Ten most awkward Period Dramas | WaterAid

01:25
How did Mr Darcy react when Elizabeth Bennett asked him to buy tampons? What happened when Jo March leaked on her dress at a ball? WaterAid’s Ten most awkward #PeriodDrama moments imagines how literary heroines dealt with their own period dramas. Since the dawn of time, women have had periods – yet most of us still consider it an embarrassing and taboo subject. WaterAid launched its #PeriodDrama campaign to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May and help remove the silence and stigma that surround periods. Whilst our film is light-hearted, it aims to highlight the fact that more than one billion women across the world don’t have access to a toilet during their period. When there are no safe, private toilets in schools, girls often skip school during their period, or drop out of school altogether once they reach puberty. With nowhere hygienic to clean sanitary pads or wash, women and girls also risk infection. Being able to deal with periods in a hygienic and dignified way is crucial to women’s wellbeing. Find out how you can help ensure every women and girl has access to water, safe toilets and somewhere to wash by 2030 at https://www.wateraid.org Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=WaterAid Visit our website: http://www.wateraid.org/uk Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wateraid Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wateraid

Brides of the Well by Shekhar Kapur | WaterAid

02:54
Shekhar Kapur has collaborated with us to create a short animation, Brides of the Well, adapted from a story he wrote to highlight water scarcity issues and how this impacts women and girls globally. Find out more: https://watera.id/2QDIlNg Narrated by Bend it like Beckham and ER star, Parminder Nagra, the film tells the story of Saraswati and Paras; two teenagers living in Punjab, northern India. Globally, one in nine people lack access to clean water. India has a staggering 163 million people – and roughly 81 million women - living without clean water close to home, making it the country with the highest population without this basic resource. This global crisis affects women and girls disproportionately throughout their lives as they bear the burden of walking long distances to collect water, often forcing them to drop out of school from an early age, missing out on their education and – in some cases – making them vulnerable to child marriage. What if talking about periods was normal? | WaterAid

01:36
What if there was #NoShame in menstruation and talking about periods was normal? WaterAid decided to find out! See how people reacted in this hilarious undercover film. WaterAid launched the #NoShame campaign for Menstrual Hygiene Day. Sign the petition for all schools to have clean water and decent toilets here: http://watera.id/MH_day By being more open about periods, we can help challenge taboos that are holding back women and girls across the world, and highlight the need for every girl to have access to a decent toilet, especially at school. Please support the campaign here: http://watera.id/MH_day A new survey found that two-thirds of British women feel uncomfortable openly carrying their sanitary products to the toilet in public, and around half wouldn’t feel confident to tell their dad or a male boss about period pain or PMT. Nearly a third (29%) of women have felt embarrassed buying period products. Men are maybe not as embarrassed about periods as one may imagine as 68% would feel comfortable buying sanitary products, though only 45% would feel ok asking a shop assistant questions about them. However, 64% of men would leave a sanitary product on the ground if they saw a woman drop it; only 36% of men would pick it up and run after her. If you think there should be #NoShame in menstruation, take action today and sign WaterAid's petition, calling for all schools to have toilet facilities whilst on their period, to ensure girls everywhere can get a good education: http://watera.id/MH_day Subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=WaterAid Visit our website: http://www.wateraid.org/uk Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wateraid Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WaterAidUK

What is Ellie Simmonds made of? | WaterAid

01:51
We're all made of the same stuff - water. Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds, OBE, is showing what she’s made of to support our ‘Made Of The Same Stuff’ campaign, which aims to help end the global water crisis. http://www.wateraid.org/uk/ellie   Ellie, a WaterAid Ambassador, has visited Uganda to see first-hand what life is like without access to clean water and good sanitation. She said:   “We’re all made of about 60% water; it is a bond we share across the world that is stronger than the kilometres and continents that separate us. Just to survive, we need around 2.4 litres of water every day. However, 663 million people around the world still lack access to this basic human need. “I’ve met families living without safe water, and have seen first-hand the impact it has on their health and education. Having access to clean water and toilets can really transform lives, providing the first step out of poverty. Ending the water and sanitation crisis by 2030 might sound impossible, but together we’re made of the stuff that makes history.”   Through the Made of the Same Stuff appeal, the public can help improve access to clean water and safe sanitation in some of the world’s poorest countries. Trailer - WaterAid Across the tracks: Steps towards Clean India

01:28
You can watch the full film here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qozuTs5bDDE Multimedia: http://www.cleanindia.wateraid.org As the Clean India campaign gets underway, with its ambitious target of a toilet for every household by 2019, WaterAid explores how something as simple as a toilet can help transform lives by following the story of one ambitious mother in Uttar Pradesh. Radha Verma, determined to protect her daughter after she narrowly escapes a physical attack, builds one of the first toilets in Rakhi Mandi slum, home to 3,500 people. Radha’s story shows that change is possible, even in a challenging urban environment, and that ultimately everyone, everywhere needs a safe place to go to the toilet. If men had periods - football

00:51
#IfMenHadPeriods the world would probably be a very different place... If men had periods they would be considered a sign of virility, men would brag about them on Facebook, #imonmyperiod would trend regularly on twitter, and football commentaries might sound a bit like this! Our #IfMenHadPeriods campaign aims to highlight that 1.25 billion women around the world do not have access to a toilet during their periods. Please sign our ‘Make it Happen’ petition to help get women the dignity they deserve: UK: http://www.wateraid.org/uk/makeithappen US: http://www.wateraid.org/us/get-involved/campaign-and-advocate

UK Scouts visit WaterAid in Madagascar with a Million Hands | WaterAid

03:15
Three British Scouts visited Madagascar to link up with Malagasy Scouts who are working with WaterAid to help improve access to clean water and toilets across the country. Scouts Jack Abrey, 19, Hannah Kentish, 23, and Rebecca Alexander, 23, took the trip in conjunction with the ‘A Million Hands’ campaign; a youth-led project that helps enable Scouts to take action in their communities on issues that they feel strongly about. The British trio will now share their eye-opening experiences with 65,000 Scouts from across the UK, who have committed to ensuring everyone everywhere has access to clean water and sanitation as part of A Million Hands.
