Market Failures, Taxes, and Subsidies: Crash Course Economics #21

12:12
This week on Crash Course Econ, Jacob and Adriene are talking about failure. Specifically, we're talking about market failures. When markets don't provide a good or service efficiently, that's a market failure. When markets fail, often governments step in to provide those services. Stuff like public education or military protection are good examples of market failures. So, what are some of the ways governments address, market failures? Well, it's funny you should ask, as we also talk about that in this episode. We'll get into taxes and subsidies and externalities and a bunch of other important stuff this week on Crash Course Econ. Analysis should occur through a clear chain of reasoning. This short revision video build a chain of reasoning explaining why pure public goods can lead to market failure because the private sector is unable to supply public goods profitably.

Shocking Globalist's Satanic Plan For 2019 - A Real Economic Analysis - Illuminati Exposed!

05:26
That phoenix is perched on dollar bills and on its chest a coin that announced the appearance of the arrival of a world currency that they called at that time as the “Phoenix”, The Economist published this picture on the front of their Rothschild owned Economist magazine back in 1988. Remember that at that time the internet was not like today, so they would not refer to cryptocurrencies or virtual payments because at that time it was totally unknown, but it is clear that 2018 has been an important year for them, relating to the new world order to impose a single currency for everyone. This is may be one of the reasons why Trump has been swinging the markets with his tweets and having trade wars with half the world. There's a global slowdown in the world economy, then there's political uncertainty with the American government shutdown, Trump is continuing his crusade against the federal reserve, the treasury has stepped in trying to sooth and calm things down, it all looks very well planned to me, and investors are becoming uneasy as the clock ticks away! The Economist cover that corresponds to the year 2019 is rather interesting, 2019 corresponds to the number 33. A Kabbalistic master number that is always taken into account by these satanist magicians who usually invoke demonic powers for their purposes, and could not be more than striking and strange to see that the cover for 2019 symbolism and the cover is totally black. What do the Rothschilds mean with their cover 33 and that is as black as jet? Do they have something very very dark? What is the message behind all this? The satanist globalists have always used symbolism and numerology for a long time! They have been obsessed with the Kabbalah - Call it coincidence if you like but years that end in a “9” have a habit of being eventful. More particularly, they tend to be years of upheaval. There’s 1789, of course, the year of the French Revolution. The Peterloo massacre, took place in 1819 and a century later there were fears that Bolshevism would spread from Russia westwards. The year 1939 requires no further explanation while 1979 encompassed the arrival of Margaret Thatcher in Downing Street. A decade after that, the tearing down of the Berlin Wall heralded the collapse of communism. In 2009, central banks had to pull out all the stops to prevent the deepest recession since the second world war turning into a second Great Depression. The slump against which all others are measured began with the Wall Street crash of October 1929. The gilets jaunes protests in France, the arrival of an avowedly populist government in Italy, and Brexit, are all political manifestations of deep economic unhappiness caused by years of weak growth, stagnant real wages and rising inequality. A stock market crash; a trade war; higher US interest rates triggering debt crises in overextended developing countries; an oil shock that stems from political upheaval in Iran or Saudi Arabia; these are all easy to identify as a massive possibility. Then there's Trump's repeated attacks on a Federal Reserve led by his own appointees. Just the other day, we had reports that President Trump has discussed the legally dubious move of trying to fire the Fed chairman Jerome Powell... Somethings going on, we have to find out what's going on! It all raises the possibility that if things do get worse, the United States government will be an agent of chaos rather than the source of steadiness and calm it is normally known for during crises. It is a lack of confidence in global leadership that explains this paradox: an economy that is doing this well and yet widespread conviction that things are about to turn bad. There are some rumblings of things that could go wrong in the financial system. Companies that loaded up during the era of ultralow interest rates are facing high debt burdens. Some may find themselves in bankruptcy. Oil prices have fallen enough that it seems it will be a tough 2019 in energy-producing areas. Major nations worldwide are facing profound challenges,

What is TRANSPORT ECONOMICS? What does TRANSPORT ECONOMICS mean?

04:12
What is TRANSPORT ECONOMICS? What does TRANSPORT ECONOMICS mean? TRANSPORT ECONOMICS meaning -TRANSPORT ECONOMICS definition - TRANSPORT ECONOMICS explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Transport economics is a branch of economics founded in 1959 by American economist John R. Meyer that deals with the allocation of resources within the transport sector. It has strong links to civil engineering. Transport economics differs from some other branches of economics in that the assumption of a spaceless, instantaneous economy does not hold. People and goods flow over networks at certain speeds. Demands peak. Advance ticket purchase is often induced by lower fares. The networks themselves may or may not be competitive. A single trip (the final good, in the consumer's eyes) may require the bundling of services provided by several firms, agencies and modes. Although transport systems follow the same supply and demand theory as other industries, the complications of network effects and choices between dissimilar goods (e.g. car and bus travel) make estimating the demand for transportation facilities difficult. The development of models to estimate the likely choices between the such goods involved in transport decisions (discrete choice models) led to the development of an important branch of econometrics, as well as a Nobel Prize for Daniel McFadden. In transport, demand can be measured in number of journeys made or in total distance traveled across all journeys (e.g. passenger-kilometers for public transport or vehicle-kilometers of travel (VKT) for private transport). Supply is considered to be a measure of capacity. The price of the good (travel) is measured using the generalised cost of travel, which includes both money and time expenditure. The effect of increases in supply (i.e. capacity) are of particular interest in transport economics (see induced demand), as the potential environmental consequences are significant. Regulation of the supply of transport capacity relates to both safety regulation and economic regulation. Transport economics considers issues of the economic regulation of the supply of transport, particularly in relation to whether transport services and networks are provided by the public sector (i.e. socially), by the private sector (i.e. competitively) or using a mixture of both. Transport networks and services can take on any combination of regulated/deregulated and public/private provision. For example, bus services in the UK outside London are provided by both the public and private sectors in a deregulated economic environment (where no-one specifies which services are to be provided, so the provision of services is influenced by the market), whereas bus services within London are provided by the private sector in a regulated economic environment (where the public sector specifies the services to be provided and the private sector competes for the right to supply those services - i.e. franchising). The regulation of public transport is often designed to achieve some social, geographic and temporal equity as market forces might otherwise lead to services being limited to the most popular travel times along the most densely settled corridors of development. National, regional or municipal taxes are often deployed to provide a network that is socially acceptable (e.g. extending timetables through the daytime, weekend, holiday or evening periods and intensifying the mesh of routes beyond that which a lightly regulated market would probably provide). Franchising may be used to create a supply of transport that balances the free-market supply outcome and the most socially desirable supply outcome.

Private Sector vs. Public Sector

02:11
If you were mailing an extremely important package, you'd probably trust FedEx more than the U.S. Postal Service. But why? Is it because FedEx is a private company, while the post office is run by the government? What are the differences between the "private sector" and the government sector? Why does it matter? Politicians in the media often talk about the private and public sectors of our economy but what's the difference? And which one is more effective? The private sector is made up of businesses or corporations owned by people. The private sector includes malls, grocery stores, and your local diner. To make a profit in the private sector, businesses must earn our money by offering us products and services that we want or need. When businesses have to compete for the same dollars, prices go down because no one wants to pay twice as much for shoes at one store if you can get the same pair cheaper at another place. On the other hand, the public sector is not supported by profits. It doesn't have to compete for our dollars. Instead, the public sector uses our tax dollars to fund its services. So we pay for these programs no matter how much or how little we use them. The government decides how our tax dollars should be spent in the public sector. This makes sense for some things. For example, you probably wouldn't want firefighters or police officers competing with one another for your business. In other cases though, this means things cost more or service is worse. The U.S. Post Office has $100 billion in debt and is regularly bailed out with taxpayer money. And the Department of Motor Vehicles isn't usually known for fast, friendly service. In contrast, private companies know that if they offer poor customer service and don't make money, they'll go out of business. When comparing the private sector with the public sector, it's clear that the market-driven private sector is more efficient. When you don't have to be profitable or accountable, things tend to be more expensive and the service is worse. So when there's a choice between a private sector or a government service, think about that package you really need delivered.

Yanis Varoufakis: The Future of Capitalism | The New School

01:59:30
Sponsored by the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (http://www.economicpolicyresearch.org) at The New School for Social Research (http://www.newschool.edu/nssr), Yanis Varoufakis will deliver SCEPA's annual Robert Heilbroner Memorial Lecture, "The Future of Capitalism." We all know Varoufakis as the former Greek Finance Minister and media sensation who stood up to Europe in the fight against austerity. His lecture will discuss themes from his new book, "And The Weak Suffer What They Must?," including the origins of a crisis that has affected not only Greece, but all of Europe. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring New School Professor of Economics Mark Setterfield and economics student Ebba Boye. Department of Economics | http://www.newschool.edu/nssr/economics Varoufakis’ career has spanned academia, public service, and the private sector. After three decades in academia, he was elected to the Hellenic Parliament in 2015 as a member of the Syriza Party and became Minister of Finance in Alexis Tsipras’ government. He currently serves as professor of economics at the University of Athens and as a consultant for the Valve Corporation. The Robert Heilbroner Memorial Lecture on the Future of Capitalism: The Heilbroner lecture honors the work of Robert Heilbroner, who was both a student and a professor in the economics department of The New School for Social Research. This event is dedicated to understanding questions of economic justice and how the profit-seeking activities of private firms might also serve broader social goals. To use Heilbroner’s words, “capitalism’s uniqueness in history lies in its continuously self-generated change, but it is this very dynamism that is the system’s chief enemy.” THE NEW SCHOOL | http://www.newschool.edu Location: John L.
