Ion-exchange resin
An ion-exchange resin or ion-exchange polymer is an insoluble matrix normally in the form of small beads, usually white or yellowish, fabricated from an organic polymer substrate. The beads are typically porous, providing a high surface area. The trapping of ions occurs with the accompanying releasing of other ions; thus the process is called ion-exchange. There are multiple types of ion-exchange resin. Most commercial resins are made of polystyrene sulfonate. Ion-exchange resins are widely used in different separation, purification, and decontamination processes. The most common examples are water softening and water purification. In many cases ion-exchange resins were introduced in such processes as a more flexible alternative to the use of natural or artificial zeolites. Also, ion exchange resins are highly effective in the biodiesel filtration process. This video is targeted to blind users. How an ion exchange water softener works.
This application uses two tanks: one with special resin beads and the other filled with brine. It works on the principle of ion exchange, softening hard water by substituting sodium (salt) for hard minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron.

DM plant demineralize system by ion exchange resins
DM Plant – De Mineralize, works on ion exchange process, we use ion exchange resins for this process. DM reduces electrical conductivity by removing minerals like calcium, magnesium, Sodium, potassium, chlorides, nitrates, sulphates and silica from water. There are three stages in DM Plant, Cation Column, Anion Column and Mixed Bed Column. Cation and Anion Columns are called Two Bed DM Plant. Mixed Bed Column is called Mixed Bed DM Plant. Two bed DM Plant brings down electrical conductivity to less than 30 micron Siemens and the ph would be in between 8 to 10. Mixed bed DM Plant works as polisher. The output water of Mixed is called pure water, it contains less than 1 micro Siemens electrical conductivity and ph will neutral (6.8 to 7.2). We have two companies in India, who manufactures ion exchange resins. One is Ion exchange India, other is Thermax. We manufacture, DM Plant in FRP Body and MSRL(Mild Steel Rubber Lined). We have portable DM Plants, and Industrial DM Plants. We provide Online Conductivity and Ph meters along with DM Plant to monitor water quality. Hydrochloric Acid (hcl) is used to regenerate cation ion exchange Resin. Sodium hydroxide (i.e Caustic soda flakes) used to regenerate anion exchange resin. Water Softener Regeneration Process
Look INSIDE a real-life water softener to better understand the regeneration process! Water softeners use ion exchange to remove hardness ions (i.e., calcium and magnesium) from water for boiler makeup, process waters, cooling systems, and more. As the water softener nears exhaustion, it must be regenerated so it can continue softening more water. This one-of-a-kind video visually shows you this process step by step. Microfilter introduces new resin filters to European market
http://www.foodbev.com -- Microfilter, a sister company of MCM Fittings and member of Chungho Nais Group, has introduced a new range of IEN(ion Exchange Resin) filters to the European market. Jim Redford spoke with FoodBev Media's Darren Wood about the problems that can occur with using normal types of Ion Exchange resin filters, this being that feed water can drop in PH value quite significantly. The Microfilter IEN range of filters have a special blend of resins that combat PH drop in water whilst also removing scale causing calcium. This range of water filters have a built in 30% water By-pass for blending of water for taste, creating the perfect water for coffee and tea making in vending machines.

How To Replace Your Water Softener Resin, Media, Beads
This is easy to do yourself. I used Nelson Cation Resin which is a standard high-capacity, high purity, 8% crosslink mesh. And yes, this will treat water with iron in it. Remember however, that over time iron will foul resin and can reduce flow rate. I found the best price at water-softeners-filters.com. Please subscribe, like and comment. Our high-quality resin is also resistant to chlorination, unlike most water softeners, which have a cheaper resin that chlorine will destroy. In addition to the high-quality softening resin and tannic acid resin (otherwise known as carbon), we also incorporate a UV/Temperature protective jacket. This keeps the mineral tank from being destroyed and protects against algae build-up. In addition, we can customize this system to fit those on city water as well as those with a well water supply… If you are on city water, we will install a high grade of carbon to remove chlorine and chloramines, in addition to heavy metals such as lead and mercury. Also, our efficient city water systems meter the water flow so that you can save money on your salt and water usage. If you are on well water, we can set up your system to remove tannic acid, which typically comes from tree roots and rotten vegetation. Although tannic acid can appear to be just iron the difference between the two is that tannic acid appears with a brownish-yellow color, whereas iron usually has an orange appearance. Be sure to have one of our experts do a complete analysis to determine what problems you may have. Why Do I Need It? Cleaning With Ease Typically the hard minerals that are in your water react with soap in a bad way, which forces you to use more soap or detergent. Soft water will result in less soap scum; therefore making it easier to maintain a clean bathroom, shower, and bathtub. Also due to washing with those hard minerals, your clothes and dishes may have obtained white spots, streaks, or a soapy residue on them. This being another issue that can easily be remedied through this beneficial water system. Prevent Scale In Plumbing Maybe one of the most important parts of soft water is the reduction of scale in your plumbing. Calcium minerals can build up after years of use and reduce the flow of water in your home. Cleaning this scale out can be time-consuming and expensive, which is no longer a worry with the Ion Exchange. Extended Appliance Life Just like scale build-up in your plumbing, these minerals will also build up in your appliances such as your dishwasher, clothes, washing machine, and even water heater. This build-up can cause your appliances to malfunction, lose efficiency, or at worst, cause the entire unit not to work at all. This can really delay your normal daily routines, whereas the latter is to get the most out of your household appliances as well as your water supply! System Maintenance Water treatment equipment, just like your automobile, requires periodic maintenance. Florida Water Analysis offers free annual inspections on all its customers equipment. To keep your equipment running like new, be sure to have our company test and inspect your equipment at least once a year. Anion Exchange Chromatography (GFP Purification part 2 of 6)
The Purification process begins as the transfer tank of clarified lysate from the Recovery process is connected to the inlet pump on the Chromatography skid. The first Chromatography step in our GFP purification process is Anion-Exchange. At this point in the process, the pH of the clarified lysate is about eight-point-zero, which means that the protein is negatively charged. Because it is negatively charged, GFP will bind to the positively charged anion exchange resin. The pump draws the lysate from the vessel...past the first conductivity sensor and pressure sensor...and through the zero-point-four-five micron pre-filter. The pre-filter removes any residual cell debris or other particulates that may have contaminated the solution. If the pre-filter begins to clog, the pressure sensor at the inlet side of the filter will register a rising pressure...and the controller will signal the need for a filter change. After pre-filtering and before the column, the lysate passes through a flow meter... and an air sensor. Then, as the lysate passes over the resin beads, the negatively charged protein attaches to the positively charged beads. The solution leaving the column passes a UV optical density sensor, a conductivity sensor and a pH sensor. The optical density sensor's low readings confirm that the GFP is not in the solution, so the outlet valve sends the solution to waste.

Ion Exchange Resins Know How
The Video explane how to proper use ion exchange resins for laboratory tests. http://www.rfpconsulting.it/
How does a water softener work? Find out in this video! The water that you use every day can be hard on both you and your house. Using a water softening system helps reduce water contaminants and scale buildup, and also extends the life of your appliances. The main disadvantages of hard water are: It can leave a film of soap scum on your dishes and bathroom fixtures It can an cause mineral build-up in pipes and appliances It can reduce the efficiency of heating elements in water heaters It can promote corrosion It reduces the lather of soap and shampoo during showers It makes laundry feel stiffer and look less vibrant Water is considered hard when it contains large amounts of dissolved calcium, magnesium, iron and other minerals. Water hardness is measured in milligrams per liter. Soft water has a hardness range of less than 17 mg/L. Hard water comes in at 121 to over 180 mg/L. You can have your tap water analyzed in a lab, but there are visual signs that your tap water is hard. It can leave soap scum behind on sinks and bath tubs, form scale in washing machines, dishwashers, coffee makers, humidifiers, water heaters, etc. That’s where water softeners come into play. They are ion exchange systems, meaning the hardness ions (calcium and magnesium) are exchanged for salt ions. The exchange takes place in a resin tank of the water softener system. Water flows through the resin and comes in contact with the small resin beads which are covered with salt ions, and hardness ions trade places with salt ions. Think of the resin as a magnetic sponge that traps the metals found in hard water. The only maintenance required is to recharge the resin beads by adding bags of salt to the brine tank. This washing system reverses the process meaning that the hardness ions swap places with the salt ions in the brine tank and excess minerals are rinsed into the wastewater drain. In my case, we are two adults living in our house and we use approximately 2 bags of salt per month (at 8$ a bag) for a yearly maintenance cost of 128$. Costs vary depending on how many people live in the house, how much water is consumed and the water hardness level in your home. The main advantages to a water softening system are: Lower energy consumption by reducing scale build-up in water heaters You can reduce the amount of soap you need to create lather Extend the lifetime of plumbing Silkier feel of water when washing Softer clothes after washing Welcome to Pan TheOrganizer, a Youtube channel designed to help people improve different aspects of their lives through fun and entertaining videos! Can Brita Water Filters be Hacked - How Brita works
See the science behind the materials in the Brita water filter; there is more to it than you might think. Can you hack a water filter? Is it worth trying to save some money by refilling a filter instead of buying a replacement? I answer these questions and more in this video about hacking a Brita water pitcher filter. You will also see some greatly magnified images of the material inside a Brita filter. Wait til you see the blow up of the ion exchange resin beads! Oh, and did I mention that there is silver inside? The silver has a very special job to do too! This video builds on the "Inside a Brita Water Filter - a filter autopsy" video which can be found at this link: https://youtu.be/iQ58vjcgFdw I feel it is important to point out that pitcher filter systems like this one are not intended to be water purification systems but rather a means to optimize your tap water. If you have concerns about potentially dangerous impurities in your water then you should seek a different solution immediately. Note: this filter contains a unique type of activated carbon (aka activated charcoal) as well as an Ion Exchange Resin. Together these ingredients reduce water hardness, odor, poor flavor, some bacteria as well as some heavy metals. Please understand that reduction does not mean elimination!

LiquaGen 2 Cubic Feet of Water Softening Ion Exchange Resin Cation Resin Loading Funnel review
50% OFF this product check http://watersoftener.50-off.com LiquaGen 2 Cubic Feet of Water Softening Ion Exchange Resin Cation Resin Loading Funnel evaluation Block salt water softeners are the smallest on the market and can fit into most kitchens, but can be installed in a variety of locations including in utility rooms, on a shelf, or even outside in a frost-proof cabinet. A traveling businessman living alone, using a limited amount of water each day will not require the same water softening system as a family of four taking frequent baths and creating several loads of laundry each week. Hard water is simply water that is rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium carbonate, and manganese. These water softeners come with a 3 year parts guarantee and a 1 year labour guarantee. Twin cylinder models are meter controlled and regenerate on demand (which takes around 10 minutes) so that you have an uninterrupted supply of soft water. Homes with higher water usage benefit from a softener with greater filtering capacity in order to enjoy softened water without interruption. This helps establish how much, on average, your household uses per day. First, to correctly size your softener, you’ll need to know how much hardness it will need to remove each day. The general consensus is that this type of water treatment is better than no water softener at all, but not as effective as conventional water softening. In any case, we advise you not to buy a device which is too small: make sure that the flow capacity is at least 3 m³/h and choose a water softener with a sufficiently large exchange capacity (the length of time the device can operate without having to regenerate). All the softener salts of the SOFT-SEL range (salt crystals, softener salt tablets, granular softener salts) comply with the European standard 973 type A, meaning that they are of the highest possible purity. On a side note this LiquaGen 2 Cubic Feet of Water Softening Ion Exchange Resin Cation Resin Loading Funnel is the best in the place. A salt-free water softener regenerates with a potassium-chloride salt substitute rather than sodium. If you find that soap and shampoo don’t lather well, dishes have spots, the bathtub has a ring, laundry looks dingy, and the coffee maker has scale deposits, your home probably has a hard water problem. A water softener (often misspelled “water softner“) solves hard water problems. Single cylinder water softeners regenerate at 2am to ensure that you have soft water at peak times. If you don’t have this information readily available, you can also use a simple formula: number of people in your household x 75 gallons per day. These water softeners come with at least a 2 year guarantee, while some have 10 year guarantees. By far the most popular and commonly used type of whole-house water softener is an ion-exchange or “cation exchange” unit, but a couple of other technologies are also available. This type of unit may be a better option for people who are concerned about salt intake. Naturally, you also need to check what kind of salt you can use. Then, multiply that number by the grains of hardness in your water for a fairly accurate number of grains of hardness your softener will need to remove each day. To calculate your home’s daily softening requirement, multiply the number of people in your household by your home’s average daily consumption of water (in gallons). This is determined by your home’s daily water usage as well as the level of hardness of your tap water. It was our review of the LiquaGen 2 Cubic Feet of Water Softening Ion Exchange Resin Cation Resin Loading Funnel.

Breville 870XL Filter Tear Down
Breville espresso machine water filter tear down and a "too small filter" hack. The filters I ordered: - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HN0277E Last year, I got the proper size, this time I got the smaller ones, so there appears to be a supply problem with this vendor. They have an update from July 2015 saying to ignore the "too small" reviews, but that's about the time I ordered mine (June 2015). These same water filters work with the following Breville models: BKC600XL, BKC700XL, BES840XL, BES860XL, BES870XL, BES900XL, BES920XL and BES980XL. I made a simple adapter out of one of the original large filters to insert the smaller ones into and I think this should work fine. It'll keep the filter centered over the water outlet. I can then rinse out that outer filter and insert a new small filter every 2 months. Pretty interesting contents of the filter. The product listing says its a carbon filter, other places list resin. It appears to be some of each. There is a large quantity of round ion exchange resin spheres and then a bit of carbon granules that must dissolve over time. A new filter appears to be filled completely while a used filter is only about half full. Stay tuned for a follow up video looking more closely at the ion exchange resin and its interesting optical properties: https://youtu.be/xPlDFaWllZs My filter replacement video: https://youtu.be/rXRPbLBRu_c If anyone has a used Breville filter that they are otherwise going to throw out, contact me via a PM, I'd like to open one up to see if they are the same.

Bio-Chem Zorb Instructional Video
Bio-Chem Zorb is composed of two organic scavenger resins and two ion-exchange resins, combined with a high-porosity activated carbon. Together, they remove synthetic chemicals, naturally occurring organic pollutants and metabolic by-products from aquarium water. Bio-Chem Zorb filters water to a level not achievable with carbon alone. Organic Pollutants in the Aquarium: Bacterial decomposition of dead fish and plants, uneaten fish food and solid waste from fish and invertebrates creates organic pollutants in the aquarium. In nature, water currents and tides carry these pollutants away. Aquarium water, however, is changed only periodically. In between changes, organic pollutants can accumulate to harmful levels. Effect of Accumulated Organic Pollutants in the Aquarium: The accumulation of organic pollutants creates a stressful environment and provides a breeding ground for fish pathogens. Some naturally occurring bacteria break down certain organic pollutants. However, this action is often incomplete in an aquarium and uses up oxygen, reducing the amount of oxygen available for fish, invertebrates and the biological filter. Poor water quality ultimately causes suppression of the immune system, leading to disease outbreaks and inhibiting the growth and reproduction of fish and invertebrates. The accumulation of organic pollutants also leads to negative effects such as decreased pH, discolored water, reduced light transmittance and foul odors. Bio-Chem Zorb cleans aquarium water through ion exchange, adsorption and absorption processes. Organic pollutants, toxic heavy metals and aquarium medications are efficiently "sorbed" by organic scavenger resins and high-porosity activated carbon in Bio-Chem Zorb. Using Bio-Chem Zorb In Salt Water: Bio-Chem Zorb is especially useful in removing refractory organics or "yellow water" that form when organic pollutants are not biodegraded. These organic pollutants can reduce the transmittance of light energy necessary for many saltwater invertebrates. With Bio-Chem Zorb, a high redox potential will be easier to maintain. Bio-Chem Zorb is also very effective for removing aquarium medications and treatments. http://www.marinedepot.com/Aquarium_Pharmaceuticals_Bio_Chem_Zorb_10oz_Carbon_Chemical_Filter_Media-Aquarium_Pharmaceuticals_API_MARS_Fishcare-AP2182-FIFMCHCM-AP2181-vi.html
