5 Steps to Build a Mutual Fund Retirement Portfolio

03:21
With mutual fund investments made over time, you can create a portfolio of investments for retirement. But how do you create a mutual fund portfolio for retirement? Here's a primer. Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQTqvgT_qzPZn1D1bHsxtKw?sub_confirmation=1 Share Video: https://youtu.be/JUGsyFqE6iI Visit YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/FundooMoneyWorld Welcome to FundooMoney, your 24X7 buddy for all your money matters! Mutual funds, especially equity funds which invest your money in equities, can play a great role in helping you accumulate ample retirement savings. This is because equities typically provide high growth for your money over the long term i.e. over 8-10 years or more. To harness the advantage of mutual funds, you need to invest in a combination of mutual funds or create a mutual fund portfolio. In a short while, we will tell you about the major steps required in creating and maintaining a mutual fund portfolio earmarked for retirement. Here are 5 steps to creating a mutual fund portfolio for retirement Step 1 Calculate your needs Calculate the retirement savings you need. You can use online retirement calculators or get a financial advisor to help you. Needless to say, this figure will need to factor in inflation over time since inflation will corrode the purchasing power of your retirement savings. With an annual inflation rate of 7 per cent, the purchasing power of your money comes down by almost 50 per cent in just 10 years. Step 2 Plan your investment With a target in hand, you need to start making regular investments. As we have mentioned, a significant amount, if not all of your investments, will need to be in equities in order to benefit from the long term growth they provide over 8-10 years or more. This makes it perfect for retirement investments since you invest over two decades if you start early in work life. Step 3 Zero down on mutual fund schemes You can begin with a tax saving equity linked savings scheme (ELSS) where you not only get tax deduction of upto Rs 1.5 lakh annually but also get to make equity investments for retirement. This could be the first step. You can follow this with investments in diversified equity funds as your income increases. You may also invest in mutual fund retirement plans offered by fund houses. In all cases, choose schemes with a proven performance track record over one, three and five years. Step 4 Build a diversified portfolio Invest in 2-3 equity schemes to diversify your retirement portfolio. Diversification reduces risk associated with a particular scheme and its investment strategy, among other things. Keep on the lookout for new investment opportunities. Step 5 Keep a track of investments Review your portfolio at least once in a year. Switch to other equity funds if there is consistent underperformance of any scheme over 18-24 months compared to its benchmarks and peers We hope you found this useful. How to Retire Early: The Shockingly Simple Math

03:43
Enroll in our Personal Finance Masterclass for just $10: https://www.videoschoolonline.com/YTFinance How to retire early - let's break down the steps to early retirement. Take a premium course at http://www.videoschoolonline.com/course-library/ This video shows you how to retire early with shockingly simple math. I've been a personal finance nerd for a while, and the idea of early retirement is really interesting. I'm a huge fan of Mr. Money Mustache who wrote a great article on the shockingly simple math behind early retirement. Since I make videos, I wanted to take his theories and break them down into a digestible video. I hope you enjoy! And like I say in the video, please like and share this video, then leave a comment. What do you think? Is this amazing or crazy? What is your savings rate? What other personal finance questions do you have? I credit a lot of this work/theory to Mr Money Mustache. Read his full article about it here (http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/01/13/the-shockingly-simple-math-behind-early-retirement/). Also, check out this cool early retirement calculator (https://networthify.com/calculator/earlyretirement?income=50000&initialBalance=0&expenses=17000&annualPct=5&withdrawalRate=4) Script: Hi, my name is Phil. I’m a video creator and online instructor. I’m also a personal finance nerd. Because of that, I want to create a series of videos that breaks down some of the most mystifying topics that plague our society. In a world where people’s finances are typically locked away and not-talked about, I believe opening up the gates of financial conversation will help everyone live a better and smarter life. In this first video, I want to explain the shockingly simple math behind early retirement - thanks to one of my biggest heroes, Mr Money Mustache. While the ability to retire may seem like a distant and unreachable goal for many, the premise comes down to one thing. You need to invest money so that it earns more money. This could be investing in stocks or bonds, real estate, or any other of investment vehicles. As soon as your investments earn enough money for you to live on each year, you are able to retire. Let’s break it down further to know when you can retire. The most important concept is knowing your savings rate, basically how much you make minus your expenses. If you spend 100% of your income, you will never retire… because you will never be able to invest any money that earns money for retirement. If you spend 0% of your income, you can retire right now… because somehow you are living without needing to make any more money. Between 0% and 100% are a number of savings rates that correlate with the years it will take to retire. For this, let’s assume your annual investment return is 5% (which is conservatively low) and your withdrawal rate is 4%… meaning you spend 4% of your net worth each year. For example, if you have a $1,000,000 net worth, and you live on $40,000. If your savings rate is 10%, you will be able to safely retire after 51.4 years. Safely, meaning you will never run out of money. If your savings rate is 25%, you can retire in 31.9 years. 50%, you can retire in 16.6 years. And if you can somehow save 75% of your income, you can retire in 7.1 years. Now getting to that savings rate might not be easy in our world of societal pressures, keeping up with the Joneses, and bad habits. But you can get closer by making smart decisions, avoiding debt, and living simply. The key take away is… Cutting your spending rate is way more powerful than increasing your income because no matter how much money you make, decreasing your spending will speed up the process. A note, The math behind early retirement works if you are working a minimum wage job or a 7-figure CEO salary. It’s all about the savings rate. So if you want to retire in 10 years, the math tells us that you need to save 66% of your income. Now there is a lot that I didn’t talk about - like how to invest, and how to cut expenses to get to a high savings rate. Those will come in a future video. For now, get excited about the honest truth about retirement (and early retirement at that!)! Let me know what you think in the comments below? Is this exciting or bogus? Until next time… start being money smart. Please subscribe to the channel and leave a comment below! The biggest mistake people make with their retirement portfolio

02:14
The obvious answer would be spending too much, but that's not it. Many investors make radical changes to their portfolio because of market volatility. Colleen Jaconetti from Vanguard's Investment Strategy Group says to stick with your investment plan and spend from capital appreciation if necessary. *All investing is subject to risk, including the possible loss of the money you invest. For more information about Vanguard funds, visit vanguard.com or call 877-662-7447 to obtain a prospectus. Passive Investing: The Evidence the Fund Management Industry Would Prefer You Not to See

53:54
http://sensibleinvesting.tv -- the independent voice of passive investing A remarkable 54-minute film featuring some of the world's top economists and academics and demonstrating: * how the claims of active fund managers to be able to beat the market are largely a myth * how costs are the biggest drag on performance - and why active costs more * how passive investing offers the best experience for the vast majority of investors * the benefits of a diversified portfolio in guaranteeing consistent returns * why passive investing is better for your health * why active investing has held sway for so many years.... * ... but why things may be changing * and why passive is the rational, mathematically proven route to investing success. Investing for the future... It's an issue none of can afford to ignore. No one's job is safe these days... How would you cope if you lost yours? We're all living longer too... So are you saving enough to fund 25 years or more of retirement? Can you really afford to pay for your children or grandchildren to go to university - or help them onto the property ladder? And what about all those holidays you promised yourself? We entrust the vast bulk of our investments to fund managers. Here in the UK, according to Her Majesty's Treasury, the industry has more than four TRILLION pounds of investors' money under management. Fund managers invest people's savings wherever they see fit - mainly in equities, or shares in listed companies. They claim to be experts at making our making grow, using their expert knowledge to pick the shares that will outperform the market. But all too often the returns they produce are considerably lower than the average return of a benchmark index like the FTSE 100 - or the S&P 500 in the States. For veteran investment guru John Bogle, the problem is simple. Fund managers just aren't as smart as they like to think they are. As it means trading against the view of numerous market participants with superior information, buying or selling a security is effectively just a bet. So, whilst your fund manager might lead you to believe it's his knowledge or intelligence that enables you to beat the market, he's really no better than a gambler. So, you might be lucky enough to choose the right fund manager. But you could just as easily pick the wrong one. According to the financial services company Bestinvest, there are currently nearly £10 billion of UK investors' money languishing in what it calls dog funds - in other words, funds which have underperperformed their benchmark index for at least three consecutive years. Ultimately, of course, fund managers are businesses. They exist to make money for themselves. They want our business - even if it means persuading us to invest in a fund which they themselves wouldn't want to put their own money in. It's now time to look at what it actually costs us to invest. Fund managers are, of course, businesses. And, like all business, they have overheads. Running a big fund management company doesn't come cheap - esepcially when top managers earn around £2 million a year, including bonuses. And remember, it's you, the customer, who picks up the tab. Ultimately, though, fund managers need to make a profit. In fact they'e making around £10 billion from us every year - and that's regardless of whether or not they manage to produce a profit for us. Part of the challenge is working out exactly what we are being charged. Investors typically use something called the annual Total Expense Ratio, or TER, to compare the cost of investing in different funds. But, the TER excludes dealing commission, stamp duty and other turnover costs that can add considerably to the expense of investing over time. So, apart from those hidden charges, what else are we having to pay? More importantly, what sort of impact do charges have on the value of our investments? And the bad news doesn't stop there. Despite a marked increase in competition, management charges in the UK have been steadily rising over the last ten years. There are some encouraging signs for consumers. The FSA's Retail Distribution Review will require fund managers to be fairer and more transparent when it comes to charges. In the meantime, investors should be on their guard. Episode 5 - Investing through retirement - Vanguard

02:35
Investing in a Vanguard target-date investment doesn't stop at the target date. Vanguard's target-date investments continue to invest through retirement by maintaining an equity position (stocks). Find out what happens when a Vanguard target-date investment reaches it's target date by tuning into this episode of Target date: Now. All investing is subject to risk. Investments in Target Retirement Funds are subject to the risks of their underlying funds. The year in the Fund name refers to the approximate year (the target date) when an investor in the Fund would retire and leave the work force. The Fund will gradually shift its emphasis from more aggressive investments to more conservative ones based on its target date. An investment in the Target Retirement Fund is not guaranteed at any time, including on or after the target date. Diversification does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss in a declining market. Investing 401k Funds After Retirement

03:32
There are a few different factors that go into how you will invest your 401k funds after retirement. To download the free 401(k) Rollover 10-Point Checklist go to http://retirementplanningmadeeasy.com/401krollover Your 2 big options are: 1. Leave your funds at your old employer 2. Rollover your 401k into an IRA If you leave your funds at your old employer, be sure to check the partial distributions rule. They may not allow partial distributions. In other words, if you want to make a withdrawal after retirement you may have to take the whole amount out. Check with your plan to know its rules. Even if you don't roll over your 401k funds after retirement, you still need to know your risk tolerance and time horizon for your investment. You then need to align your investments within the 401k to meet your risk tolerance and retirement goals. You don't want to be too aggressively invested if you can't handle the large market swings that come with more aggressive funds. Under option 2, you can roll your 401k into an IRA. You will have more investing options and better beneficiary options this way. You will need to understand your risk tolerance and time horizon for this investment. You then need to match up your investments to meet those retirement goals. Some 401k investing tips after retirement: 1. You will probably be more conservative with your IRA and 401k investments after you retire. 2. After you retire, this is money you cannot replace. 3. Your IRA / 401k must last you throughout your retirement. 4. Have an investment plan in place for how you invest your 401k funds and your IRA funds. To download the free 401(k) Rollover 10-Point Checklist go to http://retirementplanningmadeeasy.com/401krollover And be sure to check out more videos / articles and retirement information at http://retirementplanningmadeeasy.com/ Disclosures: Investment Advisory Services offered through Retirement Wealth Advisors Inc.
