It had a weak legislative system, uneducated population, rampant corruption, and microscopic salaries. - The country entered the 1970s as a stable state with steady economic growth. And in a couple of decades, an impoverished island-nation turned into a country that was confidently moving toward prosperity. - Nowadays, Singapore has an effective tax system and pension scheme. You see, residents and their employers transfer a part of their income to visible accounts that they can track and monitor at any moment. - The Bukit Ho Swee Fire of 1961 wiped out an area of 4.3 million square feet, turning the homes of 16,000 residents to ash. But all these people got new accommodation within a year. - By 2016, 90% of Singaporeans were living in their own homes. What's more, 80% of these homes were situated in residential units that had been built by the state. - The per capita GDP in Singapore skyrocketed from $500 in 1965 to $14,500 in 1991. That’s a whopping 2,800% in just 26 years! - The Port of Singapore is the second largest in the world. It's connected with 600 other ports in 123 different countries. - Besides being a huge transportation center, Singapore is also a smart city, meaning over 90% of its residents have smartphones. - The little city-state houses a staggering number of sights and entertainment that attract millions of tourists from all over the world. They are responsible for rebuilding and upgrading our lock and dam system, and we are here to talk about what the $10 million dollars is going to do for LaGrange Lock and dam. Stu Ellis Now that obviously is going to lengthen its lifetime, and make sure we can get corn and beans down the river at a cheaper cost. Rodney Davis Absolutely. This is all about a very effective and price effective and also a very environmentally effective way of shipping our products up and down the river out into the global marketplace. And we also have seen the Trump administration working with Republicans in Congress invest another $2 million dollars to update the economic studies to begin the process of updating and upgrading our entire Upper Miss and Illinois River lock and dam systems. Stu Ellis And you’ve got one of your colleagues in Congress, Congressman LaHood, Garry Niemeyer from the Waterways Council, so it is something very important here that should end up to be beneficial to Illinois agriculture Rodney Davis It really is. This is in Congressman LaHood’s District, but it is important to the farmers I represent. This is a big deal for Middle America and for getting products out into the global marketplace. In this module, you will learn about Land Resources, India is the 7th largest country in the world with a geographical area of about 3.28 million sq. km. Out of the total land area of India: 43% is plain 30% is mountains 27% is plateau region Depending on their use, our land resources can be classified as forests, net sown area, fallow land, other uncultivated land and land not available for cultivation. Fallow lands can be further divided into current fallow and other than current fallow. Uncultivated land other than fallow land is divided into permanent pastures, land under miscellaneous tree crops and land left uncultivated for more than five years. Land not available for cultivation is either barren wasteland or land used for non-agricultural purposes. The area under forests is way below the required 33% as planned in the National Forest Policy. The area under permanent pastures and grazing grounds is decreasing. Continuous and indiscriminate use of land resources results in land degradation. Human activity has contributed to and increased the pace of natural land degradation. Deforestation removes the green cover required to prevent soil erosion. Overgrazing by cattle turns permanent pastures into barren land. Indiscriminate deforestation and excavation carried out as part of mining activity also causes land degradation. Disposal of solid and liquid waste by industries on surrounding land or water bodies has also become a major cause of land degradation and water pollution. Some steps for land conservation are: Afforestation Controlled grazing and mining activity Stabilisation of sand dunes. Proper disposal of industrial effluents after treatment Continuous monitoring of soil conditions To watch the complete lesson, register to get 5-day full access for free visit - http://bit.ly/2KbImVd LearnNext is an interactive, computer-based self-learning solution which helps students retain concepts better and perfect them with exhaustive practice and tests. Millions Barrel Of Oil Resources Discovered In pakistan karachi Sea || Breaking News For Pakistan According to the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA), Pakistan may have over 9 billion barrels (1.4×109 cubic metres) of petroleum oil and 105 trillion cubic feet (3.0 trillion cubic metres) in natural gas (including shale gas) reserves. As per BP' Statistical Review of World Energy 2016, at the end of 2015 Pakistan had the following proved reserves of fuels: 0.5 Trillion cu m of natural gas and 2.07 Billion tons of coal (sub-bituminous and lignite).[ Pakistan's first gas field was found in the late 1952 in Balochistan near a giant Sui gas field. The Toot oil field was not discovered until the early 1960s in the Punjab. The Most Rich resource in Khaur Company (Attock). It covers 122.67 square kilometres (47.36 sq mi). Pakistan Petroleum and Pakistan Oilfields explored and began drilling these field with Soviet help in 1961 and activity began in Toot during 1964.[ Coal was first discovered across Pakistan and the rest of South Asia in the 1880s and was used by the British-owned railway companies under colonial rule. Later, post-colonial Pakistan had used coal to fuel its industry from independence to the discovery of the Baluchistan's Sui gas field in 1952 and the Toot oilfield in 1964. Environmentalists are now concerned that Pakistan has recently discovered one low and four low to medium quality coal seams in the Punjab and plans to re-fuel its economically important cement industry with it after their oil fields have run dry. Low sulfur coal was recently reported to have been found at the Baluchistan near Quetta as well. There are reports that low a sulfur deposit has been found near Islamabad. Sindh's Thar desert lignite mines will also be expanded soon for industrial usage too. This Thar's mine is open-cut mine. These mines are relatively safer to mine from. While Baluchistan's mines are underground mines, these are dangerous to mine from. Pakistan Baluchistan's mines have seen several accidents over the years among which the one which happened in 2011 was with the greatest number of casualties. According to one news paper the death toll rose up to 45, though majority agree upon that it ranged from 40-45 people. Special measures are being employed to reduce the resulting fly ash, carbon footprint and sulphur fume emission problems after it is burnt. The Wahi Pandi, Karunuk (Sehwan), and Rehman Dhora (Aamri) mines in the, Kirthar Range, Sindh and the Shanawah Deposit, Karak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province are being opened up to meet Pakistan's rising need for uranium, which these sources are issuing at an ore grade: 0.04% Uranium mineral purity rate. The Baghalchur site has several abandoned mines and is now being used as an industrial dumping ground. Baghalchur is a small town in Dera Ghazi Khan District, Punjab, Pakistan. Baghalchur is the site of abandoned Uranium mines now being used as a nuclear dump. The residents of the area along with several Pakistani environmentalist groups are opposed to the nuclear dump being used by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and have asked the government to invest in better techniques in the disposal of nuclear waste materials.

Prof. Paul Collier advises how Africa should benefit from mineral, oil and gas extraction. The current high prices for minerals, oil and gas offer an opportunity for resource-rich countries in Africa to transform their economies and thereby the lives of its people. Yet this 'golden opportunity' can be ruined by corruption, environmental degradation and mismanagement, with benefits limited to a lucky few. What policies do governments need to have in place for the responsible exploitation of minerals, oil and gas? How can African economies prepare themselves to manage new found wealth? How can governments invest and save for future generations? How should exploration rights be valued and extraction companies taxed? Professor Paul Collier explained his strategy for stimulating economic growth in developing countries through selling natural resources such as minerals, oil and gas at an event hosted in Tanzania by UONGOZI Institute on 20 February 2012 The Institute of African Leadership for Sustainable Development, commonly known as UONGOZI Institute, offers training, discussions and resources on leadership, executive management and strategic thinking to leaders in Africa engaged in sustainable development.

The project is part of the priority framework of the Lao government to strengthen human resources development through improvements to the education system, especially by improving students' learning capacity to meet national, regional and international standards. Over the past year, the government of Japan has continued to provide Official Development Assistance to develop Laos in many areas, including basic infrastructure, education, health, agriculture and other related fields. This assistance has contributed to the 8th five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2016-2020, which was accepted during the 10th Party Congress held earlier this year. Mr Hikihara said “I strongly believe that this project will continue to contribute to socio-economic and human resource development in Laos to accelerate the socio-economic development of Laos and improve standards of living for all Lao people.” Human resources are the foundation of nation-building. For socio-economic development, the importance of human resource development cannot be over-emphasised, the ambassador added. The JDS for Laos was established in 1999 by the Lao government with assistance from the Japanese government through its grant aid facility executed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Since 1999, some 334 scholars have been accepted to pursue higher studies at Japanese universities by the JDS, 293 of whom have since graduated. The objectives of the JDS programme are to support human resource development in Laos by targeting 20 young and highly capable government officials to further their academic studies in Japan. By acquiring expert knowledge, research skills and connections to human networks in Japanese universities, JDS participants are expected to tap into knowledge gained to take an active role in practically solving problems relating to social and economic development challenges in Laos. Solar energy in Morocco is transforming the renewable energy scene. One of the world’s biggest solar power plants is situated in Morocco. Jaouad Ait Rebah changes a lot of people’s lives in the High Atlas Mountains - by bringing light where there is darkness. The Moroccan entrepreneur installs solar panels in the area’s picturesque, but remote villages. For the high-altitude residents, the difference is like that of night and day. The beautiful scenery is mostly lost on those living there. They live in extreme poverty. Many young people have left due to the lack of jobs. Now, however, the solar panels are modernizing the villages. Jaouad Ait Rebah and his work symbolize the energy revolution that has been sweeping across Morocco in recent years. The country is leading the change to renewables in Africa, as is evident in Jaouad’s native Ouarzazate. The city is home to one of the biggest solar power plants in the world, comprising almost one million parabolic mirrors. King Mohammed VI. is investing $9 billion in the facility, which provides electricity to two million people. By 2040, Morocco aims to generate almost half of its power from renewable energy sources. Our team accompanied Jaouad Ait Rebah as he went about his challenging and laborious work, marveling at the scale of the enormous solar facilities, and asks to what degree King Mohammed VI.’s ambitious projects are actually trickling down to the little people. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Technology Metals Australia Ltd (ASX:TMT) managing director Ian Prentice speaks to Proactive Investors about the 39% increase in Northern Block mineral resources at the company's Gabanintha Vanadium Project in Western Australia. The project's global resource now amounts to 131 million tonnes at 0.9% vanadium pentoxide, including a high-grade component of 71.2 million tonnes at 1.1% vanadium and 12.7% titanium contained within the consistently mineralised massive magnetite zone. Prentice says such a grade is world-class and shows the potential for a long-tenured vanadium project. He adds that vanadium prices have now moderated to a level that minimises the temptation for buyers to turn to niobium as a substitute.

"Millions of employees walk through our organizations every day not just to get paid but to be inspired by the vision we have for them", says Vineet Nayar, former CEO of HCL Technologies and author of Harvard Business Press bestseller "Employees First, Customers Second" (EFCS) giving a compelling account of how this idea channelized the energy and passion of 100,000 employees to increase HCL's revenues and market cap over six times! In this must watch 18 minute video Vineet shares at least 8 simple ideas that can do wonders to your Employee Engagement scores and ensure happiness, passion and growth. Not surprisingly Vineet's EFCS philosophy and its execution at HCLT has been described as the "world's most modern management" by Fortune and got him a place in the magazine's first ever Fortune Global Dream-team alongside stalwarts like Steve Jobs. Vineet Nayar is the former CEO of HCL Technologies, founder of the Sampark Foundation and author of a book that is considered as a revolution in management, Employees First, Customers Second. He not only states simple philosophical principles but also applies them successfully: his company has succeeded the challenge of tripling its turnover ($4.2 billions today). Vineet Nayar has been elected best employer in Asia. His very simple idea of « management by trust » through challenging conventional management practices, was described by the American Fortune magazine as “the most modern management in the world”.He later created his charitable organization Sampark (“to be in contact” in Hindi), focused on the training of teachers. He is thus considered as the man who is resolving India’s problems. Indeed, in a country where tens of millions of children are dropping out of school, Vineet Nayar explains that he wants to “have an impact on millions of lives”.
