58 - Export Settings & Exporting in Ableton Live 10 | Ableton Live 10 Lite Edition

09:56
Get the full course: https://bit.ly/2KrFK7k This video is an excerpt from our 'Ableton Live 10 Lite Edition course' - a comprehensive course for beginners of Ableton Live which will teach you absolutely everything you need to know about the software. The course can be found at https://studioslave.com and also includes project files from the videos. This final video covers exporting in Ableton Live 10. Ableton Live is extremely flexible with its export options, allowing us to export to: Video .Wav, FLAC or .Aiff compressed .mp3 Soundcloud upload We also have a bunch of other options to allow us to export individual tracks or stems as well as just exporting smaller sections of our arrangement using our loop brace. Rendering options allow us to render out loops, normalise samples and loops and also convert to mono. This can be useful for when we are using Live as a tool for tasks such as sample pack creation. We then have some options to change the sample rate, bitrate and dithering. this controls the final quality of the audio we export from Live. If you are wishing to send your music to a mastering engineer we suggest that you export a few versions of your track, along with a file containing the individual tracks and groups as well. This will give you the most amount of flexibility if there is a potential issue with your mix at the mastering stage. As for typical export settings, we suggest leaving all the settings off such as normalisaiton, rendering as a loop and converting to mono (this will ensure your music is true to how it sounds in the DAW) then you can export at the sample rate and bit-depth you have been working at which is going to be 44.1khz sample rate at 24 bits in the vast majority of cases. As for what file type you use, that is totally up to you but all three file types are fairly common with .wav tending to be the preferred. If you are sending to a mastering engineer DO NOT DITHER down to a bit-depth of 26, leave it at 24 bits and the mastering engineer will take care of this in the final phase of mastering. If however you are doing a DIY master yourself then by all means dither down to 16-bits and choose a noise shape of your choice. (noise shaping adds low level noise to remove quantisation errors when dithering to lower bit-depths) - all you need to take from this is that it's designed to make your music sound slightly better, however this would only really be noticeable on rare occasions such as the extremely quiet reverb tail a the end of your track. We hope this has helped to ease some of the complications of choosing your preferencess when exporting your Ableton Live project. Why to record in 24bit, and how to select it.

02:43
Recording at a good bit rate enables You to have more Headroom for Signal editing later on, and allows for a better sound quality right down to the end of the Production, including Mastering, it will be bounced down to 16bit at the Mastering stage anyway. Here is how to select it in Ableton live.

How To Enable Oversampling And Hi-Quality Mode In Ableton Live Audio Effects

01:00
How to enable oversampling and hi-quality mode in ableton audio effects. In eq 8, oversampling causes it to internally process two times the current sample rate, which allows for smoother filter behavior. In the Glue compressor, oversampling helps improve the treatment of transient sounds. For reverb, dynamic tube, flanger, and the saturator--hi quality mode uses an algorithm to provide better sound quality but at the expense of higher cpu load. High quality mode helps generate less distortion and unwanted artifacts, particularly in the high frequency signals. To make these features your default setting, control click on the effects, choosing either oversampling or hi-quality modes, and then select save as default preset. Note that ableton only allows these modes for selected effects, ones that are demonstrated in this tutorial.

Mastering Tips & Tricks: How To Prepare Your Tracks For Mastering

09:47
A complete and informative guide to preparing your track, song or audio for Mastering. From our experience here at Blend Mastering, many people send in audio for mastering that is just not optimised for best results... This video aims to change all of that... A guide showing you how to get the best and most professional results from audio mastering. How to export or bounce your track with confidence so that you know that you will get the most out of it! It is really just as important as the Mastering stage itself so it is worth getting right... For further information or to contact us, please go to: http://www.blendmastering.com Here is a summary of the ESSENTIAL TIPS: 1. Make sure that there are no limiters or compressors on your Master Bus when you Bounce or Export!!! Sub Point: If there is something on your Master Bus that you think you cannot live without, send your Mastering Engineer 2 versions: A No FX Mix and an FX Mix and let your Mastering Engineer know what the effect is. Some prefer to Mix into a Master Bus or 2 Bus Compressor. If so, we say make sure it is a very good one! However, never never leave a limiter in place. 2. Make sure that the level of your Track Peaks somewhere between -6 and -3dB! 3. If the Peak Level of your Track is higher than -3dB, it is best to reduce each tracks level rather than to just drop the master fader. 4. Eliminate any unwanted noise within your Mix. 5. Try to keep your Mix Clean and Dynamic. 6. Leave some silence at the beginning and at the end of your Track (2 - 8 Bars). 7. Bounce your track in the Format that you worked in (the session format) 8. Be sure not to Normalise or to apply any Dither when you Bounce or Export! 9. Think about a track that you really like the sound of and think was mastered really well, that is a similar style to your own track. Send a link through or the track itself so the engineer can use it as a reference to know how loud, bright, bassy you want your song etc. --- If you follow these steps, your Final Audio Master will be the best it can be so it is worth it... Need a Studio Mastering Service? http://www.blendmastering.com Happy Producing and Premastering!

Music Technology 101: Dithering Explained (1/2) - Quantization Noise

06:15
In this two-part video tutorial I will explain dithering from the ground up. For your convenience, here are the links to the two parts: Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2mwXiJqAgA Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb6X3WZ3-Uc You do not need any special background in signal processing, audio or dithering to follow the current videos. However, you should know what bit depth means. If you don't, fear not! Just watch my short video tutorial about bit-depth and sampling rates right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC5KFnSUPNo What's in Part 1: Dithering is all about getting rid of quantization noise. What is quantization noise? Glad you've asked, because that's exactly what we're going to cover in the first part! Shortly put, quantization noise is the noise introduced whenever we reduce the bit depth of our signal. For example, most audio is recorded using 24 bits of resolution, but modern audio CDs only have 16 bits of resolution, implying that a reduction in bit depth must be applied. This reduction will introduce some artifacts known as quantization error, or quantization noise. This "noise" will have some jarring, unpleasant frequency components which we'd like to get rid of. What's in Part 2: In the second part we will cover dithering. To "dither" a signal means to add some form of random noise to it because lowering its bit depth. This dither noise has a beneficial effect: while it doesn't eliminate quantization noise, it gives it a more random, "white" nature which is less disturbing to the listener. When the amount of white noise equals approximately 1 bit in magnitude, the quantization error becomes a lot like white noise. This is because quantization involves rounding the input signal either up or down. When the noise becomes on the order of 1 bit, the rounding becomes random, and therefore the quantization error becomes random as well. DITHERING TYPES Dithering requires that we add random noise to our signal before downsampling. This noise should have a flat spectrum - in other words, be white. However, there is more than one way to generate white random noise. Probably the easiest and most efficient way is to use what's known as a triangular probability distribution function, or TPDF. You might have seen these initials in your dithering plugin. This is an excellent way to efficiently dither. Although we won't discuss the heavy mathematical theory of dithering in this video, I'll just mention that TPDF white noise decouples the first and second moments of the quantization noise. Another option consists of using noise with a non-flat spectrum. For example, you'd might add noise that has more high-frequency components, such as Blue Noise. This is referred to as shaped noise, shaped noise dithering, or colored dithering. What this tries to do is force the dithered quantization noise to occupy higher frequencies that are outside the human audio range. Once again, personal experimentation is key to deciding whether you want to use colored dithering or not, but this is truly a very fine point. You will be fine if you just stick to TPDF. However, a word of caution: only apply colored dithering at the FINAL stage of your processing. If you need to dither audio at some point DURING mixing, use TPDF. This is because subsequent processing of the audio can cause the colored noise to creep into the audible listening range and create nasty artifacts. So: Use TPDF at all stages before mixing, and use TPDF or colored dithering during the final mixdown. Dipl. SWA Complete iZotope Ozone 6 - Dithering Module (11/11)

03:58
This series of 11 video tutorials will get you up to speed on every aspect of iZotope’s amazing new mastering suite. After an overview of the seven powerful processors that make up the Ozone package, we run through the new features introduced with version 6, then show you how to lay out a series of tracks for ‘sweetening’ in preparation for mastering. Getting into the Ozone 6 modules themselves, we start with Dynamics and the global functions, before moving on to explore the various parameters and Vectorscope views of the multiband Imager, used to add ‘air’ or ‘space’ to the mix. In chapter 6, we tackle the Exciter module – an invaluable tool for dialing in high-frequency enhancement – focusing it on specific frequency ranges to generate exactly the required ‘sizzle’. Next comes the Equalizer, which enables excessive peaks to be tamed and holes to be filled with its eight flexible bands. That’s followed by third-party plugin hosting – one of Ozone 6’s marquee features; and finally, we wrap up with the indispensable Maximizer, the all-new Dynamic EQ and the Dithering section.
