"Where there's a will, there's gonna be a way," CrossFit founder and CEO Greg Glassman says as he addresses equipment concerns about the 2011 CrossFit Games, including the CrossFit Games Open. "I don't think that any ordinary tool that can be a vehicle for expressing power should be excluded," Glassman says. He says he encountered the same resistance with the first WODs using rings, which at the time were expensive, special-order equipment but have now become an integral part of CrossFit. According to CrossFit's founder, you can't strip away the neurological components of CrossFit (coordination, accuracy, agility and balance) or basic CrossFit equipment and still get the results we desire. Training challenging movements is required to get fitter. Answering a question about the video-submission procedures for the Open, Glassman announces HQ will use a community-based judging system. "I think that as the time continues through the duration of this thing that our focus is going to be increasingly limited to a couple hundred people, and I'm going to have a hundred thousand of you out there (as) armchair kind of quarterbacks," he says. "I don't see another way to do this," Glassman concludes. We got another video. Today we talked about important tips for the beginner starting crossfit. I broke it down into 8 tips. 1. https://crossfit.com/ has exercise demonstrations and great articles on the crossfit journal (http://journal.crossfit.com/) 2. Properly scale the workout if you can not perform the exercise consistently. 3. You must understand the mechanics of the exercise, then you need to be able to perform the exercise with great mechanics consistently, and then you can eventually incorporate intensity. 4. Build the foundation exercises FIRST (Squats, presses, deadlifts) and slowly work into olympic lifts. 5. Record yourself performing the exercises and look for mistakes (compare to other athletes with similar body type). 6. Make sure your coach is a qualified trainer. 7. Listen to your body. Be patient. When you're new it's easy to get carried away in your training and end up getting burnt out or injured. 8. For the first couple months, only do basic bodyweight exercises and increase the amount of reps every week. When you're new, your body isn't used to lifting a heavy load.

When doing kettlebell snatch make sure you start with straight back, first pull with your back muscles and than continue with your arm and traps. Also make sure you are not holding kettlebell too tightly in overhead phase because it will hit you hard to your elbow. The burpee is a fantastic full body exercise. Burpees can also be super fatiguing when done inefficiently. Let’s best real, Burpees can be super fatiguing done efficiently too! In order to make Burpees suck less, it’s important to look at your pattern of movement and determine where we can clean and tighten things up. One point of efficiently is the landing coming from out of the bottom of the Burpee. Landing on your toes heavily loads the calves. Landing flat, better loads the entire leg. And it will take much longer to fatigue the entire leg. Thus allowing you to get more work done with less unnecessary energy expenditure. Shaw is the only person to ever win all of the following competitions: World’s Strongest Man, Arnold Classic Strongman and America’s Strongest Man. Standing at 6’8” and weighing over 400 pounds/180 KG, he is also one of the largest athletes in the world. Strongman career After Brian finished playing basketball in college he shifted his focus to training harder and trying to get stronger. Without a competitive outlet something was missing and at this point Brian decided to enter a local Colorado Strongman competition without any formal strongman training. He won! From there he was hooked on Strongman and entered every competition he could, started training more specifically and began to build up his personal strongman equipment so he could train more specifically for the events. Brian set the goal of earning his pro card which he accomplished 7 months after his first contest. He then set the goal of becoming a good professional strongman and qualifying for his first World’s Strongest Man contest which he achieved in 2008. He then set his sights on winning the World’s Strongest Man which he achieved in 2011 and has been able to accomplish an additional 3 times in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Single arm kettlebell clean and jerks are pretty easy movement if you don't have some freaking heavy kettlebell but if you want to make it more challenging just use two kettlebells of same weight. A little over a year ago, Maura Brown entered Jason Khalipa's affiliate CrossFit Santa Clara weighing 260-lbs. She couldn't do a single air squat, or hang from the pull-up bar. Since then, Maura has lost over 100-lbs. and completely transformed herself. "You watch over the past year just the transformation as an individual from someone who wasn't as comfortable to now comfortable, happy, proud, and strong," Khalipa says. CrossFit has helped Brown to, in her words, "live my life fuller every day." She works as a fifth-grade teacher and instructs all subjects, including physical education. Through her experience with CrossFit, Brown now feels that she can be a "true example" for her students of how to live a healthy and active lifestyle. She's even found ways to incorporate nutrition into math class. Brown's next step is competing in the CrossFit Games Open. She was originally planning to wait a year to compete. But, then she thought, why not do it this year, and use it as "some kind of marker of where I am now." And next year, she knows she'll be in even better shape. The exercises you'll learn today are based off of the research you'll see below. Here's something that most people may not know... (I didn't know until doing the extra research for this video) Almost all of the popular "agility" drills and exercises that you see... are technically NOT training agility. They are actually training "Change Of Direction" (C.O.D.) According to many of the articles we read such as this article from the International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching... Agility & Change Of Direction are two independent skills. http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1260/1747-9541.10.1.159 The main difference between these two different skills is the addition of "Reactive Decision Making". Change Of Direction drills do not include reactive decision making. (example: cones, ladders, shuttle runs) Agility drills include reactive decision making. (example: tag, reaction races, arrow drill inside today's video) Now what's more important... inside this same article they found no strong correlation between high performers in C.O.D. & high performers in Agility. What this means is that just because we train C.O.D. (ladders, cones, etc.) does not mean we will see an improvement with our true Agility. Change Of Direction drills are still great to train as an athlete. You will experience improvements with your speed, braking ability, and performance with Change Of Direction. It's just crucial that you also add in real agility drills that include the "Reactive Decision Making" if you want to see an improvement with your actual agility. That's why in today's video you get 3 drills in total. 2 Change Of Direction drills and 1 Agility drill. For the change of direction drills you will be use exercises based off of the extensive research in this article from "Strength & Conditioning Research" (which reviews multiple studies). How To Clean and Press | Shoulder Exercise Guide

Learn how to do the clean and press exercise with this tutorial. For more exercises: http://bbcom.me/22jSyPp Add this clean and press exercise to your shoulder workout! Assume a shoulder-width stance, with knees inside the arms. Now while keeping the back flat, bend at the knees and hips so that you can grab the bar with the arms fully extended and a pronated grip that is slightly wider than shoulder width. Point the elbows out to sides. The bar should be close to the shins. Position the shoulders over or slightly ahead of the bar. Establish a flat back posture. This will be your starting position. Begin to pull the bar by extending the knees. Move your hips forward and raise the shoulders at the same rate while keeping the angle of the back constant; continue to lift the bar straight up while keeping it close to your body. As the bar passes the knee, extend at the ankles, knees, and hips forcefully, similar to a jumping motion. As you do so, continue to guide the bar with your hands, shrugging your shoulders and using the momentum from your movement to pull the bar as high as possible. The bar should travel close to your body, and you should keep your elbows out. At maximum elevation, your feet should clear the floor and you should start to pull yourself under the bar. The mechanics of this could change slightly, depending on the weight used. You should descend into a squatting position as you pull yourself under the bar. As the bar hits terminal height, rotate your elbows around and under the bar. Rack the bar across the front of the shoulders while keeping the torso erect and flexing the hips and knees to absorb the weight of the bar. Stand to full height, holding the bar in the clean position. Without moving your feet, press the bar overhead as you exhale. Lower the bar under control . I first talked to John over a year ago as I was a guest on Power Athlete Radio. When interacting with John, there is never any doubt of where he stands on any issue. What is a Clean? Clean (Weight Lifting) A weight lifting clean is an explosive lower-body powered movement that lifts a weight from a lower position to a higher position which is called racking position. The racking position can be chest or shoulder height depending on what equipment and grip are used. The clean can be performed with a piece of exercise equipment from the ground i.e. dead, from a hanging position, or a during a ballistic movement like the swing. The #kettlebell #clean is more commonly used as a transitional or combo movement, but can also be used as an exercise on its own. A clean can be a transition to another move, for example performing 10 swings, clean, and perform 10 shoulder presses. A clean can be included in a combo, for example in the clean and jerk, clean and press, or clean and front squat. A clean can be an exercise on its own, for example, 10 dead cleans on the left and right side, 10 gorilla cleans, or 10 double kettlebell swing cleans. Why Is It Called a Clean? Here’s an interesting one for you, as I know you’ve been wondering about the name–yes you have, admit it! The movement is called a “clean”, because it requires a clean movement, free from irregularities, smoothly and skillfully performed. If you lift your barbell or kettlebell, and the movement is interrupted, or the equipment bangs on your body parts, it wasn’t very clean. Mark Bell can be considered the strongest strength coach in the world. He is a husband, a father of two, an editor for Power Magazine, an inventor of the Sling Shot and the owner of "The Strongest Gym In The West," Super Training, in Sacramento, CA. His gym was voted by Men's Health as one of the top 30 gyms in the country. He also coaches a team of 20 highly competitive powerlifters. To top it off he has also established the wildly popular "Power Project Q and A," which now has over 2 million views. Mark is a World and American record holding pro powerlifter. He has squatted 1,080 lbs, benched 854 lbs, and deadlifted 766 lbs. His overall total is 2,628 lb, which is the highest in California history. Keto (Gentleman) Response I wasn't even going to do this video. I wasn't going to do a rebuttal video to Jillian Michaels, and I wasn't going to because my parents taught me when I was growing up to always take the high road and remain focused on your mission, and my mission has been to provide amazing educational content for people to change their lives, and not take a step backward just because I need to go to battle with somebody. So, it took a lot for me even to get this far in producing this video, but the fact is I recognize that I have an obligation to my audience. I have obligation to YouTube, and I have an obligation to the people that lean on me for educational content, and rather than doing this to bash Jillian Michaels, or to refute what she's saying, or to fight, I'm doing it to elevate you that are watching this to maybe bring to light some things that you didn't realize that were there with the ketogenic diet. Okay, so, first off, let me breakdown really quick why I don't want to fight with Jillian Michaels, why I don't want to do that. Okay, it's not because I'm a beta male type person, that's not why. I'm not just laying over. I just don't want to deal with something that's already been covered years ago. The things that Jillian is bringing up are things that have been covered through multiple studies and through research years, and years, and years, and years ago. We don't need to revisit that stuff. I don't need to go back to kindergarten and have this like, embryonic very basic rebuttal with her, that just doesn't make sense. I'm focusing on higher level stuff. If you watch my content, we're evolving, we're producing things that are all about elevating keto and optimizing human life. The other thing she talks about is the micronutrient deficiency. She says that when you're on a keto diet, you're losing all kinds of micronutrients. Okay, so, that means that you're not getting the vitamins and minerals that you need. All right, well, if you're eating a balanced keto diet, that's not an issue. Like, not at all. You should be eating the greens, you should be getting these things that are going to get you your vitamins and minerals in, and you should be getting a lot of them. So, if you're not doing the keto diet that way, then you need to readjust anyway. So, quite frankly, she's just brought attention to the fact that people need to be doing the right kind of keto diet. So, she's totally right. If people are just out there just eating bacon and cheese, and stuff like that, then honestly, it's not good for them. She's not incorrect, okay, that's definitely the thing. So, I don't want to say that she's doing anything wrong there. She's actually bringing attention to something that needs to have attention brought to. Now, I don't want to go to each study on weight loss, and yada yada yada. That's just, okay, it's been done already. I've seen all the videos. The main thing that I want to talk about is when it comes down to weight loss, if you want to keep the weight off, it's all about your resting metabolic rate. Okay, here's an example I've given in a lot of videos. If you are a 200 pound person, and you lose 50 pounds, your metabolism is going to reduce to the amount of you being basically 150 pounds, right. Well, the cool thing with the keto diet is your resting metabolic rate doesn't change. The Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism published a study that found that test subjects that lost 40 pounds ended up having the same metabolic rate as they did before they lost the weight, whereas most people when they lose weight, their metabolism's slowing down. So, there's no change in resting metabolic rate with the keto diet, proving that it's one of the best ways to lose weight and keep it off. So, as always, keep it locked in to my videos, keep forward thinking, elevate yourself, take the high road, disregard her, and move on with your own life.
