In theory, all human beings have a certain set of inalienable rights simply by virtue of being self-aware, of having the ability to consider abstract concepts. Nowadays an increasing number of scientists, legislators and global institutions are asking whether higher-order animals qualify for the same legal protections. Animal testing is making use of animals in experiments carried out for the betterment of human lives. There are many arguments regarding the pros and cons of animal testing. It helps save human lives, but in turn, thousands of animals are injured or killed. There are many animal rights groups that claim killing animals is inhumane. This debate won't end till scientists find a better alternative for animal testing. This video discusses the advantages and disadvantages of animal testing. You are free to decide whether you are for, against or neutral towards it. For more information, visit http://www.buzzle.com/articles/animal-testing-pros-and-cons.html

Most current animal advocacy focuses on adults. By raising awareness and deploying rational and emotional appeals, animal advocates go to great lengths to change attitudes and behaviors in grown-ups. Our attitudes and behaviors, however, don`t just fall out of the sky. What we think about animals and how we treat them (and why we think we are justified in doing so) is mostly the result of a long process of learning and habituation, which starts early on in life. Yet, comparatively little activist effort goes into reaching out to children and adolescents during this formative period. This lamentable situation isn`t helped by the fact that the educational system (from kindergarten to school to university) is lagging far behind the social consensus regarding the moral and legal status of animals. At least in progressive countries, animals are now officially considered sentient individuals who deserve moral and legal protection in their own right. Still, this crucial insight is largely ignored in curricula or textbooks. And again, little activist effort aims at transforming what educational institutions teach young people about animals. As a consequence, given an environment in which harming, killing and instrumentalizing animals is ubiquitous and widely considered normal, natural and necessary, socialization can run its course largely unchallenged. This raises important questions for animal advocacy: Why not also address the effect rather than only the cause? Why allow for socialization to be almost completed before putting animals on the agenda? Why try only to undo what has gone wrong rather than making sure that things don`t go wrong in the first place? This presentation seeks to highlight the importance of placing greater emphasis on outreach to young people in animal advocacy. To this end, it provides a rough sketch of the current situation; spells out the central arguments for educating children about animal protection; addresses some of the challenges facing this approach; and presents the concept of an educational network as a first step toward acknowledging this largely neglected aspect of animal rights activism. ---- Who is Jens Tuider? Jens Tuider is pursuing a PhD in philosophy at the University of Mannheim, Germany, with a focus on animal ethics. He has published academic articles on animal ethics and animal rights and has given presentations and workshops at a number of international events. Having started out as a theorist, he has become increasingly interested in questions of activism and strategy directed at bringing about real-life change for animals. The Answers In Genesis website published an article written by Ken Ham and Avery Foley on June 7, 2016. I now quote their article below: “It’s not uncommon to see animals exalted and valued far above humans. Animal rights groups, such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), vehemently fight against the use of animals for anything, saying things such as, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”1 and “When it comes to pain, love, joy, loneliness, and fear, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. Each one values his or her life and fights the knife.”2 What should a Christian’s response be to these arguments? “Now all of creation groans, waiting for the coming day when Jesus will liberate it from the Curse (Romans 8:20–22; Revelation 22:3). Creation was never designed to live in disharmony. We, and the animals, were originally created to be vegetarian (Genesis 1:29–30) and to live forever without any suffering or disease. But because sin changed all of that, we battle its effects every day. “But this doesn’t mean that humans are a blight or disease. Despite our sin, we are the only ones created in the very image of God, utterly unique from the rest of creation. We were granted dominion over the earth and it’s inhabitants (Genesis 1:26). This was part of our “very good” (Genesis 1:31), pre-Fall purpose and mission, and it stems out of our position as image bearers of the Creator. “How Should We View “Dominion”? “But does having dominion mean that we can treat animals any way that we want to? No! Such a view stems from a misguided view of our dominion over creation. It exalts humans while devaluing the rest of God’s creation. “DOES HAVING DOMINION MEAN THAT WE CAN TREAT ANIMALS ANY WAY THAT WE WANT TO? NO! “You see, God takes great joy in His creation. Six different times before He created mankind, God looked at what He had made and called it “good” (Genesis 1:4, 10, 12,18, 21, 25). Scripture is full of celebrations of creation’s beauty and God’s care for what He has made (Matthew 6:30, 10:29). “And in Proverbs 12:10 we read, “A righteous man regards the life of his animal.” The testimony of Scripture as a whole paints the picture of a Creator who loves and cares for all that He has made. As those made in His image, we should love and care for what He has made too. “So the response here is not to point out that all of what animal activists are saying is wrong. We need to be discerning based on God’s Word. The problem is that the activists have gone too far, to a point where they are essentially worshipping animals. “A Balanced Position “In our world of harsh, contrasting sides, it’s often difficult to find a balance. There’s a temptation to fall into either ditch: exalting animals above humans or devaluing God’s other creations. “As Christians, we need to find a proper balance based on Scripture. Humans alone are made in the image of God: we’re unique and therefore have a unique place in God’s creation. Jesus Himself became a man and died on the Cross to save mankind, not the animals. “This doesn’t mean we can treat the rest of God’s creation cruelly or abusively. We need to reflect the heart of the One whose image we are made in, and treat His creation with kindness, directing glory to our Creator and Savior.” Thank God for the contributions of Ken Ham and Avery Foley.

But how much of that land do you actually own? Do you own the sky above it? How about the land below it? What about all the animals that may live there; do you own those too? It has been a long time coming, and those in the LGBT community now have the right to walk down the aisle with the one they love. The ruling was celebrated nationwide, and many celebrities spoke out and gave their support to those in the LGBT community. Miley Cyrus was one of these very vocal supporters. She even has an equal sign tattooed on her ring finger in support of same-sex marriage. But despite the many celebs who celebrated the ruling, there are a few who won’t be waving around a LGBT flag any time soon. Many of these celebrities’ opinions on gay rights stem from their deep religious viewpoints, while others come across as just being homophobic. Actor Kirk Cameron is one Hollywood celeb who basis his opinion on gay rights on the teachings of the bible. The born-again Christian has gone on the record to condemn gays, and he even thinks homosexuality is detrimental and destructive to civilization as we know it. Despite receiving backlash from LGBT advocate groups, Kirk stands by his opinion, and we doubt he will be changing his mind anytime soon. Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao is another devout Christian who stands behind his religion and his thoughts on homosexuality. Manny didn’t care about being PC when he said homosexuals were “worse than animals.” Even after receiving backlash for his statements, Manny stood firm on his opinion. He apologized for his comments, but he still feels that homosexuality and same-sex marriage is something that is “against the law of God.” Other celebrities can’t hide behind their religion when it comes to their disapproval of gays. Singer Chris Brown, for example, seems to have a negative opinion on homosexuals that is deeply rooted in homophobia. The singer has used gay slurs on social media more times than we can count, and he was also accused of telling a male fan “I’’m not into this gay s—t,” before punching him in the face. Despite this list of celebrities who don’t support gay rights, there are millions of other people in the world who are all for equal rights of everyone regardless of their sexual preference. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/

Rights For Animals,https://goo.gl/r1938O nimal Rights Animal rights is the idea that some, or all, non-human animals are entitled to the possession of their own lives and that their most basic interests—such as the need to avoid suffering—should be afforded the same consideration as similar interests of human beings. Advocates oppose the assignment of moral value and fundamental protections on the basis of species membership alone—an idea known since 1970 as speciesism, when the term was coined by Richard D. Ryder—arguing that it is a prejudice as irrational as any other. They maintain that animals should no longer be viewed as property or used as food, clothing, research subjects, entertainment, or beasts of burden. Advocates approach the issue from a variety of perspectives. The abolitionist view is that animals have moral rights, which the pursuit of incremental reform may undermine by encouraging human beings to feel comfortable with using them. Gary Francione's abolitionist position promotes ethical veganism. He argues that animal rights groups that pursue welfare concerns, such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), risk making the public feel comfortable about its use of animals. He calls such groups "the new welfarists." PETA argues that Francione's criticism does little to help alleviate the suffering of individual animals and also trivializes the efforts of workers in the field who handle cruelty cases. It also creates divisiveness within the animal liberation movement instead of focusing on shared goals. Tom Regan, as a deontologist, argues that at least some animals are "subjects-of-a-life", with beliefs, desires, memories, and a sense of their own future, who must be treated as ends in themselves, not as means to an end. Sentiocentrism is the theory that sentient individuals are the subject of moral concern and therefore are deserving of rights. Protectionists seek incremental reform in how animals are treated, with a view to ending animal use entirely, or almost entirely. This position is represented by the philosopher Peter Singer. As a preference utilitarian, Singer's focus is not on moral rights, but on the argument that animals have interests—particularly an interest in not suffering—and that there is no moral or logical reason not to award those interests equal consideration. Multiple cultural traditions around the world—such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism—also espouse some forms of animal rights. In parallel to the debate about moral rights, animal law is now widely taught in law schools in North America, and several prominent legal scholars[who?] support the extension of basic legal rights and personhood to at least some animals. The animals most often considered in arguments for personhood are bonobos and chimpanzees. This is supported by some animal rights academics because it would break through the species barrier, but opposed by others because it predicates moral value on mental complexity, rather than on sentience alone. Critics of animal rights argue that animals are unable to enter into a social contract, and thus cannot be possessors of rights, a view summed up by the philosopher Roger Scruton, who writes that only humans have duties, and therefore only humans have rights. A parallel argument, known as the utilitarian position, is that animals may be used as resources so long as there is no unnecessary suffering; they may have some moral standing, but they are inferior in status to human beings, and insofar as they have interests, those interests may be overridden, though what counts as necessary suffering or a legitimate sacrifice of interests varies considerably. Certain forms of animal rights activism, such as the destruction of fur farms and animal laboratories by the Animal Liberation Front, have also attracted criticism, including from within the animal rights movementitself, as well as prompted reaction from the U.S. Congress with the enactment of the "Animal Enterprise Protection Act (amended in 2006 by the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act)". Background factors, such as gender, occupation, type and level of education, and religion, may condition one's attitudes towards the nature, moral significance, and rights of animals.[citation needed Moral status and animals in the ancient world[ https://goo.gl/r1938O

Do pets & animals have souls? In this week’s video we see what the Bible has to say about it, and after I’ll point to some helpful resources, so be sure to stick around to the end. The Bible does not give any explicit teaching on whether pets and animals have “souls” or whether pets and animals will be in heaven. However, we can use general biblical principles to develop some clarity on the subject. The Bible states that both man and animals have the “breath of life”; that is, both man and animals are living beings. The primary difference between human beings and animals is that humanity is made in the image and likeness of God, while animals are not. Being made in the image and likeness of God means that human beings are like God, capable of spirituality, with mind, emotion, and will, and they have a part of their being that continues after death. If pets and animals do have a “soul” or immaterial aspect, it must therefore be of a different and lesser “quality.” This difference possibly means that pet and animal “souls” do not continue in existence after death. Another factor to consider regarding whether pets will be in heaven is that animals are a part of God’s creative process in Genesis. God created the animals and said they were good. Therefore, there is no reason why there could not be pets and animals on the new earth. There will most definitely be animals during the millennial kingdom . It is impossible to say definitively whether some of these animals might be the pets we had while here on earth. We do know that God is just and that when we get to heaven we will find ourselves in complete agreement with His decision on this issue, whatever it may be. Hungry for more? I was learning more about that old favorite tune after hearing that the artist was arrested for assault recently. This is a recording of the talk 'Hindu Attitudes to Non-Human Animals: Precept, Practice and Politics' by Professor Anna King, Professor of Religious Studies and Social Anthropology and Head of Research in the Centre of Religion, Reconciliation and Peace at University of Winchester. It was presented on 2nd November 2016 at the University of Winchester Animal Welfare and Hunting Symposium. About the speaker Anna King is Professor of Religious Studies and Social Anthropology and Head of Research in the Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace, University of Winchester. She has conducted long periods of fieldwork in South Asia (particularly India), and is at present engaged in projects with international partners in Nepal and Myanmar. She is writing a book on Animal Theology and Ethics in South Asian Religions, and has published articles on contemporary Hindu attitudes to animals. She is the founder editor of RoSA (Religions of South Asia). About the Animal Welfare Symposium Animal welfare is an increasingly important social concern. Advances in our understanding of animal sentience, of their capacities to suffer and experience pleasure, of their communicative and social characteristics, and others that are morally relevant, have increasingly led to a re-examination of their positions within and outwith our societies - and to a reconsideration of their moral status. A wide range of voices have challenged traditional social uses of animals, and have called for stronger measures to protect their welfare. Where have religious voices been in this debate, and what have they been telling us? How and why do ethical and religious perspectives on animals differ, among differing religious traditions? Some have been criticised for providing ideological support for the exploitation of animals. Are the various religions doing enough to protect animals and their welfare? Is there more they could, and should, be doing? A diverse range of experts will present the viewpoints of various major religions concerning animals and their welfare. What Is Animal Cruelty,https://goo.gl/r1938O Cruelty to animals, also called animal abuse or animal neglect, is the human infliction of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal, for purposes other than self-defense or survival. More narrowly, it can be the causing of harm or suffering for specific gain, such as killing animals for food or for their fur; opinions differ about the extent of cruelty associated with a given method of slaughter. Cruelty to animals sometimes encompasses inflicting harm or suffering for personal amusement, as in zoosadism. Laws concerning animal cruelty are designed to prevent needless cruelty. Divergent approaches to such laws occur in different jurisdictions throughout the world. For example, some laws govern methods of killing animals for food, clothing, or other products, and other laws concern the keeping of animals for entertainment, education, research, or as pets. In broad terms, there are three conceptual approaches to the issue of cruelty to animals. The animal welfare position holds that there is nothing inherently wrong with using animals for human purposes, such as food, clothing, entertainment, and research, but that it should be done in a way that minimizes unnecessary pain and suffering, sometimes referred to as "humane" treatment. Utilitarian advocates argue from the position of costs and benefits and vary in their conclusions as to the allowable treatment of animals. Some utilitarians argue for a weaker approach which is closer to the animal welfare position, whereas others argue for a position that is similar to animal rights. Animal rights theorists criticize these positions, arguing that the words "unnecessary" and "humane" are subject to widely differing interpretations, and that animals have basic rights. They say that the only way to ensure protection for animals is to end their status as property and to ensure that they are never used as commodities. Thanks for watching this rant on such a controversial topic. I promise, Veganism IS the future... There was a time where we thought we could own people because of their race, or we could hang them because of who they loved. It took hundreds of years to reverse that thinking. (and is still in the works)....With that said, I know that the concept of NOT USING ANIMALS AS RESOURCES is really "out there" and seems so "extreme," but there will be a day where everyone says, "what the F*** were we thinking?" And it is surely coming. 'Speciesism' (the idea that being human is a good enough reason for human animals to have greater moral rights than non-human animal,) will become more clear.... We are eventually going to get tired of being sick and tired, and want to be healthy, cruelty free and compassionate. For the earth, for the animals, for us. (WATCH THE DAMN MOVIE, COWSPIRACY) http://www.cowspiracy.com/facts/ 2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef. Livestock covers 45% of the earth’s total land. top 10 of the weirdest pets in the world Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like 10 Things You Should Never Google https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ENX2w7zv4 Most Mysterious Creatures Found On The Beach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq1JxL0iswg Description: When it comes to pets, most of us will think about the typical dog, cat, bird, fish, and hamster. These pets are predictable, legal, and traditional. Unless one has over a dozen cats, these pets aren’t considered to be weird or unusual. But what about the animals that can be domesticated and become unique pets despite being a bit esoteric? Even lizards, snakes, and spiders are considered to be pretty much normal to have as a pet. Competitions amongst pet owners as to what animal is the best has resulted in a never-ending debate that has no end in sight. The industry of exotic pets has exploded in the last century, and animals that used to never be considered as a pet are now in high demand with people spending small fortunes in order to get their hands on these creatures. There has been some debate as to whether these unusual pets should even be domesticated. Animal rights activists have argued that these animals would be happier out in the wild in their natural habitat. That hasn’t stopped the market for unique and exotic animals as pets. Websites are now dedicated to the teaching and raising of these unusual pets in hopes of creating a future full of domesticated wildlife. Perhaps this is the answer to the pending extinctions of some species? No longer will people have to visit the local zoo to see these rare and exotic animals, but instead tour their own neighborhood! The animals in this video are legal to own in most of the United States. If one of these animals tickles your fancy and you want to bring one home, be sure to check your local laws to make sure you’re not unintentionally committing a crime. Regardless of your reason for owning an exotic animal, whether it be for popularity, money, or needing a different furry companion, offering an animal some sort of love and attention is always a rewarding experience. But be ready to pay a hefty price. Where the average cat or dog can cost anywhere from a few dollars to $100, these exotic and unusual pets can cost in the range of thousands of dollars. If you were a fan of the television show, “Friends”, you may remember Ross Gellar owning a pet monkey named Marcel. If you were to try to get a monkey in the real world, you would be spending around $60,000. But if you want something a little cheaper, the fennec fox costs around $1,500 and is a perfect mix between a dog and a cat. What makes the fox attractive over other breeds in the species is the fact that the fox can be domesticated and even trained to use a litter box. But if you need something a little cheaper, the hedgehog only costs around $300, and are adorable and cuddly for your cute animal needs. While these little critters need a lot of attention, especially with all of those barbs around their bodies, the hedgehog is a very unusual pet that is attractive to many animal seekers who don’t want a large animal. There are more unusual pets where this came from. Check out the rest of the video for more! Nassim Nobari, Paul Shapiro and Karen Budkie answer questions regarding Getting To Know Our Adversaries and moderated by Rachel Atcheson at the 2016 Animal Rights Conference in Los Angeles. Nassim Nobari is co-founder and program director of Millahcayotl Association and a long-time food justice and food sovereignty activist. In 2015, she launched an annual vegan food sovereignty forum, the People’s Harvest Forum, to contribute to the movement for just and sustainable food systems while working within—and normalizing—a vegan framework. She holds a Masters in Social Psychology and her areas of focus have included the social representations and cultural significance of meat and milk and the mechanisms by which dominant groups define dietary norms. Nassim is currently conducting research on the global spread of milk consumption for her first book. Paul Shapiro is the vice president of farm animal protection at The Humane Society of the United States, the founder of Compassion Over Killing, and an inductee into the Animal Rights Hall of Fame. He's been interviewed in hundreds of print and broadcast media outlets and has published dozens of articles about animal protection in publications ranging from daily newspapers to academic journals. Karen Budkie, is Co-Founder & Operations Manager of Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! (SAEN), which works exclusively on the animal experimentation issue by successfully terminating research projects, forcing the USDA to take legal action against labs, & coordinating release of animals into sanctuaries. Karen’s activism started in the 1970s by supporting leg hold trap legislation and eliminating live dissection of guinea pigs at her high school, and has been a vegan since 1986. Hi everyone! This is a response to VegSource's video titled "You're not Vegan" in which Mr. Nelson explains that the definition of veganism does not and should not include animal rights. This video is in no way an attack on VegSource and what they have done for promoting plant-based diets. This video just seeks to dismantle the logic that more vegan diets necessarily correlate with animal liberation, and that plant-based diets should be the end goal of veganism. This is a recording of the talk 'Becoming CreatureKind: a new Christian framework for farmed-animal welfare' by Professor David Clough, Professor of Theological Ethics at University of Chester and Founder of CreatureKind. It was presented on 2nd November 2016 at the University of Winchester Animal Welfare and Hunting Symposium. About the speaker: David is Professor of Theological Ethics at the University of Chester and founder of CreatureKind, a project engaging churches in the UK and North America with the welfare of farmed animals. He is the author of the ground-breaking two-volume monograph On Animals, which explores the place of animals in Christian theology and ethics. He is President of the Society for the Study of Christian Ethics and Co-chair of the Animals and Religion Group of the American Academy of Religion. At the Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest in Coney Island on Monday, animal rights activists stormed the stage. The protesters sprayed fake blood on the competitors and knocked over trays of hot dogs. The NYPD quickly grabbed and removed the protesters from the stage. A contestant claimed the activists were a part of PETA; however PETA has denied any involvement. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thedailybeast/articles/~3/YaYzfrtiLMQ/watch-protesters-dump-fake-blood-on-hot-dog-eating-contestants.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com

GoPro Best of Animals (2014) and ‘Anthem For Animals’ performed by Gaia's Eye featuring Azucena Azul from the Songs For Freedom CD! A CD featuring unparalleled performances all relating to animal welfare and that are against animal cruelty have been assembled which span generations of legendary music artists, coupled with being aligned with up and coming new artists, is set to be released this week on June 7th. What makes this 20 song CD special is that it is dedicated to Animal Welfare and all proceeds from sales of this CD will directly help change laws relating to animal cruelty in the United States where wildlife and animals are in desperate need of help. All revenues from all sales of this full length album that also features two bonus tracks will go directly to the ALDF. No expenses relating to the manufacturing, distribution, marketing, promotion, press and media work will need to be recouped as all expenses will be donated as well by the label. “The album and its participants are focused on the animal cruelty issues we face in America and the goal is to deal with it from the root which is by law" says the label head, Don Lichterman. "I honestly wish I could do more to help animals in distress that are used for human entertainment and that are abused, and that is why I decided to use my resources and my basis that I have set up in place at my company and notably, in my music group.” The only ulterior motive is to help promote some up and coming artists from around the world like Vicky Kiely whom is a Cove Monitor for Ric O’ Barry’s The Dolphin Project along with some other great talent like Shanel, Gaia's Eye that also has an amazing new song specifically made for this album featuring Azucena Azul and Simon Dabbicco.” The 20 song CD also features songs by some current Sunset Recording artists like Richtaste, Han Drabur, Respect, Joe Atman with the Riohc Choir, Federal Moguls (DJ Q Ball’s (Bloodhound Gang) side project) and Mister Sir while it licensed in tracks by established and legendary acts that are notably against animal cruelty by artists such as The Smiths, Vegan Boss, Gina Thompson and Bob Marley. The album is rounded off by some remixes by the likes of Boy George, Amos, Gavin Friday and DJ X vs. Sonic Solution which contributes a remix of the classic Supertramp hit song ‘The Logical Song [DJ Self Remix]’. The label head who is a passionate supporter for animal welfare fights for it every day by writing articles and weekly reports at his Google+ and at Blogger that boasts to having millions of reads and views since last January. (Don) Lichterman is known to be very much against the Dolphin Hunting season which is allowed for a half year off the coast of Taji, Japan, and has fought to stop the use of all animals and all wildlife for the purpose of human entertainment. “I make no bones about saying how us humans have shifted from enslaving other humans like we did for centuries all over the world, to enslaving animals and wildlife, says (Don) Lichterman. “Think about it please because we take these beings from their own natural environment. We have the audacity to sell them off before bringing them over to America and to places all over the world now, and we put them to work for free while we feed them and while we allow them to live in a small area on the property they get housed.” “Even though that is abuse in itself, in many cases if not all cases, they get neglected and even abused while these private companies and public entities make bank money from it.” All revenues from every CD/Digital Download and stream that is created will be paid out directly to the ALDF. “The reason that I approached the head of the ALDF about it is because I wanted to change things by law,” (Don) Lichterman says about this very special project. Activists for animal welfare, people against animal cruelty and fans of any of these bands are able to buy this CD at all major retail outlets in the world. Anyone that wishes to get involved with making changes with laws on behalf of animal rights should go directly to the ALDF (http://aldf.org/) to follow the progress of all campaigns that are being worked by them, to check out the successes the lawyers at the organization are making every day and if anyone wants to contribute to help carry out passing these laws on behalf of animals and wildlife. A line is often drawn between those who support animal welfare and those who support wildlife conservation. Scientist and wildlife expert Shane Mahoney discusses this separation. #conservationmatters Learn more at http://conservationvisions.com Shane Mahoney is widely recognized as a wildlife biologist, conservationist, and thought leader. A former employee of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, he served as Chief of Wildlife Research for the province from 1994-2003, when he accepted the position of Executive Director of Sustainable Development and Strategic Science. In 2001, he founded and subsequently led the Institute for Biodiversity, Ecosystem Science and Sustainability, an organization that continues to fund graduate student research at universities throughout North America and Europe. Today, Shane is the founder and CEO of Conservation Visions Inc., a private company and global wildlife initiative that has recently announced the launch of the Wild Harvest Initiative, a multi-year project that will measure and analyze the biomass of wild animal protein harvested each year by citizens of the U.S. and Canada, assessing both its nutritional and economic value, as well as the ecological and financial costs of replacing this food through standard agricultural and domestic livestock production. Shane also serves as: Vice-Chair of the United Nations’ International Council for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group (SULi) and Chair of SULi North America North American Expert to the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) International Liaison for The Wildlife Society Board Member of Conservation Force International Featured Partner with Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever Director of the High Lonesome Institute Conservation Director at Large for Dallas Safari Club Member of the Sustainable Use Committee for the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) Shane continues to be a tireless worker on behalf of wildlife and biodiversity, a vocal proponent of sustainable use as a conservation practice, and a strong believer in the benefits of communicating both conservation science and hunting to the general public. He has written more than 100 popular articles that have been featured in twenty-four print magazines, as well as digitally, and his work appears regularly in such well-read publications as Sports Afield. He has appeared as host or narrator for a variety of radio and television efforts, and has collaborated with such highly regarded entities as the British Broadcasting Corporation and National Geographic to produce award-winning films. His scientific research has appeared in more than 20 peer-reviewed, academic publications, and he has offered keynote speeches, led numerous workshops, participated in endowed lectures, and presented at a host of conferences around the globe. In the fall of 2015, Shane completed work as Special Guest-Editor on his second Monograph for the International Journal of Environmental Studies (IJES); his first Monograph, Conservation and Hunting in North America, was published in 2013. Together, these Monographs represent a unique effort to portray the rich history of hunting in North America by delivering peer-reviewed, scientifically based, and historically supported evidence of hunting’s proven success as a conservation tool, thus representing a positive step forward for both the conservation and hunting communities. Also in 2015, Shane became quite engaged in the discussions sparked by the Cecil the Lion incident and, in response, produced and released a film vignette reviewing the issue and providing commentary about the realities of ecosystem and wildlife management, as well as the relationship between hunting and conservation. This short film, the first in a series that will be expanded upon in 2016, was designed to engender further meaningful dialogue amongst the hunting community and the general public. Shane is currently in the process of co-editing a multi-author volume that will become the first textbook to examine the North American Wildlife Conservation Model, another notable achievement that will be realized in 2016.

The Addison C. Harris Lecture with Douglas Kysar In October, 2011, Terry Thompson committed suicide by gunshot after cutting open the cages of fifty-six exotic animals on his farm in Zanesville, Ohio. Fearing for public safety, law enforcement officers systematically hunted down the escaped animals in an episode that garnered international attention and prompted renewed discussion of the propriety of exotic animal ownership. Through an examination of the events leading to Thompson’s suicide and release of his animals, this article discusses theoretical underpinnings of property rights, stewardship of animal life, and social organization in regulated societies. After a brief introduction to the law and policy of owning exotic animals, the subsequent text considers thematic and ideological structures that underlie the tension between Terry Thompson and the government, his community, and his closest friends and subjects. Though he had acquired his menagerie through legal means, Thompson resented oversight of government authorities, and that resentment played a nontrivial role in causing the Zanesville animal massacre. The article concludes with discussion of the need – contra Terry Thompson – to surrender control in ownership relations, community life, and ultimately the modern technocratic state. Douglas Kysar is the Joseph M. Field ’55 Professor of Law at Yale Law School. His teaching and research areas include torts, environmental law, and risk regulation. He received his B.A. summa cum laude from Indiana University in 1995 and his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1998, where he served on the student board of advisors. He has published articles on a wide array of environmental law and tort law topics, and is co-author of a leading casebook, The Torts Process, with James A. Henderson, Jr., Richard N. Pearson & John A. Siliciano. His recent book, Regulating from Nowhere: Environmental Law and the Search for Objectivity (YUP 2010), seeks to reinvigorate environmental law and policy by offering novel theoretical insights on cost-benefit analysis, the precautionary principle, and sustainable development.

Many people think it is expensive to be vegan and that you have to go out of your way to eat vegan food. The truth is most vegan food is cheap and readily available everywhere (fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, root vegetables). Veganism is cheaper AND is the ethical thing to do, so how can this be still an excuse for not being vegan? ⬇ If you want to support my vegan activism ⬇ https://www.patreon.com/veganspeak SOCIAL MEDIA ★ Instagram ➞ @veganspeak ★ Facebook ➞ Vegan Speak ★ Twitter ➞ @VeganSpeak ★ Skype (FREE 1 on 1 vegan support) ➞ veganspeak ★ Tumblr (ask questions) ➞ http://veganspeak.tumblr.com EDUCATE YOURSELF ON VEGANISM ★ Best Speech You Will Ever Hear ➞ https://youtu.be/es6U00LMmC4 ★ Cowspiracy ➞ https://youtu.be/nV04zyfLyN4 ★ Forks Over Knives ➞ https://youtu.be/O7ijukNzlUg ★ NutritionFacts.Org ➞ https://goo.gl/BdNbiU ★ Veganuary ➞ http://www.veganuary.com/ CREDITS Some footage was taken from Erin Janus' awesome video on dairy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcN7SGGoCNI And from Gary Yourofsky's slaughterhouse video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK_KEQb_YVA RESEARCH REFERENCED Nutrient Profiles of Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian Dietary Patterns: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4081456/ GRAPHICS Intro and outro - vivaLucci (https://goo.gl/wQI3UY) MUSIC Hybrid Life https://goo.gl/rdqNWP

February 2017: preeminent primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall has released a filmed statement of herself, calling for primate experimenter Prof. Roger Lemon to agree to a scientific debate hearing with Dr Ray Greek, interviewed here by Talk Radio Europe. To watch Dr. Goodall's filmed statement please visit this link https://twitter.com/JaneGoodallInst/status/827633963573379072 Dr Goodall's science hearing is now being called for by 139 MPs, who have signed five Early Day Motions to this effect. During the Talk Radio interview, Dr Greek counters claims made by Prof. Lemon and enables us to learn about the wonders of where science is today, in comparison with the 19th century, where Prof. Roger Lemon still dwells. Animal modellers are actually now proven to be ignoring up-to-date scientific understanding, because they have a massive vested interest in continuing to claim their particular animal experiment has 'predictive value for human patients'. This, in stark contrast with current science, which now understands exactly how and why animals never have actually held 'predictive value for humans' [1-5] The current Parliamentary EDM 66 calls for a public scientific debate hearing on this subject, the conditions of which are endorsed as "well set out and fair" by Britain's foremost human rights defence barrister, Michael Mansfield QC. Medical opposition to animal models is now being reported by an increasing expertise in the peer reviewed scientific literature, including Dr Fiona Godlee, Editor in Chief of the British Medical Journal (BMJ). Dr Godlee published her Editor's Choice in 2014, titled 'How Predictive and Productive is Animal Research?' which concluded by quoting from the paper it cited: ‘If research conducted on animals continues to be unable to reasonably predict what can be expected in humans, the public’s continuing endorsement and funding of preclinical animal research seems misplaced’. Pharmaceutical companies acknowledge the failure of animal models in their drug development process and write about this openly and often; please visit this link for extensive quotes http://www.forlifeonearth.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Pharmaceutical-Company-Quotes2.pdf Talk Radio's interview presents an historic moment with a great master doctor who has - together with the acclaimed Niall Shanks PhD - delivered Trans Species Modelling Theory (TSMT). TSMT is akin to the Theory of Evolution and the Germ Theory of Disease, in that it provides a water tight explanation of exactly how and why animal models - of human disease and drug response - never have worked, and never will work. Indeed this out-dated science is now proven to delay the arrival of effective treatments and cures. David Hume is one of Scotland’s greatest philosophers (Adam Smith is another, about whom we also have a film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejJRhn53X2M). His claim to greatness lies in his appreciation of ordinary experience, his descriptions of consciousness and his humane, tolerant approach to religious disputes. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/qjLLWt FURTHER READING “The 18th-century writer David Hume is one of the world’s great philosophical voices because he hit upon a key fact about human nature: that we are more influenced by our feelings than by reason. This is, at one level, possibly a great insult to our self-image, but Hume thought that if we could learn to deal well with this surprising fact, we could be (both individually and collectively) a great deal calmer and happier than if we denied it...” You can read more on this and other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org at this link: https://goo.gl/SuwPBi MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/QcBQYY Watch more films on PHILOSOPHY + CURRICULUM in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLphilosophy Do you speak a different language to English?
