In this video, you will learn how to use Confirmation Calendar settings to shift the day a job will run, or prevent the job from running, for example because of a holiday, or a major system backup. Content overview: Shifting scheduling - 00:22 Confirmation calendar - 1:10 Holidays calendar - 1:37 Exception Policy field options - 2:25 Transcript: Let’s look at an example where we have a job that runs on Mondays and Wednesdays. When there is a holiday on a Monday or Wednesday, we want the job to run on the following day. To meet this scheduling criteria, we can use a calendar that has Mondays and Wednesdays selected, or we can just choose these days in the Scheduling tab. In this video, we’ll select Weekdays, and then select Monday and Wednesday. We want the job to run every month, so we will leave the default setting of all months selected in the Order on Months area. Let’s click View Schedule to make sure we selected the correct values. Everything looks good. Now let’s scroll down to the Confirmation Calendar area. In the Confirmation Calendar area, we want to select a calendar that includes working days but excludes holidays. We have a calendar in the list called “Holidays”, which we will select. Note that you must use a Regular calendar in the Confirmation Calendar area. For more information about creating calendars, take a look at our Calendars video. Let’s take a look a quick look at the Holidays calendar by clicking View. This calendar has Monday through Fridays selected, except for holidays. In our example, we want the job to run on the following day, if a holiday falls on a Monday or Wednesday. So in the Exception Policy field, we will select Order on next confirmed day. Let’s click View Schedule to see when the job will run. There is a holiday on Monday, September 3rd, and we see that the job won’t run on Monday but will run on the next day, Tuesday Sept 4th. There’s also a holiday on Wednesday, September 19th, and this job will run on the next day, Sept 20th, and so forth for the other holidays in this calendar. Let’s take a few more moments, and look at the other options in the Exception Policy field. Using our example, if you want the job to run on the day before a holiday, you would select Order on previous confirmed day. If you don’t want the job to run on a holiday or any other day, then select Do not order. And last, Order anyway, means the job will run on holidays. Thanks for watching this video.

In this video, you will learn how to prevent jobs from running on specific days by using a Rule-based Calendar or RBC. Content Overview: Introduction - 0:15 RBC use example - 0:33 SMART folder - 1:36 Checking the schedule for the job - 2:41 Transcript: If you have jobs that run on a regular basis, and you want to make sure that these jobs don’t run on certain days, for example, holidays, or days when heavier processes run, you can use an RBC to schedule these jobs. Let’s look at an example where a job is scheduled to run Monday through Friday. However, we don’t want the job to run on the first and last days of each month. To meet this scheduling criteria, we’ll need two RBCs. One RBC for Monday through Friday, and a second RBC for the first and last days of the month. Let’s take a quick look at these calendars in the Tools domain that were created previously. The Monday through Friday calendar is pretty straightforward. It’s set up for all months during the year. The calendar for the first and last days of each month was set up using Month Days, and Days from start/end of month. “1” was selected to make sure the first day of every month is in the calendar, and “-1” was selected for the last day of every month. If you want to know how to create an RBC or another calendar, take a look at our Calendars video. We have a SMART folder that contains some jobs. All the jobs should run Monday through Friday. So at the folder level, in the Scheduling tab, we’ll select the Monday through Friday RBC. First we’ll remove the “EVERYDAY” RBC that’s entered by default. Now we’ll select the Monday through Friday RBC. We can check that the scheduling is correct by clicking Folder Schedule. If we view the schedule for each job, we see that it takes on the scheduling properties of the folder. For the “Report3” job, we want to prevent the job from running on the first and last days of the month, when these days occur Monday through Friday. So we will select Using Specific Rule-Based Calendars, select the Monday through Friday calendar, and then add the second RBC in the Excluded Rule-based calendars list. Now let’s check the schedule for this job. We see that the job will run Monday through Friday, but won’t run on the days when the first and last days of the month fall on Monday through Friday. You can get an overview of the scheduling for the jobs in a folder by selecting the folder, selecting the Analysis tab, clicking View Schedule, and selecting View Schedule. Remember that you can use a Rule-based calendar and the Exclude option to prevent jobs from running on specific days.

Backing up a table by making a copy of it gives you the ability to quickly revert extensive changes or compare data after the fact. You can use a backup table as a work table when you need to insert a modified copy of a subset of the data. For more information and JDE Webinars, visit http://www.getgsi.com.

Over the last 20 years of implementing advanced planning and scheduling tools around the world, one thing that comes over loud and clear is that each company has different ideas of what they want from a scheduling solution, what data they want to see, what pain points they want to cure, what planning and scheduling objectives they have and what scheduling rules they want to use. In selecting a Planning and Scheduling solution you should be looking at how flexible you need the solution to be and whether the application has the capability to provide that flexibility. This session will provide a high level overview of the scheduling capabilities of Preactor. Preactor is the leading provider of advanced planning and scheduling solutions to the manufacturing industry having an extensive installed base with more than 4,500 small, medium and large companies in almost every manufacturing sector.
