Tutorial on how to use the Ubuntu Manual Drive Partitioner (Something Else option) provided in the Ubuntu system Installer. FAT32 tends to be a small bootup partition NTFS is used for Windows and Windows backups Ext4 and Btrfs are generally used for Linux systems You'll also need a Linux Swap partition, which should be at least 1Gb, but its worth allocating more if you have enough harddrive space available.

How To Mount Windows Drive In Ubuntu Linux

02:26
In this video, I have shown the solution to unable to access windows. Error Status 14 : Hiberation problem of windows drive. Solution: using command in terminal to access windows without restarting the Windows and properly shuting it down. Alternate Solution to open in Write-mode : visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDF6EZdeAQ4 To Fix this permanently in future : check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDF6EZdeAQ4 You are seeing this error because you hibernated Windows instead of turning it off the normal way (in newer versions of Windows, hibernate might be the default option). Hibernating saves the current state information to the hard disk and then powers down the computer. Shutting down the computer closes all programs and ends all running processes before powering down the computer. When you turn off Windows by hibernating it, you are essentially pausing the system and saving all of that information (into a big file called hiberfil.sys) This way when you resume from hibernation all of your applications and files will be exactly how you left them. It also sets a flag in hiberfil.sys to let other Operating Systems know that Windows is hibernated. Making changes to your Windows (ntfs) partition while it is hibernated could be dangerous--it could cause Windows to not resume from hibernation or to crash after resuming. Because of this, the tool (ntfs-3g) that mounts (opens) the partition will not mount it in read-write mode if it sees a hibernation flag. As such, Nautilus, the default file browser, will not be able to automatically open this partition--hence the error message that you see--because it is trying to open it in read-write mode.

The installation process of Debian 9 Stretch is quite straightforward if you are an experienced Linux user. But if you try Debian your first time, there are several things which I find confusing for new users. So, if you decided to install and use Debian 9 Stretch, here is an overview of the Debian 9 installation process with some useful recommendations. 00:38 1. How to mount a USB device in Ubuntu manually.

01:49
If Ubuntu doesn't “see” your external USB Hard Disk, try to manually mount it. Here's how. commands used: sudo fdisk -l sudo mount /dev/sd** /mnt Input sudo fdisk -l in a terminal. You should see a large output. Wait until the "prompt" (the line that looks like `[email protected]:~$`) appears again. It might take up to 5 minutes. When the prompt appears again now you can now "mount" the device with this command: sudo mount /dev/*sdc1* /mnt Replace *sdc1* by the extra line you found when we did the first step in the previous video. (example:sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt) ...subscribe for more :D

Installing Linux & Windows in Dual Boot: CORRECT PARTITION SCHEME & BOOT LOADER SETUP

16:12
In this video, I will cover two important steps of Installing Linux alongside your windows OS. 1) Choosing the correct Partition scheme 2) Setting up your Windows Boot loader to boot to Linux instead of Linux bootloader (e.g : GRUB) During a standard Linux installation, a user do not have to worry about this. But when you are trying to install Linux in separate partition, keeping your current OS, it gets little trickier. If you do not configure these two options correctly, you might end up corrupting your bootloader or previous OS installation. I will also show how you can add your Linux os option to the Windows 8 bootloader using BCDedit. This is important so that in case in future if you decide to get rid of Linux OS, your computer boots normally without any issues.

Data recovery solution from hibernated harddisk ; Error mounting Volume (Hard Disk) in Ubuntu

26:14
One of my friend had broken laptop with hibernate status. Can’t turn laptop to shutdown properly. So tried in Ubuntu. And Linux can’t open hibernation windows partitions: Hibernating saves the current state information to the hard disk and then powers down the computer. Workaround for all versions of Windows Source: http://askubuntu.com/questions/145902/unable-to-mount-windows-ntfs-filesystem-due-to-hibernation Error "Error mounting /dev/sda4 at /media/ubuntu/8AB0F007B0EFF799: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=999,gid=999,dmas k=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sda4" "/media/ubuntu/8AB0F007B0EFF799"' exited with non-zero exit status 14: Windows is hibernated, refused to mount. How to Auto-Mount a Volume by editing FSTAB (File Systems Table) in Linux

05:15
Here I show you how to mount a volume automatically each time you login. You will need root permissions to do so, but it is fairly simple. First, locate where the drive is listed in your system by issuing: sudo fdisk -l (Be careful with the fdisk command, improper use can wipe entire partitions). Then you need to select a mount point. It can be any directory you want, but it needs to be empty. If it is not, you will not be able to get the previously placed files until you unmount the volume. Finally, editing the File System Table: sudo gedit /etc/fstab (Of course, you can use other editors, such as nano, vi, emacs, kate, etc). You then need to write in the changes, using the locating given by fdisk, the previously selected mount point, the file system type (ext4, ntfs, reiserfs, etc.), options (rw, user, exec, auto, etc.), and optionally Dump & FSCK bits. Upon reboot (or issuing a mnt command in the terminal) your drive will be mounted.

How to Resolve "Unable to Mount Windows NTFS Filesystem" in Linux Ubuntu?

01:00
How to Resolve Unable to mount Windows NTFS Filesystem due to hibernation in dual-boot Windows - Linux (Ubuntu)? Pls subscribe for more Tech Videos → https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIZkz681BV0g4J3Sq2sQH-A?sub_confirmation=1 There is a new feature in Windows 8 & Windows 10 called Fast Startup. If this feature is enabled (which it is by default), Windows 8 does not actually completely shutdown when you choose shutdown. Instead, it does a "hybrid shutdown". This is something like hibernating; it makes booting Windows 8 back up faster. So, you need to disable this feature to be able to shut it down properly, and be able to mount the Windows partitions. To do this, boot into your Windows 8 and: Note: disabling Fast Startup will most likely make your Windows 8 take a longer time to boot. There are no "exact" numbers, but let's say that if it took you 10 seconds to boot into Windows 8, it will now take you 50 seconds after disabling this feature. 1. Open Control Panel in the small icons view and click on Power Options. 2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do. 3. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable. 4. Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended). Click on the numbers above to see screenshots. Click on Save changes. Now, shutdown Windows 8 and boot back into Ubuntu. If you still aren't able to mount without getting errors, you may need to turn off hibernation completely. Open an elevated Command Prompt (right click on the shortcut, click on “Run as Administrator”), and input: powercfg /h off Source: AskUbuntu LIKE, COMMENT & SHARE https://youtu.be/qTRNJDrtnsQ

With that done, click on the advanced option. Step 5 -- Select authentication type Now, we will need to select the Authentication type. For this tutorial, let's select only the "Microsoft Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol version 2" option. Step 6 -- Security and Compression Settings In the Security and Compression Setting section over there, select the "Use TCP header compression" option. Next, go to the "Echo" section and click on the "Send PPP echo packets" option. Once you are done, click on the "Ok" button to close the window. Step 7 -- Save settings Here in the main Settings window click on "Save" and close all the open windows. Step 8 -- Open the VPN Now let's move to the network status button icon on top and click on the VPN Connection option. Over here, you can see the newly created VPN connection. Click on it to open the connection. Step 9 -- VPN successfully established Once you are done, you will see a message appear on the desktop that the "VPN Connection has been successfully established". And that's it. In this manner, you can configure VPN for ubuntu. Setting up VPN for ubuntu users will not be an issure anymore.
fstab, fixing mounting option of the hard drive on Mint

02:22
Hi guys, today we are going to talk about FSTAB and the Disk Utility window. If you want to edit the mounting options, so you can edit the mount point, the options, etc..., you will certainly have an error like Unrecognized mount option "x-gvfs-show" or missing value. To fix this, just add before the x-gvfs-show a "comment=" using the Disk utility, or modifying the file /etc/fstab, so it looks like this: [..], comment=x-gvfs-show[...] and it will work. gvfs is the Gnome Virtual File System and the comment option is as from the man fstab: comment: for use by fstab-maintaining programs Ok that's it for today guys., problem FIXED!!!! See you on my next video.

Boot Windows 10 ISO from any Linux(Lubuntu) GRUB without DVD or USB

03:31
Install Windows 10 from a linux PC without Burning to DVD or a bootable USB Pen drive. In my previous video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FnNrvF-Tw0 I tell you how to boot directly from any linux ISO. But, there is NO way, GRUB can Boot directly from Windows setup ISO file. So, you have to extract the ISO to any other partition of your hard disk and then boot from there. Just remember, extract the ISO in just under the Drive root and NOT TO ANY SUB FOLDER. Now add a new menuentry in Grub. open /boot/grub/grub.cfg ( or /etc/grub.d/40_custom after editing this file run sudo update-grub ) file in a text editor with root access and add these lines preferably at the end of the file. _____________________________ menuentry 'Windows 10' { set root=(hd0,5) insmod part_msdos ### This line is not necessary ### insmod ntfs ### This line is not necessary ### insmod ntldr drivemap -s (hd0) ${root} ### This line is not necessary ### ntldr /bootmgr } _____________________________ You need to set the root and filesystem type according to the location where you've extracted the ISO image. Save this file and restart your computer. Select "Windows 10" from Grub menu and continue installation.
