How to Configure Boot Settings in Windows 10 (Official Dell Tech Support)

02:01
Learn how to configure boot settings in Windows 10 and gain a better understanding of the bios boot options available including Legacy and UEFI. For more information please visit http://dell.com/support For support questions email us at [email protected] VIDEO TRANSCRIPT Welcome to Dell Tech Support. Want to know more about how the boot process of your computer works? In today’s video we’ll cover this, as well as how to customize the boot process according to your needs. When you turn on the computer, it goes through the following steps. The BIOS loads all the physical components first. Then the POST does a quick check on all of them to make sure each one is okay. And finally the BOOT loads and starts the Operating System, this of course all happens in just a few quick seconds. To customize the BOOT process, turn on your computer and press the F2 key repeatedly to access the BIOS. Go to the BOOT tab and check the options available for customization. The Secure Boot is responsible for protecting your Operating System. When this option is Enabled, your system can only be replaced or partitioned through the restoration process (DELL warranty covers ONLY the original Operating System). Legacy Option ROMs (Read Only Memory) is responsible for the default Legacy BIOS. It’s best to keep this option default as Enabled. But if you do decide to change it, back up your data beforehand as this type of change will be applied to your Operating System. The Boot List Option has 2 options: Legacy and UEFI. This is basically the firmware option you can choose to boot your device. Legacy is the oldest firmware for Operating Systems that will work with the MBR file format (Master Boot Record). UEFI stands for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface which speeds up the boot process but also protects the Operating System. It prevents a new system from being installed over the original factory installation and it is not possible to create other partitions in this mode. For additional information on understanding Boot Options within BIOS, check out the link provided in the video description below. http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/4/SLN142679/EN

How To Change Boot Order In Computer BIOS [For Beginners]

02:54
This tutorial demonstrates how to launch the built-in BIOS utility to change the boot order of your devices on your computer. If you are looking to set the primary boot device to a usb flash drive/stick or CD/DVD follow these steps. If you ever want to change these settings back, you can do so following the keyboard shortcuts located in the BIOS. Remember to always save your changes before closing out of the utility. To boot from a CD, DVD or USB device, make sure that the device has boot sequence priority over the hard drive. BIOS (Basic Input Output Subsystem) is a programmable chip that controls how information is passed to various devices in the computer system. A typical method to access the BIOS settings screen is to press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the boot sequence. BIOS settings allow you to run a boot sequence from a floppy drive, a hard drive, a CD-ROM drive or an external device. You may configure the order that your computer searches these physical devices for the boot sequence. The first device in the order list has the first boot priority. For example, to boot from a CD-ROM drive instead of a hard drive, place the CD-ROM drive ahead of the hard drive in priority. Before you set boot priority for a USB device, plug the device into a USB port. To specify the boot sequence: 1. Start the computer and press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the initial startup screen. Depending on the BIOS manufacturer, a menu may appear. 2. Choose to enter BIOS setup. The BIOS setup utility page appears. 3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. System devices appear in order of priority. 4. To give a CD or DVD drive boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list. 5. To give a USB device boot sequence priority over the hard drive, do the following: Move the hard drive device to the top of the boot sequence list. Expand the hard drive device to display all hard drives. Move the USB device to the top of the list of hard drives. Save and exit the BIOS setup utility. 6. The computer will restart with the changed settings. 7. Boot Priority Options Some computer manufacturers allow you to select the device that contains the boot sequence from a special device selection menu. The example below uses a Dell system board. To set boot priority using a device selection menu: 1.When the computer starts to boot up, after the manufacturer's ID screen, press F12 several times. The device selection menu appears. 2. Use the up and down arrows to select CD-ROM or an USB Flash Drive. 3. To boot from the selected device, press ENTER. Note: Using an incorrect BIOS setting can cause a system malfunction. Please follow the BIOS guide provided with your computer motherboard. If you read these instructions and you are not sure how to change a setting, it is better to leave it as the default setting. This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

This sequence is determined within the BIOS settings of your PC. It's best to leave that as default in order to keep the start time to a minimum. If you want to start your PC from DVD or USB to for example install Windows, then you can access the boot menu. Install Windows 10 from USB (using ISO-file): https://youtu.be/cFCys-Hgl1c

Dell Boot Sequence Problem Solution

01:56
I got several Dell Dimension E521s from a office that was closing down, they didn't come with any hard drives. So, I didn't know if they would work or not. After a week, I got 2 used hard drives from a computer store that deal in used computer equipment and computers for about $10 for a 250 gb hdd, and $5 for a 160 gb hdd. I installed them onto both computers, and one of the computers had a problem booting. I put the operating system in the DVD drive, and it didn't work. I proceeded to the BIOs to change the boot sequence. I put the CD/DVD-ROM drive first, and the hard drive next. However, the only drive that was numbered was the USB device. The next thing I did was save the information I changed on the BIOs and exited the BIOs. The operating system was in the drive, and it did not work again. I never encountered anything like this before, I was perplexed. I came with another idea. I went to the BIOs and I went to the BIOs sequence menu again. Then, pressed the spacebar to number the sequence, and it worked. Correct Boot Sequence 1. DVD-ROM/CD-ROM 2. Hard Drive Incorrect Boot Sequence DVD-ROM/CD-ROM Hard Drive 1. usb boot drive I guess, you learn something new everyday. Buying old computers for cheap and upgrading to the limit are one of my hobbies. I have some experience with this model. I was able to upgrade the Dell Dimension E-521 to a very modern system which I use at my office today. The specs are as follows. CPU: Athlon 64 x 2 5600+ 2.9 ghzs GPU: PNY Geforce GT 740 1 gb DDR5 RAM: 8 gbs DDR2 PC-5300 667 mhzs Hard Drive: Western Digital 1 TB sata 3 DVD-ROM: Samsung SSH-224 sata 3 Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits The system works well. I can play mp3s on it while I am at work. I can watch or listen to Youtube videos while I am using other work applications. It can handle everything I throw at it. For me it is different, I am a independent contractor, so I have to provide myself with my own equipment. I had a Intel I7 4790 at my office, and I used the modernized Dell Dimension E-521 instead. I got the computer for free, but I had to upgrade it. How to Fix a Computer that Won't Boot Up (Official Dell Tech Support)

02:35
Learn how to fix a computer that won't boot up. We show you how to troubleshoot and fix no boot issues for both Laptops and Desktops with easy to do steps. Dell support article: No power, post, boot, video for Desktops... http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN153751 Dell support article: No post for Notebooks... http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN151805 For more information please visit http://dell.com/support For support questions email us at [email protected] TRANSCRIPT Welcome to Dell Tech Support. Sometimes your system refuses to boot into Windows after starting up. In this video we will go through some basic troubleshooting to determine why your PC is not booting and help to resolve this issue. First we need to verify if you are experiencing what is called a ‘No Boot issue’ and not another type of failure. Check if the computer completes the POST which is the initial power up: it is the Power-On Self-Test. If the computer advances past the Dell logo splash screen, but then hangs when attempting to load the operating system, then it is most likely a No Boot issue. If this is the case, it is best to run a hardware diagnostic. Watch our tutorial on running the ePSA test which you can access at the end of this video (Diagnose Hardware Issues on your Dell Computer https://youtu.be/rMBIyeelQA0 ). If all the diagnostic tests pass, reboot your system and take note of any specific error messages. If there are some, contact us and we will help you with a resolution. You can also check to see if the peripherals are causing interference. With your PC off, unplug all external devices, such as USB drives, printers, cameras and phones. For desktop computers, it is okay to keep the monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to the system. You should also remove any external media like DVDs and CDs and memory cards. Restart your PC to see if it is able to boot. If it can you are good, but you should check which peripheral is the culprit. Test each separately by restarting the system with only one connected at a time. Another thing to try is to reset the BIOS back to default values. Restart the computer and repeatedly press the F2 key at the Dell logo until you enter the system setup. Look for an option reset to default settings. Then save and exit. If your system is still unable to boot into Windows, you can reset your PC or restore it to factory settings. Watch these topics for information and access these at the end of this video (How to Perform a System Restore https://youtu.be/j5OZPb0Wdp4 and Creating a Recovery Drive in Win10 https://youtu.be/FQA2LrSvMtg ). To go even deeper, check out the Dell article links provided in the description below for advanced troubleshooting techniques. Read the Dell articles on No POST / No Boot topics (for Desktops http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN153751 and for Notebooks http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN151805 ). Dell Vostro 3550 - Gestione BIOS e boot Windows 7

05:02
