In which John Green teaches you about the United States Constitution. During and after the American Revolutionary War, the government of the new country operated under the Articles of Confederation. While these Articles got the young nation through its war with England, they weren't of much use when it came to running a country. So, the founding fathers decided try their hand at nation-building, and they created the Constitution of the United States, which you may remember as the one that says We The People at the top. John will tell you how the convention came together, some of the compromises that had to be made to pass this thing, and why it's very lucky that the framers installed a somewhat reasonable process for making changes to the thing. You'll learn about Shays' Rebellion, the Federalist Papers, the elite vs rabble dynamic of the houses of congress, and start to find out just what an anti-federalist is. Uber CEO Fights With Uber Driver (VIDEO)

13:28
The CEO of Uber got into an argument with one of his drivers. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, the hosts of The Young Turks, break down the video. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. https://www.tytnetwork.com/go “When Uber Chief Executive Officer Travis Kalanick takes an Uber, he prefers a black car, the high-end service his company introduced in 2010. On this particular night in early February—Super Bowl Sunday—Kalanick is perched in the middle seat, flanked by two female friends. Maroon 5’s “Don’t Wanna Know” plays, and Kalanick shimmies. He clutches his smartphone as the three make awkward conversation. The two women ask when his birthday is, and marvel that he’s a Leo. One of his companions appears to say, somewhat inaudibly, that she’s heard that Uber is having a hard year. Kalanick retorts, “I make sure every year is a hard year.” He continues, “That’s kind of how I roll. I make sure every year is a hard year. If it’s easy I’m not pushing hard enough.” There’s no question that it’s been a hard year for Kalanick and Uber—or really, a bad year compressed down into an awful three months. And it keeps getting worse. That pleasant conversation between Kalanick and his friends in the back of an Uber Black? It devolved into a heated argument over Uber’s fares between the CEO and his driver, Fawzi Kamel, who then turned over a dashboard recording of the conversation to Bloomberg. Kamel, 37, has been driving for Uber since 2011 and wants to draw attention to the plight of Uber drivers. The video shows off Kalanick's pugnacious personality and short temper, which may cause some investors to question whether he has the disposition to lead a $69 billion company with a footprint that spans the globe.” Read more here: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-28/in-video-uber-ceo-argues-with-driver-over-falling-fares Hosts: Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian Cast: Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. How To Argue With Your Partner

It isn’t realistic to aim never to argue with our partners; far better to learn how to argue fruitfully and well. This has a lot to do with allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. But given what human nature is like, it would be unwise to make this our goal: the hope can’t be to eliminate arguments altogether, it should be to try to find our way to a better kind of argument. Arguments tend to start when we are confronted – usually rather suddenly – by what appears to us to be the radical selfishness, intransigence or sheer nastiness of the partner...” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/tPDECA MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: http://www.theschooloflife.com/london/ Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: David Horsburgh http://www.davidtheanimator.com/ https://vimeo.com/davidtheanimator #TheSchoolOfLife

Constitutional Compromises: Crash Course Government and Politics #5

08:57
In which Craig Benzine teaches you about the compromises met in ratifying the U.S. Constitution. The United State’s didn’t always have its current system of government. Actually, this is it’s second attempt. Craig will delve into the failures (and few successes) of the Articles of Confederation, tell you how delegates settled on a two-house system of representation, discuss the issues of slavery and population that have been imbedded into our constitution, and fire up the clone machine to discuss how federalists and anti-federalist opposition provided the U.S. a Bill of Rights. And who knows, maybe all this talk of compromise will even inspire Craig and eagle to find some middle ground. 10 FACTS VACCINE COMPANIES Don't Want You to Know !!!

13:43
These are eye-opening facts about vaccines which discuss profits that vaccine manufacturers gain. Also the fact that vaccines are not natural. They are are a pharmaceutical drug. They contain toxic chemicals like thimerosol (mercury), aluminum, formaldehyde, and live viruses. These ingredients may be unsafe and cause dangerous and even deadly side-effects. I also discuss the fact that you can't sue vaccine manufacturers for damages their vaccines may have caused to you or your baby's health. You have to go through vaccine court. I also mention how vaccine research is completely bias. And it is the vaccine companies themselves who provide safety research for their products. Some say there is a connection between vaccines and autism, SIDS, and brain damage. I discuss that. I mention how a leading official in debunking the autism vaccine connection, named Poul Thorsen, was convicted of fraud against the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in 2011. I talk about how there is actually no evidence to prove that vaccines actually work. There has also been a huge increase in the number of shots kids received since 1950. Also, according to an ongoing report, unvaccinated children heave better overall health than vaccinated children. This all comes on the heels of a measles outbreak which started in Disneyland. There's a big debate about the MMR vaccine. What is ETHICAL DILEMMA? What does ETHICAL DILEMMA mean? ETHICAL DILEMMA meaning & explanation

04:59
What is ETHICAL DILEMMA? What does ETHICAL DILEMMA mean? ETHICAL DILEMMA meaning - ETHICAL DILEMMA definition - ETHICAL DILEMMA explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. An ethical dilemma is a complex situation that often involves an apparent mental conflict between moral imperatives, in which to obey one would result in transgressing another. Sometimes called ethical paradoxes in moral philosophy, ethical dilemmas are often invoked in an attempt to refute an ethical system or moral code, or to improve it so as to resolve the paradox. These arguments can be refuted in various ways, for example by showing that the claimed ethical dilemma is only apparent and does not really exist (thus is not a paradox logically), or that the solution to the ethical dilemma involves choosing the greater good and lesser evil (as discussed in value theory), or that the whole framing of the problem omits creative alternatives (such as peacemaking), or (more recently) that situational ethics or situated ethics must apply because the case cannot be removed from context and still be understood. See also case-based reasoning on this process. An alternative to situational ethics is graded absolutism. Perhaps the most commonly cited ethical conflict is that between an imperative or injunction not to steal and one to care for a family that you cannot afford to feed without stolen money. Debates on this often revolve around the availability of alternate means of income or support such as a social safety net, charity, etc. The debate is in its starkest form when framed as stealing food. Under an ethical system in which stealing is always wrong and letting one's family die from starvation is always wrong, a person in such a situation would be forced to commit one wrong to avoid committing another, and be in constant conflict with those whose view of the acts varied. However, there are no legitimate ethical systems in which stealing is more wrong than letting one's family die. Ethical systems do in fact allow for, and sometimes outline, tradeoffs or priorities in decisions. Some have suggested that international law requires this kind of mechanism to resolve whether World Trade Organization (WTO) or Kyoto Protocol takes precedence in deciding whether a WTO notification is valid. That is, whether nations may use trade mechanisms to complain about climate change measures. As there are few economies that can operate smoothly in a chaotic climate, the dilemma would seem to be easy to resolve, but since fallacious justifications for restricting trade are easily imagined, just as fallacious justifications for theft are easily imagined at the family level, the seemingly obvious resolution becomes clouded by the suspicion of an illegitimate motive. Resolving ethical dilemmas is rarely simple or clearcut and very often involves revisiting similar dilemmas that recur within societies: According to some philosophers and sociologists, e.g. Karl Marx, it is the different life experience of people and the different exposure of them and their families in these roles (the rich constantly robbing the poor, the poor in a position of constant begging and subordination) that creates social class differences. In other words, ethical dilemmas can become political and economic factions that engage in long term recurring struggles. See conflict theory and left-wing politics versus right-wing politics. Design of a voting system, other electoral reform, a criminal justice system, or other high-stakes adversarial process for dispute resolution will almost always reflect the deep persistent struggles involved. However, no amount of good intent and hard work can undo a bad role structure: Where a structural conflict is involved, dilemmas will very often recur. A trivial example is working with a bad operating system whose error messages do not match the problems the user perceives. Each such error presents the user with a dilemma: reboot the machine and continue working at one's employment or spend time trying to reproduce the problem for the benefit of the developer of the operating system. So role structure sabotages feedback and results in sub-optimal results since provision has been made to actually reward people for reporting these errors and problems. See total quality management for more on addressing this type of failure and governance on how many ethical and structural conflicts can be resolved with appropriate supervisory mechanisms.

Flatlining – Dealing with Conflict in Relationships, with Michael Mamas

05:11
Follow Michael Mamas: * Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/michaelmamascrs * Twitter: https://twitter.com/michaelmamas * Google+: https://plus.google.com/+MichaelMamas/ In this video, Michael Mamas discusses flatlining – dealing with conflict in relationships. You know, everybody has issues. Their issues will come up against you. They will push your buttons. You’re going to take punches. Period. It’s Kali Yuga. Everybody has issues. I think it helps to understand that everybody sees everybody else’s issues. On some level, you sense them. It’s not like we are all oblivious to so-and-so’s issues and they are pushing your buttons because you see their issues and nobody else does. Everybody sees everybody else’s issues. So the question is, how can you be great? You can be great by navigating those waters wisely. You take a punch, but you don’t get all caught up in it. You don’t let their issues trigger your issues, and then the war goes on. What does that look like? We’re human, so we have our emotions. So our buttons do get pushed. This is important: It’s not about trying to attain a level where your buttons don’t get pushed. Your buttons will get pushed. You will get triggered by other people’s issues. They will ruffle your feathers. That’s not the question. The question is, what do you do about it? How do you deal with it? Do you sit there and hold a grudge? Do you put a person in a box where you judge them and get everyone around you to collude with you and agree with you that this person is bad because…? And now we all can judge that person? Or do you just say, “Do you know what? Everybody has issues. That’s their issues and isn’t it nice that we can all identify so well that person’s issues.” Just move forward. I think we get into trouble when we think we’re the only one who sees this person’s issues, or maybe our little group is the only one that sees this person’s issues. These other people don’t see it. Know that on some level, to some degree, everybody sees everybody else’s issues. In the ashram days, there was a man who was sneaking into the Ayurvedic clinic at night to do treatments on himself. That’s not really fair because it was in the ashram and everybody was paying for the clinic and this guy was sneaking in and getting free treatments. When it came up, I really respected one guy’s response: He shook his head and said, “Well, he needs it.” I thought it was a good attitude. Why get caught up in it? Yeah, we’ll remedy it, we’ll deal with it. But don’t get all stirred up with it. I wrote a blog just this morning on flatlining. It’s like flatlining. If your buttons get pushed, you don’t just buckle, you don’t get all tangled up, you don’t flatline. Instead, you say, “Oh, they pushed my buttons,” and here comes a wave through my physiology, but I’m not going to let it spin my kite. I’m going to keep the tail on the kite, keep my stability, and yeah they pushed my buttons, but I’m still fine. Once you flatline, you’re a mess. If you find people who will flatline with you, that’s called collusion. It doesn’t get you anywhere. Here me when I say if you can do what I just said, if you can work with that and function in that way, you’re great. You’re a great person. It’s really that ridiculously simple. Don’t turn this around and judge yourself. Keep in mind, yes your buttons will get pushed. That’s fine. But what do you do with it? How do you handle it? How do you deal with it? That little thing there about how you deal with it is what will make you great. You will gain the respect of people. As I’ve said in the past, where your power comes from is the respect other people have for you. If you can do what I just said, people will respect you tremendously. You will become a powerful person, a powerful force in nature. It’s just that simple. Cultural difference in business | Valerie Hoeks | TEDxHaarlem

12:18
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. One of the elements of the cultural difference between Europe and China is the importance that is given to relationships. In the West you would assume the importance to be the same, but there is a significant distinction. In China connections with the right people help you to get things done, to survive and to succeed. Whereas in the West content is predominant, in China the way people interact with each other strongly influences the working environment. 'Face' and long-term effects are taken into consideration. Valérie Hoeks (1982) studied Sinology at the Leiden University and has been active in China for over a decade as a traveller, a student and later as an entrepreneur. As soon as she set foot on Chinese soil she knew she would come back many times. In 2010 Valérie co-founded China Inroads in collaboration with with her Dutch and Chinese business partner. China Inroads provides a strong foothold for innovative companies that want to expand their business to the Chinese market. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Peak Conflict Solutions- How to identify causes of conflict at work.

02:52
In this weekly video tutorial, Suzanne explains how to identify the three main causes of conflict at work: conflict over resources, conflict over psychological needs and conflict over values. Transcript: Suzanne Petryshyn: "Hi and welcome to this week's video tutorial. I'm Suzanne Petryshyn and I am owner and CEO of Peak Conflict Solutions. This week, in both LinkedIn Pulse as well as on our website at peakconflictsolutions.com, I wrote two articles about the same topic and theme about the causes of workplace conflict. Now, oftentimes, when people are experiencing conflict in the workplace, everybody's really hypersensitive and reactive to everything that they perceive and everything that is going on for them every day when they come into work and sometimes have to endure all day long. When we look at the causes of workplace conflict, it's important to recognize that theory states that underlying all conflicts in the workplace, there's only three main causes, and those three causes are conflict over resources, conflict over psychological needs, and conflict over values. So if you sit and reflect for a moment, and think about a recent conflict that you've had or a difficult conversation that you've experienced in the workplace, was it about resources, was it about psychological needs, or was it about values? So examples of resource conflict in the workplace include scarce limited resources for a department, so right down to the money. Again, conflict over resources are always the first point of contention in any conflict situation, whether it's at work or at home. The second point is psychological needs. So oftentimes in our relationships, we have unmet emotional or psychological needs. That happens in the workplace as well. So if we're not getting the recognition, if we've been passed over for whatever reason for a new position, whatever the case may be, those underlying psychological needs can also be a cause of conflict in the workplace. Lastly, we look at conflict over values. That can be anything from time management values and expectations between employees and managers, to how to come prepared to a meeting, to general work ethic and value in the workplace. So I encourage you to read both my articles and to think about a recent conflict that you've had in the workplace and if it was about conflict over resources, conflict over psychological needs, or conflict over values. Thanks for watching and tune in again next week." To learn more about how to manage conflict at work visit our website: www.peakconflictsolutions.com
