Truncate Database Log Files

03:40
Truncating Large (Huge) SQL Database Logs in SQL 2012. ** THIS SHOULD ONLY be done is you are okay loosing data should your data disk go bad. Not recommended for high-integrity data. ** Recommended for a temporary queue system. First change recovery model to In Enterprise Manager, right click on the db Properties ===> Option ==> Recovery change: Full ==> Simple Then run the following: DBCC SHRINKFILE( DATABASEName_log, TRUNCATEONLY) The nice thing about this method is that it goes extremely fast; the operations are sub-second, as compared to backup operations which take very long. This is helpful when taking on urgent out of disk space issues.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication - Exchange Logs Truncation

01:30
Exchange Server database transaction logs record all changes to an Exchange Server database. Over time, these log files accumulate and can consume all of the available disk space, if not periodically removed. NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides an option to delete (aka truncate) the logs after a successful backup to free up disk space. This feature is purely agentless and works right out of the box.

Deleting Carbonite Log File

03:04
Do Not Try This At Home! Are you using a online backup service like Carbonite? If not you should be, for $55 a year for unlimited backup you can not go wrong. But if you are using Carbonite you might find you are losing space on your hard drive in this directory "ProgramData\Carbonite\Carbonite Backup", caused by this file, carbonite.log. We currently have a log file on one of our workstations that is reaching 110GB! Guess what, this file is as described, it is a log file, stop the Carbonite service, delete the file, restart your workstation and Carbonite will create a new log file in its place that will be much smaller than the previous file. The only downfall to doing this from our research is that if for some reason you are having issues with the Carbonite service they may request access to this file to find out what is causing your problems.

SQL Log Truncation with NAKIVO Backup & Replication

03:42
Any Microsoft SQL Server tracks all database transactions (modifications) and records them as transaction log files, which are essential when it comes to data recovery. However, these log files grow over time and may eventually fill all of the available storage space causing the SQL Server crash, or loss of valuable data. The Microsoft SQL Log Truncation feature can automatically remove (aka truncate) transaction log files after a successful VM backup or replica are made. This prevents log files from growing while you have a copy of log files in the backup or replica, should you need to restore your database data.

Uh Oh, My SharePoint SQL Database Log Files are huge!

02:31
It happens often enough in the SMB space that this quick video how to was warranted. SharePoint uses SQL Server. SQL Server has databases. Those databases have log files. Those logfiles can get quite big if not properly maintained or if backup software doesn't do its job to inform SQL that the logfiles can be truncated (shrunk) after a successful backup has been performed, when a database is set to use the "Full" recovery type. This short video shows how to change the database recovery type, shrink the database and then put it back the way it was... Hope it helps someone out there. Sean www.itgroove.net

SBM: Log File Maintenance

10:58
General tips for maintaining SBM log files with Collect Log Files. In the video I discuss how using the "Collect Log Files" button in configurator can be a good way to do some general maintenance on the many log files that SBM uses. I talk about how to look for old log files that are of no use but continue to take up space and make the .zip file created with Collect Log Files bigger than it needs to be. This procedure might alert you to some issue the system may be having without you knowing about it and might cause problems down the road. One part of the video I show an Active Diagnostics log that is about 8gb which isn't out of the ordinary but one thing I forgot to mention was to just take a look at the various sliders in the Active Diagnostics screen. All the sliders are normally set to the "Error" level so if you're not currently trying to diagnose a problem using Active Diagnostics just set any that are higher than "Error" back down and click the "Apply Runtime Configuration" button. That button doesn't require a restart so the change is immediate. With those sliders set higher like to "Debug" it may just be adding more to the Active Diagnostic log for no reason. A lot of folks forget to slide these back down after they have finished investigating an issue with support. - More Micro Focus Links: HOME: https://www.microfocus.com PRODUCTS & SOLUTIONS: https://www.microfocus.com/products SUPPORT & SERVICES: https://www.microfocus.com/support-and-services COMMUNITY: https://www.microfocus.com/communities Micro Focus is a global software company with 40 years of experience in delivering and supporting enterprise software solutions that help customers innovate faster with lower risk.

Taking database backups Differential and Transaction Log Backups, Part 3

09:49
For more videos on technology, visit http://www.Techytube.com By [email protected], http://www.techytube.com/author/jayanth-kurup/ This next video in the series explores the slightly more advanced concepts when taking database backup. The traditional role of backups is to bring the database back online with as little data loss as possible and this video shows how to achieve this goal. The video explore the different types of backups that are available in addition to the Full database backup that was explored in the previous video. It explores the differential and transaction log backups as well as the role the role they play in a conventional backup and restore strategy. The video then moves on to show how to take the differential and transaction log back up using the GUI and a few considerations that need to be kept in mind when performing these operations. While we are showing how to take these backups manually in this video, we have already covered maintenance plans and how to automate the process of taking backups in another video on this site already. In order to keep the video under 10 min the operations are split across this vide and the next part of the series called "Part 4:- Restoring database backups Differential and Transaction Log Backups"

Go troll yourself.

01:22
Perhaps this is more of a statement against consumerism than it is a political diatribe. No doubt you will feel an overtone of criticism, which stems from this piece's subtle suggestion that we should consider a reexamination of our social issues; perhaps it is us who are truly in possession of that blank, glazed over, and listless look. Who can peer beyond the superficial and into true insight without such unshakable concentration? Though lifeless, her gaze represents an ideal that strives for a taste of a new and cleansed perception. Such a transformative philosophy is not intuitively evident, and as such, it is achieved only in exchange for a considerable opportunity cost. Such is the case with all learned things, and in this particular, she has suffered three great losses as a result of her search for an alternative: First, the loss of grasp on the concrete. All matter is mostly empty space, and it is not that which seems real that is the object occupying space, but it is the idea that fills the void; the idea of the object sits there, in plain sight, in binary, as the perfect expression of form in a blank substrate without such a thing. The loss is suffered as she realizes the true nature of matter, and thus, reality. The second loss is her free will. Even as you read this, you refuse to accept the fact that your very consciousness, all of your mind's capacities, your sentience- indeed, the very qualia of your experiences, are part of an infinitely long causal chain. She is the collection of a few mental events, and this collection is in a line of events whose vanishing points are at infinity. Her choices were always unavoidably dependent upon states of mechanical motion that were set eons before loss was possible. Third is the self. When she is reduced to pure and uninterrupted subjectivity, and she is no longer the object of another's subjective experience, she sheds all that is not pure consciousness, and it is no longer the I who is there. What is now left to be lost? This started as a purposely pretentious rant, because I was satirizing the creative, and somewhere along the way it became serious. Got to go- it's done uploading. Restoring database backups Differential and Transaction Log Backups, Part 4

08:13
For more videos on technology, visit http://www.Techytube.com By [email protected], http://www.techytube.com/author/jayanth-kurup/ In this fourth part of the series we are going to explore the options available in taking transaction log backups and tail log backups. The role they play in restoring to a point in time and how to perform the actual restore operation. We will also look at how to use a stand by file to be able to restore to the previous transaction log file in case the tail log backup is not an option. While performing the restore operation we will explore the new timelines feature available within SSMS and see how we can use it to restore the database to the required point in time easily. The video is a continuation of the previous part of the series in which we explored how to take differential and full backups and the logic behind the working of these backups. The series will wind up in the next video where we explore how to perform page level restores and how to take file and filegroup backups.
