Netherlands looking for Euro Exit as Supercomputer prepares for Financial Judgement Day

Follow us @ http://twitter.com/laurenlyster http://twitter.com/coveringdelta "We will keep all options -- including military action -- on the table to prevent [Iran] from obtaining a nuclear weapon," Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told America's Pro-Israel lobby AIPAC today. Swiss money manager and Gloom Boom Doom Report publisher Marc Faber isn't waiting for war. He said in an interview he thinks "sooner or later, the U.S. or Israel will strike Iran - it's almost inevitable." Faber recommends a formula of 25% cash, 25% equities, 25% gold, and 25% real estate or real estate equities as a formula to provide some safety against these financial headwinds. We ask Mike Shedlock, Investment Advisor for Sitka Pacific Capital and author of the popular Global Economic Analysis blog what he thinks. Meanwhile, more trouble brews in Euroland as Eurostat reports that the eurozone did contract 0.3% as estimated in the fourth quarter from the third quarter. Meanwhile, Greece tries to get investors on board with its debt swap deal by the Thursday deadline. As for bondholders taking the haircut, Greece's Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said in an interview, "this is the best offer because this is the only one, the only existing offer." Meanwhile a detailed 73-page report is circulating called "The Netherlands and the euro," and it shows the Netherlands would benefit by leaving the eurozone. Mike "Mish" Shedlock talks about it and explains why Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain are going to need lots more money and Germany and the Netherlands will end up footing the bill. Meanwhile, Super Tuesday has voters heading to the polls in Republican primaries as the presidential election campaign season gains more steam. The auto bailouts have driven some of the debate recently with Mitt Romney's race in Motor City home state Michigan and also with attack ads including one lampooning the Chevy Volt, targeting Barack Obama and GM. You've heard the horse race partisan analysis, so we look at what may really be behind criticism of the auto bailouts from the same people who supported bailouts for the banks (e.g. Mitt Romney). Is it because Wall Street wants the bailouts for themselves but bankruptcies for everyone else so they can benefit off buying them up? And we debate Watson, the computer jeopardy champion, going to work on Wall Street, and whether or not guilty people are harder workers as a study finds.

Economy of the Netherlands

17:32
According to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the Netherlands was the 18th largest economy of the world in 2012. This for a country that has about 17 million inhabitants.). GDP per capita is roughly $43,404 which makes it one of richest nations in the world per capita). Between 1996 and 2000 annual economic growth averaged over 4%, well above the European average. Growth slowed considerably in 2001-05 as part of the global economic slowdown. 2006 and 2007 however showed economic growth of 3.4% and 3.9%. The Dutch economy was hit considerably by the ongoing global financial crisis and the ensuing European debt crisis.. The Netherlands have a prosperous and open economy, which depends heavily on foreign trade. The economy is noted for stable industrial relations, fairly low unemployment and inflation, a very big sizable current account surplus and an important role as a European transportation hub, with Rotterdam as far out the biggest port in Europe and Amsterdam as one of the biggest airports in Europe. Industrial activity is predominantly in food processing, chemicals, petroleum refining, hightech, financial services, creative sector and electrical machinery. A highly mechanised agricultural sector employs no more than 2% of the labour force but provides large surpluses for the food-processing industry and for exports. The Netherlands, along with 11 of its EU partners, began circulating the euro currency on 1 January 2002. This video is targeted to blind users. World's 10 Most Prosperous Countries

04:05
The top ten countries on the prosperity index, determined by rankings across nine key categories: Economic Quality, Natural Environment, Health, Social Capital, Personal Freedom, Safety and Security, Education, Governance, and Business Environment. Study by the Legatum Institute: http://www.prosperity.com/rankings?pinned=&filter= Subscribe to TDC: https://www.youtube.com/TheDailyConversation/ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/thedailyconversation Video by Bryce Plank and Robin West Music: "Solar Flares" by Silent Partner (YouTube music library) Script: These are the top 10 most prosperous countries according to the Legatum Institute whose mission is to promote policies that lift people from poverty to prosperity. The study ranked countries across nine key metrics. The 10th most prosperous nation is the United Kingdom. It’s strong business economy allowed it to crack the top 5 in that category. It was top 10 in economic quality, natural environment, and education—helped by its vocational training reform efforts that saw it climb from 14th in the world in 2007. Ninth is Denmark which scores best on Safety and Security as thefts have dropped by 25% over the last decade. Air pollution has fallen by 63% over the same period, improving its Natural Environment ranking by 26 spots. To improve, Denmark should focus on its health system, which isn’t as strong as its Nordic neighbors. Sweden comes in eighth. It’s 3rd-ranked economy is its best asset. Sweden actually ranked first in overall prosperity from 2010 to 2012, but it’s education and governance scores have slipped slightly since then. It’s still very prosperous and is the third least corrupt country in the whole world. Seventh is the Netherlands. The Dutch are wealthy, healthy, educated, and served very well by their government. While its Natural Environment ranking is only 36th — the lowest score across any category for any country in this top ten — that’s actually up 37 spots from where it was in 2007. Australia is sixth. It is the only country in the top 20 to record an absolute decline in prosperity since 2007. Its government has adopted protectionist trade policies that have driven down the quality and diversity of its economy. On the bright side, its Health Care ranking is on the upswing despite rising obesity levels. In the same spot as last year is Canada at number 5. It is second-best on personal freedom, but its healthcare rank is hurt by rising obesity and diabetes rates. Canada is also top-ten in Governance, Social Capital, and Economic Prosperity. Fourth is Switzerland, the country with the best education score. It is one of only two Western European countries to see its Economic Quality score improve over the last decade, as the rest of the continent was hit hard by the 2008 global financial crisis. Finland is the third most prosperous nation. It is top-ranked in governance, second in Natural Environment, and third in Education. Surprisingly its Health score puts it at 21st in that category. The decline of its two main industries, timber and Nokia electronics, has led to a surge in unemployment. Norway is second for the fourth straight year, a consistent performer across the board that doesn’t rank in the top two in any category, but also doesn’t fall below 13th anywhere either. 93% of Norwegians say they’re satisfied with living standards in the country. And the most prosperous nation in the world is New Zealand for the fourth year in a row. It is best in Economic Quality thanks to free and open markets. There is clearly a synergistic effect between its top-ranked Social Capital score, its second-ranked Governance mark, and its high level of Personal Freedom. On the flip side, these are the bottom 10 countries. The prolonged civil war in Syria would likely land it down here, but there hasn’t been enough accurately collected and reported data lately to rank it. The US is ranked 17th. With the top-ranked business environment — but health and environment rankings down in the 30’s — we really need to get our priorities straight. And these are the top ten countries for each category: Economic Quality; Business Environment; Governance; Education; Health; Safety and Security; Personal Freedom; Social Capital; and Natural Environment. I hope this video shed light on the countries we should look to for ideas on creating more prosperity across our own societies. Our recent examination of the top 10 recycling countries led some of you to express concern about President Trump’s lack of respect for the environment, others were surprised that Japan didn’t make the list, while many of you agreed that Germany belonged in the top spot. Until next time, for TDC, I’m Bryce Plank, thanks for watching.

Erdogan's followers in The Netherlands - Docu - 2016

48:10
The struggle of many Turkish Dutch people: do you have to choose between your fatherland and your motherland? During and after the failed coup attempt in Turkey, thousands of Turkish Dutch living in The Netherlands went on the streets to support President Erdogan and the elected Turkish government. The fact that some people in the Dutch Turkish community went on the streets in The Netherlands in order to openly support Erdogan brought up the question of the community's integration and loyalty to the Netherlands. What lays under this embrace of the Turkish democracy? Original title: Erdogans aanhang Since the failed coup attempt and the display of the Turkish flags on the Dutch streets, the debate has broken loose. In the last years, the overall image of the Turkish Dutch is absolutely positive. They are often successfully integrated and score low on the list of crime rates. With higher and higher education, some of them even resturn to Turkey to take advantage of the economic growth there. In short, a community who rarely reaches the front pages. Now, after the coup attempt in Turkey, the Turkish Dutch who see Erdogan as a carrier of democracy are suddenly catching all the attention: the degree of their integration and their loyalty to the Netherlandsare being questioned. And more particularly the pro Erdogan and strongly against the coup slogans that were chanted during the protests set a lot of people loose. Why do the Turkish Dutch support a president often described in Europe as a dictator? For the followers, Turkish pride, Erdogan and sovereignty are inextricably linked. But what is hidden behind the self-conscious embrace of the Turkish democracy? Is that also linked to the fact that the Turkish Dutch community does not feel fully accepted by the Dutch as Dutch citizens? Do the turkish Dutch have to choose between the Netherlands and Turkey? Is it possible to choose between your father and your mother? Is ITALY worse off with the EURO? - VisualPolitik EN

14:25
Italy is the only country, alongside with Greece, that is poorer now than before having the EURO as their official currency. In fact, their economy has been stagnated for two decades and they are one of the biggest indebted economies, with a debt bigger than 130% of their GDP. Many European pundits call this country “the sick man in Europe”. Nevertheless, 20 years ago, Italy was one of the wealthiest economies on the planet. Their citizens were even richer than those from Great Britain and their industry was the second biggest in all across Europe. The entire world enjoyed the music of Eros Ramazzotti or Luciano Pavarotti, the Spaguetti Western movies and... well, the Rocco Siffredi movies too. Now those days are gone. This is why many Italian politicians suggest that leaving the Euro would be a solution to get back to the golden years of the Italian economy. But is it right? Is the Euro the problem in Italy? Why are they in such a big crisis? And why did Italy become so rich in the 80s and the 90s, despite the corruption, the red tape and the political unrest? In this video we will answer all of those questions. *ERRATUM Min 8.40: There is a mistake in the chart. It says "1 It LIRA = 400 DM" and "1 It. LIRA = 1300 DM". We meant it the other way around. What is the current market landscape and what is changing? The Netherlands is one of the top 20 defense markets across the world, with a defense budget allocation of US$10.1 billion in 2013. Primarily driven by military modernization programs, and coast guard and internal security the country's defense expenditure is expected to register a CAGR of -0.31% during the period 2014-18. This decrease in spending is expected to be primarily due to the European debt crisis, which will force the Netherlands to cut its defense budget over the forecast period. The country's defense imports and exports recovered in 2012 and are expected to grow over the forecast period, as the country is expected focus on acquiring equipment for maritime security, C2/C4ISR, and homeland security infrastructure. What are the key drivers behind recent market changes? Defense expenditure in the Netherlands is primarily driven by military modernization, joint operations with the police force for the internal security of the country. Military Modernization: Participation of the country's armed forces in peacekeeping initiatives affected the functionality of its defense equipment, especially the condition of the equipment deployed in Afghanistan, such as F-16s, armored vehicles, and helicopters. This has necessitated the need for upgrade or replacement. The MOD has already outlined plans to upgrade its helicopter and armored vehicles fleets, and F-16 fighter aircraft. Webinar - Transport and storage economics of CCS networks in The Netherlands

55:39
From April 2012 -- January 2013, a team from the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, CATO-2 (the Dutch national R&D programme on CCS) and the Clinton Climate Initiative, developed a financial model to assess the economics of alternative CO2 transport and storage options in the North Sea, based on common user infrastructure. A steering group of major emitters with advanced plans for CCS in the Netherlands and Belgium guided the project and were the primary recipients of the analysis, aiming to support the necessary strategic dialogue between stakeholders developing CCS projects in the region. Although the work was focused on potential projects in the Netherlands (Rotterdam and Eemshaven) and Belgium (Antwerp) in the short to medium term, the analysis and lessons could be useful to other regions considering CO2 network solutions. In addition to the knowledge sharing report, a simple financial model based on public data has been made available for use elsewhere in the world. The Global CCS Institute webinar that was held on Tuesday 4th June examined how the project was set up, the key lessons from the analysis and the steering group's recommendations for near-term action to address the issues raised by this project. The webinar also provided practical advice for other regions looking to replicate the analysis.

euronews reporter - The Dutch face austerity

09:22
http://www.euronews.com/ The economic and financial crisis has overthrown governments all-over Europe. In the Netherlands, the political parties have clashed over austerity measures. And while the outgoing government increases the retirement age and VAT, the Dutch are becoming ever more disillusioned... Danny, a construction worker from Rotterdam is the latest victim of the economic crisis after he was recently laid off. With a family to support and austerity measures looming on the horizon, the future is looking distinctly gloomy. His friend, Folkert, was in the same situation four years ago, when the first ripples of the worldwide financial crisis were being felt. Rather than let his situation get the better of him, Folkert decided to work for himself. Now he revels in the freedom of being self-employed. He can take holidays when he wants, negotiate his own pay and answers only to himself -the only downside is actually finding the work. Folkert de Hoop explains: "It is very difficult to find work in Holland now. I come from the north and for me it's about 150 miles to get here." Danny Blankespoor adds: "My situation is that I was fired so I still have six weeks of work left but after that I'm unemployed." Folkert de Hoop: "I don't like it: the age that we have to stop working (for retirement) is 67 and in Greece it is 55." Danny Blankespoor: "Something has to be done about everything it can not go on like this. Going back to the guilder would sound great." Folkert de Hoop: "Maybe it would be good for the euro-zone to separate the poor countries from the richer countries to get better value from it because now the rich countries are little by little going down and that is not good." It is little wonder construction is suffering when you take into account that 15 per cent of all office buildings in the country are empty. In some areas, 50 per cent stand vacant. Tax incentives on mortgages initially lured families onto the real estate market. House prices rose year on year but then the bubble burst and property values plummeted. Private debt in the Netherlands breaks all European records and in spring, many feared the budget deficit could get out of control. The centre-right wing government has reacted by implementing severe budget cuts. An unpopular move met with some resistance but a job well done for others. Jan Kees de Jager, Dutch Finance Minister, talks to euronews about what he hopes to achieve: "We have put through the austerity measures, we are making all the necessary measures to show the whole world, all parts of the world, that the Netherlands is still an austere country." In Rotterdam Harbour, we meet John, a jobless skipper, and his daughter Stephanie. She should have her mate's licence next year, keeping up the sailing tradition which has been in her family for four generations. The Netherlands is facing the gusts of an anti-Euro storm as the tone of the far right and the far left is decidedly eurosceptic. John and Stephanie are members of the Dutch 'Socialist Party' and they believe the euro is to blame for their lives going off course. John de Waard says: "The reason for the crisis is obviously the introduction of the euro. Today, the Netherlands is helping all these other countries, amongst them is Greece and obviously we're paying quite a lot for them. That's really bad for our country and that's why we are in this crisis." John lives on 722 euros a month while Stephanie gets around 695 euros. A relatively low amount when you consider the high cost of living in Rotterdam and the government's austerity package means even choppier waters are afoot. Stephanie still lives at home, which means the calculations for their social security allocations will change meaning less money for both of them. John's home is surrounded by paintings of 'his ships' and at a time when VAT, the pension age; utility bills and medical care are all on the rise, it's easy to understand his nostalgia for 'the good old days'. John de Waard continues: "Individual contributions - for medical care and such will increase in a dramatic way: Today I have to pay 246 euros a month, which will go up to 400 euros and as a result, food banks; where you get free food, are becoming increasingly popular. We'll all will end up there." Stephanie de Waard, John's daughter, believes things have changed as a result of the euro: "I think since the European currency, since the euro, everything has become a lot more expensive. All the prices have doubled, or worse." John de Waard, Unemployed: "At the time when I started sailing, a sailor tattoo cost me 5 euros, now it costs 150 euros!" Fraud Psyop! Dutch Elite Whistleblower (Not-a) Banker Tells All

20:39
Ronald (1962) is an analyst, inspirator and entrepreneur. His background is economics, psychology, architecture and theology. As an independent, he worked 25 years in various branches. In the financial sector, it was asset management, currency and deposit. He is a child at home in many EU countries and is in control of all life. As initiator, he has been setting up a cooperative fairtrade transition bank since 2011. Thus, there is a silent unstoppable cooperative (r) evolution from society. Alt. news media, though the guy has zero banking credentials, no bio, no history of his "eliteness" and blames the Jews and the Protestants for owning the world and practicing Luciferian principles. The likelihood is that this is just another Jesuit psyop as this video was admittedly originally released by a former CIA spy and and Alex Jones guest. Hmmm. Vid Credits: note time of video is 13:13~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NagYge8fSJM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAxZDbLY8lc&t=6s Protocol of Zion, a Jesuit Creation There are many examples of how the Jesuits created the document to blame the Jews. Growing a DSL for financial calculations – Jan Ouwens

27:33
Rabobank is a Dutch multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Utrecht, the Netherlands. One of their services is providing mortgage loans. Determining the height of the loans involves some rather complex calculations. They were struggling to represent these calculations in an understandable and reliably testable way for both domain experts and developers. We helped them develop an internal DSL in Scala that allows them to express these complex calculations in an idiomatic way that is not just easy to read for both developers and business analysts, but more testable as well. Harnessing functional programming principles and the strong Scala compiler, it also provides full typesafety with a syntax that lies very close to human language, allowing fully typesafe constructs such as 'amount per month' and 'amount per year'. In this talk, I will explain the concepts behind the DSL, how we implemented them without adding any dependencies to the project (except ScalaTest, of course), and the design decisions we had to make along the way. * Material * Code: https://github.com/scala-rules/finance-dsl * Event * Typelevel Summit Oslo, May 2016: http://typelevel.org/event/2016-05-summit-oslo/ * About Speaker * Jan Ouwens is a Scala developer at Codestar and has worked and experimented with Scala and Akka for the past five years. He has worked on a wide variety of projects over the years in the fields of service management, electron microscopes, banking, and the operation of trains. He has a polyglot mindset, having worked with a wide variety of languages such as Java, C#, Jess/Clips and yes, even VBscript. Jan is also the creator of EqualsVerifier (https://github.com/jqno/equalsverifier). * Licensing * This recording is licensed under CC-BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).

Ocean Cleanup System 2016 - Netherlands

00:50
This is the prototype of the ocean cleanup system that will be cleaning up the oceans in 2020, the system will be tested on the North Sea to discover its sea worthiness and source out any problems with the plastic containment system. THE HAGUE, June 8, 2016 – The Ocean Cleanup, the Dutch foundation developing advanced technologies to rid the oceans of plastic, announces that it has successfully secured the funding required for its North Sea prototype test, which will start early summer 2016. Manufacturing, deployment and testing of the North Sea prototype is budgeted at EUR 1.5 million, a third of which is contributed by world-renowned dredging and marine contractor Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis). The Government of The Netherlands, through the ministries of Infrastructure & the Environment and Economic Affairs, has committed to contributing another EUR 0.5 million. The remainder of the funding has been pledged by an anonymous philanthropist. The North Sea prototype is an important step towards the world’s first deployment of an ocean cleanup system, and will be the first test of the design at sea. The prototype spans 100 m and will be deployed in the Dutch North Sea, 23 km / 12 NM off the coast of Scheveningen harbor – The Hague for one year. The objective of the test is to monitor and analyze behavior of a floating barrier segment in all weather conditions, including gale force winds and waves. By 2020, The Ocean Cleanup aims to deploy a 100 km-long structure between Hawaii and California. Analysis suggests this array will be able to clean up about half the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in ten years’ time. The system makes use of very long floating barriers, which act as an artificial coastline, passively collecting and concentrating the ocean trash, powered by the natural ocean currents. Boyan Slat, CEO and founder of The Ocean Cleanup, said: “Making sure the floating barriers are able to withstand the harshest of conditions is fundamental to the success of our mission. I am grateful to our supporters for enabling us to perform these critical sea trials. It is this kind of support which is crucial in our preparation for the largest cleanup in history.” Sharon Dijksma, Minister for the Environment, said: “Boyan proves that innovations for tackling environmental problems and entrepreneurship go well together. The Dutch government therefore shows its full commitment by giving this financial contribution to the Ocean Cleanup’s prototype.” Peter Berdowski, CEO of Boskalis, said: “I am very pleased to see that, with our support through the transportation and installation of the North Sea prototype test, Boskalis can contribute to the success of The Ocean Cleanup. As Boskalis, we aim to create new horizons for stakeholders around the world. Our support of this prototype test will help The Ocean Cleanup to bring the perspective of a plastics-free ocean one step closer.” The North Sea prototype, along with the details of the test, will be unveiled at a press conference in Scheveningen harbor – The Hague on June 22, 2016.
