His Majesty is extremely concerned and interested in the conservation and management of the Kingdoms water resources. This has been demonstrated on multiple occasions as His Majesty has visited the various regions of Thailand. In each region, with their varying terrain, he has observed the land, the water resources and the interactions of the people living there and the fundamental resources. He then advises the authorities concerned of the best methods of managing the areas resources as well as advising the local residents how best to integrate their basic life style into the available environment. As a result of His Majestys concern for the wellbeing of his people there is now a profusion of dams, levees, dykes, the tributaries of life for the Thai people. Some of the dams have been named after His Majestys titles such as Bhumibol Dam. Some are names bestowed upon them by His Majesty, such as Ratchaprapa meaning the Brilliance of the Reign. The Khun Dan Prakarnchol Dam memorializing the heroes of Thailand past. Some of the dams come from His Majestys own support projects. Two of them being the Mae Ngud Sombunchol Dam and the Pa-sak Cholsit Dam. Among the many benefits derived from these royal water management projects, apart from the hydroelectric power production, are providing reservoirs above the dams that allow the availability of adequate water for agricultural purposes during the dry portion of the year. During the rainy season they act as repositories for excess water that could cause flooding. The large bodies of water also sustain the local fishery industry. As an added bonus these areas have become very popular with both and foreign and local tourists which has resulted in an economic stimulus for these regions. The Thai people have been blessed by these many benefits because of His Majestys foresight in developing these water management and conservation support projects.

There are two river basins in Uzbekistan that form the Aral Sea basin. In addition to this, there are 94 major aquifers, and sporadic rainfall that is unevenly distributed, occurring mainly in the mountainous regions during the winter months. The water resources that are available are in short supply in much of Uzbekistan.n 1994, the agricultural sector contributed some 36 percent to GDP. In 1996, it employed about 33 percent of the total economically active population. The contribution of crop production to GDP was about 20 percent from irrigated crops and 2 percent from rain-fed crops. Cotton, called 'white gold' in Uzbekistan, vegetables and fruits are the country's principal exports. Uzbekistan is one of the world's largest cotton exporters. Irrigation in Uzbekistan started more than 2,500 years ago in the seven natural oases. At the beginning of the 20th century, about 1.2 million hectares were irrigated in Uzbekistan. Large-scale development started in the late 1950s, when the Soviet Union decided that Uzbekistan should specialize in the production of cotton. Modern irrigation techniques were then developed in the Hunger steppe in the central part of the country. By 1994, irrigation covered almost 4.3 million hectares, or about 82 percent of cultivated land.

In East and Sub Saharan Africa, availability of water is the single most critical factor for the survival of people. Wetlands in these regions are increasingly the scene of complex conflicts about water allocation between different user groups. Wetlands International is supporting local partner organisations in a project to address the increasing pressure on wetlands and water resources in this area. The main objectives of this project are to develop a management system that balances the wetland and water use between different land use types, areas and groups.

www.Phoenixmotorcars.com http://altairnano.com/markets_energy_systems.html Phoenix Motorcars with the use of Altairnano's battery technology have developed an electric vehicle that can reach highway speeds and can travel 130 miles on one charge. What is so revolutionary about this electric vehicle, besides that it is a sport utility truck(SUT) and not a subcompact car, is that the lithium titanate battery technology allows for a 10-minute recharge (tested in front of California's Air Resources Board) and if that wasn't enough theres an estimated life span of 20+ years! This battery technology also does not experience thermal runaways like lithium ion. These three feartures dwarf the fact that the energy density of this battery is less than that of lithium ion batteries. Most of the infrastructure is already in place to allow construction of 10-minute charging stations along roads. But there shouldn't be a need to build as many as there are of gas stations because most charging will be done at home or possibly at work. Plugged in along with your cell phone. Phoenix is in production now! But only to fleets. Production for consumers in California is scheduled for late 2008. There will also be an SUV model available as well. Foreign oil independence! Visit http://www.youris.com/Environment for more information!Faced with the desertification that threatens Mediterranean Europe, researchers with Desertlink, a European Commission funded project, are trying to curb risk zones by studying certain exacerbating factors. Climatic upheaval and global warming will produce future droughts we need to begin preparing for now. Low precipitation, erosion, urbanization, changes in agricultural methods or intensive farming... Mediterranean countries are facing a desertification process that translates into a degradation of cultivable land, pastures and forests, as well as a noticeable loss of biodiversity. At the same time, the threat of global warming and indicators of droughts to come are making the situation even more worrying. Geographers with Desertlink, a European Commission funded project, are drawing up assessments of land degradation in southern Europe, and providing other European countries with scenarios and farming models more adapted to each situation encountered.

P-Way looks after the track upgrade and renewal works within Tube Lines. Over an 18 month period from Jan 2007 P-Way changed the way it worked to bring its Lost Time Injury rate down to zero. This short film charts how this was achieved Tube Lines are responsible for both maintenance and upgrade work on the Jubilee line, Northern line and Piccadilly line. We also provide a number of services across the network including the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), Distribution Services and Trans Plant. We also deliver a growing catalogue of safety and skills courses as well as competency management consultancy. Maintaining the system Over the first 7½ years of our agreement with London Underground, around half of Tube Lines' £4.5 billion plus investment will be used to maintain the system. This is a massive task, as Tube Lines inherited some of the oldest infrastructure on the network. A history of under investment and inconsistent maintenance regimes has further impacted on system reliability. There is a great deal of work required to ensure that the Tube is fully operational every morning and we have to have a highly responsive maintenance capability to deal with unplanned work. Each and every night of the year, thousands of Tube Lines employees and contractors are out on the railway, ensuring that it is fit and ready for service each morning. This army of night workers operates mainly between the hours of midnight until four in the morning. Maintaining the system is a hugely challenging job and requires an attention to detail to make sure that the right people and right equipment are in the right places each night. Tube Lines has introduced new technology to help understand the bigger picture of where maintenance is most required to enable the company to focus resources in the right place.

In a press conference in 2008, Levees.Org released records obtained under the Freedom of Information Act obtained Dec 28, 2007. Just weeks after levees failed in New Orleans, the people responsible for the levees, the US Army Corps of Engineers paid an engineering group $2 million in taxpayer money to peer review the official levee failure study, and then conduct an apparent PR campaign to protect the Corps' reputation. Levees.Org showed how power point presentations by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and paid for by the Crops, understated and downplayed the responsibility of the Corps of Engineers in the flooding. The narrator also overstated the role of the local levee authorities, the vulnerability of the city and the strength of the storm.

New Haven Urban Resources Inc. (URI) is a small non-profit run by three part-time employees. Though a partnership with Yale University School of Forestry and with the help of many hundred volunteers around New Haven, URI is able to make a big impact on the community. Their mission is to promote community-based land stewardship, promote environmental education, and advance the practice of urban forestry, as well as provide Yale students with clinical learning opportunities. URI works in three areas: community forestry, environmental education and training and capacity building. URI began in Baltimore Maryland in 1989 when the Baltimore Director of Parks and Recreation invited Yale Forestry professor William Burch and students to help educated teenagers around the area to develop neighborhood forestry groups. Social forestry was originally intended to help cultivate and restore rural areas of developing countries although the idea of working together as one to restore the beauty of nature within our community is what neighbors from all over are trying to achieve. The program was a great success and it was adopted in New Haven through Community Greenspace programs The Community Greenspace program is about engaging citizens to do their part in taking care of their environment in a way that serves the citizens needs. Community Greenspaces purpose is to be responsive to community concerns such as invasive public lands and coming together to take part of anything they want to in their community that they wish to recover. During the first two years of its program, URIs Community Greenspace brought in over 45 neighborhood projects. Today they completed more than 221 diverse urban restoration projects, planted over 1000 trees and had over 500 annual participation of New Haven residents. Nan Bartow, URI board member and a leader of friends of Beaver Pond Park said, One of the things we are trying to do is to remove all the invasive vegetation that doesnt belong in the native area (of Beavers Pond Park) and were replanting with native vegetation that belongs here in a setting such as this, we work with URI, United Way, The New Haven Parks Dept, Athletic Department, Southern Connecticut State University and King Robinsons Middle School. Greenspace sites are based on the communitys initiative. Community residents are the ones who come together to make changes in their environment. They decide what they want to fix or recover and URIs Community Greenspace is there to help them every step of the way. Community Greenspace impacts the community greatly because it involves neighbors, friends and family coming together for the greater good. It benefits the physical landscape such as improving soil, planting trees, clearing evasive materials and creating habitat for wildlife. According to executive director, Colleen Murphy-Dunning, Its a program that helps people to know each others neighbors, to grow as individuals, to grow as leaders of our community, to find ways to invest in themselves in making a difference in their neighborhoods, so its a way that bridges young and old, and bridges across races and bridges across economic class for the community to come together for the shared vision of how to recover their environment. LJ Create has produced an exciting resource designed to offer practical investigation into the world of construction technology. Used to enhance the delivery of the new Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, this resource will enable students to understand the principles behind today's modern buildings. The ST120 resource includes: * Practical investigation * Design projects * Problem solving * Research activities * Over 40 hours of lesson material * Skyscraper and earthquake simulator * Bridge design and building kit * Thermal chamber test kit * Materials testing kit * Floorplan CAD software * Construction technology software * Accessory kits * Consumables Materials and Structures All structures are subject to loads, even if it is just supporting their own weight under gravity. In one of the tasks of Materials and Structures, students look at how a bending force affects different beam structures, and how the bending can be reduced by arranging the same amount of material in different ways. The student makes three beams with different configurations. They then load each beam in the tester and measure the amount of deflection on the beam under varying load conditions. They test each beam to destruction, making note of the deflection under the increasing loads - quickly discovering how the shape of the various beams affects their load bearing capability. ST120A contains: * Over 16 hours of paper based lesson materials * Materials testing equipment * Structures building materials * Materials and structures accessory kit Architectural drawings With the advent of inexpensive, reliable computers, computer aided drafting has largely replaced handdrawn technical drawings. This CAD revolution has been embraced by the construction industry, enabling architects and designers to create elaborate structures more quickly and easily than ever before. Students use a simple architectural 3D CAD package to explore the applications of CAD in construction. ST120B contains: * Over 6 hours of paper based lesson materials * Floorplan CAD software Superstructures Construction technology has enabled housing and skyscraper structures to be much more resistant to the hazards of earthquakes. In this module students use an earthquake simulator to look at the effects of earthquakes on tall buildings. Students examine the intensity and frequency of earth tremors and their effects on differing types of building. To discover how tall buildings and skyscrapers react, they place three different height skyscraper models on the earthquake simulator and observe how they resonate at different frequencies. They also experiment with a model tower block and look at the effect a simulated earthquake has on it. ST120C contains: * Over 6 hours of paper based lesson materials * Skyscraper modelling kit * Earthquake simulator Services Students use a model house to test the insulation properties of double glazing. Double glazing is not the latest technology, but new types of glass and gases to fill the cavity make modern double glazing a hitech industry. They also investigate how to manage a construction project and how computers are used in the construction industry. ST120D contains: * Over 10 hours of paper based lesson materials * Thermal chamber * Accessory kit See http://www.ljcreate.com for more information

In 2007 the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) http://www.DBSAlliance.org unveiled phase one of an innovative two-part national campaign, "Facing Us:" http://www.FacingUs.org an initiative focused on eliminating stigma surrounding mental illness—by showing the world the real face of depression and bipolar disorder as the treatable, medical illnesses they are—and providing tools and resources for those diagnosed to create a better future. Phase one of the campaign launched a video and art contest for individuals living with the illness and a PSA contest for film students or production studios. The contests solicit personal video stories, artwork and public service announcements (PSAs). As DBSA President Sue Bergeson said, "According to researchers, the only thing that seems to put a dent in the stigma attached to mental illness is not education ... not shame and blame ... but instead, putting a real face on the illness."

OK, Cyprus doesnot have real lakes, (except for the very important for the bird populations salt lakes and few remaining swamps). On the other hand, it has about 20 (bigger) dams, which even though have been constructed for irrigation purposes, also offer setting that can be explored. There are hiking possibilities around a few and fishing possibilities in most (also bird watching). Sadly, 2008 is a very bad year as far as water quantities on the island are concerned, and many of the dams are drying up. Nevertheless, better management of the water resources on the island can convert many of the dams into tourist attractions for angling, birdwatching, and ecotourism (eg. kayaking) for the benefit of nature, local communities and visitors.

The unfortunate thing is that in this country there are very few treatment resources for behavioral addiction. There are some, but there are not a lot. If you had a chemical addiction you'd find a treatment resource, probably, on every corner. However, for behavior addictions, they're quite difficult to find. If you're going to go about finding a recovery program and a more cognitive behavioral one, probably the easiest one to identify is a private clinician, private psychologist, social worker, or mental health professional in your community. The best place to find that is in your phone book or information. You call up and you ask your local psychological association as well as call up the National Organization of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists or go online and look for a professional within your community. Beyond doing private one on one or private group, there are a few inpatient facilities (not a lot) around the country. There are some outpatient facilities; that means that you don't go in, you don't check yourself in, and you don't sleep there. There are support groups, although not a lot. There's smart recovery, where the individual wants an abstinence goal. There's moderation management, which is for harm reduction goal, but there are not a lot of support groups on that level. However, there are Internet chat rooms and there are Internet resources that aren't exactly formalized support groups but you can get some accurate and solid information on approaching it from a cognitive behavioral standpoint.
