This massive scale of fossil fuel dependence pollutes the earth, and it won’t last forever. On the other hand, we have abundant sun, water and wind, which are all renewable energy sources. So why don’t we exchange our fossil fuel dependence for an existence based only on renewables? Federico Rosei and Renzo Rosei describe the challenges. Algal Biofuel: A natural energy resource

05:22
When most people think about algae, they imagine common seaweed on the beach, or maybe the thin green layer on the surface of their backyard pond. In another ten years, however, we may more commonly think of algae as a source of energy. Bigelow Laboratory, located in Boothbay Harbor, ME, is conducting research on algae as a biofuel resource. This audio story explains the hurdles to be overcome before we see algal biofuel on the market, including the current conflict in the scientific community regarding this research. Green Mountain Energy: How Clean Energy Works

01:08
https://www.greenmountainenergy.com/ How do we help create a brighter future for our planet? Clean energy is an excellent place to start. Just think: The more people who choose clean, renewable energy to power their homes and businesses, the less environmental pollution will be produced from using fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. Sustainable energy sources like the wind and the sun have great potential and are already making an impact all around the world! Check out this video for an easy intro to how clean energy works. Transcript: Imagine the electric grid as a giant bathtub that is constantly being filled from many different faucets—each one represents a different electricity generation source such as coal, natural gas, nuclear and wind. Each time you use electricity, you drain a little water from the bathtub. Most of the water being poured into the tub is from faucets connected to polluting fossil fuel sources … or, the “dirty water.” But some of the water comes from a small but growing number of faucets associated with renewable sources, which contribute to pure, clean water. As the demand for electricity from renewable sources increases, more of the clean water goes into the tub and less of the dirty water from fossil fuel sources is needed. Over time, as more and more people choose clean energy, we should start to see the water in the bathtub getting cleaner. How great would it be to see a pure, clean bathtub? About: Green Mountain Energy is the nation’s longest-serving renewable energy retailer and believes in using wind, sun and water for good. The company was founded in 1997 with the mission to “change the way power is made.” Green Mountain offers consumers and businesses the choice of cleaner electricity products from renewable sources, as well as carbon offsets and sustainable solutions for businesses. Home Renewable Energy Resources

02:15
Home Renewable Energy Systems Can Save You Money Home renewable energy has become a hot topic for those who wish to do what they can to save money while they conserve dwindling natural resources. You may be surprised to learn how many home renewable energy options have become available through technological advances in the last few years. Solar energy and wind power are at the top of the list when it comes to home renewable energy systems because they are the most practical and realistic options available. Solar energy can be used in almost any location where solar panels can be installed facing the sun for the majority of the day. The amount of power produced by solar energy is greatly reduced once it is no longer in direct sunlight such as on cloudy or rainy days and during the night. It is for this reason that for now solar power is generally used in conjunction with service from an electric company. There are several different solar power options to choose from so you should gather all the information available and learn as much about solar home renewable energy systems as you can before you make plans to integrate it into your home. Wind power is an option that requires space to put up a turbine and enough wind to generate power. Wind turbines get their energy from the force of the wind. If the wind doesn’t blow there will be no energy available to produce power. Therefore, to use this option the homeowner would need some type of back-up power to provide electricity for the home when the wind is not generating enough power to do so. To work efficiently, a wind turbine must receive a smooth wind flow. Trees and other obstacles cause the wind to be inconsistent and broken up before it reaches the blades of the turbine and this reduces the amount of power it can create. Therefore, the turbine needs to be placed as high above the ground as possible. Hydro-power is another option when it comes to renewable energy but the homeowner would need unlimited access to a water supply. Hydro-power is the least expensive option available but due to the fact that most homeowners don’t have a river or stream flowing through their property with high enough flow rates to generate power, it is used the least. Finding the right home renewable energy systems for your home takes planning and research. Not only do homeowners need to consider what they would like to use but they must always think about the cost, what is available in their area and what would be practical for where they live.

Can We Rely on Wind and Solar Energy?

There’s a lot of sun and a lot of wind. They’re free. They’re clean. No CO2 emissions. So, what’s the problem? Why do solar and wind combined provide less than 2% of the world’s energy? To answer these questions, we need to understand what makes energy, or anything else for that matter, cheap and plentiful. For something to be cheap and plentiful, every part of the process to produce it, including every input that goes into it, must be cheap and plentiful. Yes, the sun is free. Yes, wind is free. But the process of turning sunlight and wind into useable energy on a mass scale is far from free. In fact, compared to the other sources of energy -- fossil fuels, nuclear power, and hydroelectric power, solar and wind power are very expensive. The basic problem is that sunlight and wind as energy sources are both weak (the more technical term is dilute) and unreliable (the more technical term is intermittent). It takes a lot of resources to collect and concentrate them, and even more resources to make them available on-demand. These are called the diluteness problem and the intermittency problem. The diluteness problem is that, unlike coal or oil, the sun and the wind don’t deliver concentrated energy -- which means you need a lot of additional materials to produce a unit of energy. For solar power, such materials can include highly purified silicon, phosphorus, boron, and a dozen other complex compounds like titanium dioxide. All these materials have to be mined, refined and/or manufactured in order to make solar panels. Those industrial processes take a lot of energy. For wind, needed materials include high-performance compounds for turbine blades and the rare-earth metal neodymium for lightweight, specialty magnets, as well as the steel and concrete necessary to build structures -- thousands of them -- as tall as skyscrapers. And as big a problem as diluteness is, it’s nothing compared to the intermittency problem. This isn’t exactly a news flash, but the sun doesn’t shine all the time. And the wind doesn’t blow all the time. The only way for solar and wind to be truly useful would be if we could store them so that they would be available when we needed them. You can store oil in a tank. Where do you store solar or wind energy? No such mass-storage system exists. Which is why, in the entire world, there is not one real or proposed independent, freestanding solar or wind power plant. All of them require backup. And guess what the go-to back-up is: fossil fuel. Here’s what solar and wind electricity look like in Germany, which is the world’s leader in “renewables”. The word erratic leaps to mind. Wind is constantly varying, sometimes disappearing completely. And solar produces little in the winter months when Germany most needs energy. 33. Energy Resources, Renewable Energy

47:39
The Atmosphere, the Ocean and Environmental Change (GG 140) The various types of resources currently used for energy production are discussed. Energy is primarily used for heating, transportation, and generating electricity. Coal is burned largely to produce electricity and is a major contributor to air pollution with coal power plants emitting carbon dioxides and nitrous oxides. Another major resource used for energy is oil. It is projected that each country either has reached or will reach a peak oil use, after which oil use will decrease. Natural gas is now being obtained from shale using the extraction technique of fracting which is a recent discovery. Nuclear power gained popularity worldwide through the 1970s, however very few new power plants have been built in the last three decades following the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl episodes. Hydroelectric power is generated by forcing water flowing from high terrain through a turbine to produce electricity. There are many hydroelectric dams operating globally. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Coal vs Clean Energy Show: Coal Hates Mountains

00:45
Over one billion tons of coal are mined every year in the United States, second only to China. Think of all the mountaintops that have met their demise! The mining also poisons drinking water; destroys beautiful, biodiverse forests and wildlife habitat; increases the risk of flooding; and wipes out entire communities. - Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization -- with more than two million members and supporters. Our successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, we've made history by leading the charge to address climate disruption by moving away from the dirty fossil fuels and toward a clean energy economy. The wind rages outside the thin walls of your wooden cabin. A wolf howls in the distance. You look at the meagre supplies in your pack, and wish for the days before the power mysteriously went out. How much longer will you survive? THIS IS THE LONG DARK The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster. WINTERMUTE The episodic story-mode for The Long Dark, WINTERMUTE launches with two of the five episodes that form its Season One. In Episode One: “Do Not Go Gentle”, bush pilot Will Mackenzie (player character) and Dr. Astrid Greenwood are separated after their plane crashes deep in the Northern Canadian wilderness in the aftermath of a mysterious flash of light in the sky. Struggling to survive as he desperately searches for Astrid, Mackenzie comes across the small town of Milton, where he begins to understand the scope of this quiet apocalypse. In Episode Two: “Luminance Fugue”, Mackenzie’s search for Astrid takes him deeper into the savage Winter wilderness. A mysterious trapper may be the key to finding Astrid, but can he be trusted? The first two episodes of WINTERMUTE represent approximately 15 hours of gameplay. Episodes Three to Five are included in the price of the game, and will be unlocked for free as they are released. Features performances by Jennifer Hale, Mark Meer, David Hayter, and Elias Toufexis (Episode Three), and the music of Cris Velasco. SURVIVAL MODE Survival Mode is the free-form, non-narrative survival sandbox that has been honed over nearly three years on Early Access. No hand holding! The game challenges players to think for themselves by providing the information but never the answers. You have to earn the right to survive. Permadeath! When you die in Survival Mode, your save is deleted. Every decision matters. [Note that WINTERMUTE does not feature permadeath.] Condition and Calories: Monitor your Hunger, Thirst, Fatigue, and Cold as you struggle to balance resources with the energy needed to obtain them. Every action costs Calories, and time is your most precious resource. Choose your path carefully. Scour the World for Supplies: Over 100 gear items including Tools, Light Sources, Weapons, First Aid supplies, Clothing, and more. A Vast Living World: Explore a 50 square kilometre Northern Canadian wilderness in search of precious supplies. In Winter. Dynamic time of day, weather, wildlife presence, etc. provide just enough randomness to keep things challenging. Survival of the Fittest: Hunt, fish, trap, climb, map, search for life-saving food and gear items, and try to avoid dying from the hostile wildlife, succumbing to hypothermia, frostbite, or dysentery (amongst other uncomfortable afflictions), find and maintain your life-saving gear. Hunt or Be Hunted: Wildlife to hunt and be hunted by: Wolves, Bears, Rabbits, Deer, Crows, and more to come in future updates. Choose Your Experience: Four distinct Experience Modes let you find a challenge level you are comfortable with, such as Pilgrim Mode, which is meant to be quiet and pensive, all the way to Interloper Mode, where only the most experienced survivors have a chance to last a week. Survival is your only goal, and death your only end. Make your own survival story with every game. Features the music of Sascha Dikiciyan. CHALLENGES Several standalone Challenge Modes offer objective-based experiences designed to last 1-3 hours each, such as Whiteout -- the race to gather enough supplies to prepare for a monster blizzard. Or Hunted, where you need to escape a murderous Bear. Complete them to unlock Feats that provide long-term gameplay benefits in Survival Mode. Five Challenges exist at launch, with more on the way in future updates.

Robert Bryce on the Coming Resource Wars

02:29
Robert Bryce on resource interdependence. Question: Are we going to see more resource wars in the future? Robert Bryce: That is hard for me to predict at there I know that this is a topic that Michael Klare and other people have promoted as the idea of that we are going to fight over water, oil and timber you name it. What I see is a world becoming more interdependent and in every thing my book is the thesis of my book Gusher of Lies is really that the world is interdependent in any number of commodities whether it is ipods or beer or fresh flowers tenacious and that interdependence is going to strengthen actually in the coming years because we have no choice and as different companies, as I am sorry as different countries become better at a producing certain commodities they will assert their influence in the market place and my book debunks the idea that energy independence is possible that is doable or even desirable for the US well, what we really need to be looking at is interdependence and that is in fact what the market and energy and other commodities just had for decades and will continue to have. There clearly is a lot of rhetoric about the issue of oil and fighting over oil I think what I see in the future as natural gas becomes a more critical player in the global economy it is I think much more of a by necessity it is a much more co-operative commercial enterprise, pipe lines require stronger connections between countries and gas really is only effectively moved to led the movement by gas pipe line, we are going to see on an emerging gas market that is global due to the increasing use of liquefied natural gas and I think compressed natural gas which is not in the market yet in any significant degree at least in the marine market but I think I would argue the opposite because I think it is the world gets more integrated is the market for energy gets more integrated, I think that we are going to see further cooperation among countries because it is in their commercial interest and in fact if you look at what has happened with Iran despite America's efforts to isolate the Iranians what we are in fact saying as the Iranians making multiple commercial deals with numerous countries around the world whether it is a Brazilians, the Turks, the Austrians, the Iranians are integrating their economy and their energy commodities in to the global economy and doing it very effectively. Lawrence M. Krauss on nuclear energy as a resource @TSN

04:45
Hi all, First and foremost, nuclear energy is dangerous. I do not contest that. What is to be shared, is that human error and our species' dysfunctional marriage to corrupt behaviours may be the weak links in the meaningfully strong chain that is needed to skilfully harness this resource in as reasonable and as safe manner as is within our reach. "Now, am I in favour of nuclear power? It turns out I am not. But, not because of the radioactive dangers. I think those can be controlled and by sensible engineering. I really do. I am not afraid of nuclear activity, because I can monitor it much more effectively than almost anything else. And, I don't think it's a problem to store it." — Professor Lawrence M. Krauss A glimpse into the human behaviours which may have added to the incredible disasters within and surrounding the Fukushima nuclear power plants: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/in-depth/japan-tsunami/fukushima-nuclear-plant-owner-falsified-inspection-records/story-fn84naht-1226023073141 I highly suggest exploring this following link. If you are pressed for time, please do scroll down to where there is a heading that states: "What happened at Fukushima (as of March 12, 2011)" http://theenergycollective.com/barrybrook/53461/fukushima-nuclear-accident-simple-and-accurate-explanation Is our species ready to safely embrace nuclear energy as a resource? That is one of the many huge questions. A light glimpse of the numerous way past their welcome human behaviours appears to my l'il mind that such things will be with us for the long haul. Where there are people willing to place others and even themselves in harm's way and for whatever reason, then there will be disasters due to such things. Nuclear energy as an energy resource is a viable option. Asking people to let go of harmful behaviours, appears to be engaging in wishful thinking. Sigh. The vid snippet was gleaned from an April 7th of 2011 talk: Lawrence Krauss - Quantum Man: Richard Feynman's Life in Science @TSN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wtkjpvu2CXk http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Man-Richard-Feynmans-Discoveries/dp/0393340651 http://books.google.ca/books/about/Quantum_Man_Richard_Feynman_s_Life_in_Sc.html?id=o4dc_zcnl1cC ❧▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ☑ Wonderful music titled "Sun Clouds" by Mokhov, shared via Creative Commons

April 24, 2012 China_China fighting for Arctic resources - analyst

01:24
Beijing is looking for backing from Nordic states for its bid to gain a foothold in the Arctic Ocean and its energy resources. "I think in the key question whether the Nordic states, especially the Arctic states, will give China some backing in fighting for resources in the Arctic Ocean, I think China will find it tough", says Francis Lun, Managing Director of Lyncean Holdings Limited. He adds that while not all Arctic nations want to work with Beijing, they will have to accept Chinese involvement as it will "outpace Europe economically sooner or later". "I think the global community will do better in accepting the emergence of China as an economic superpower and accept the world with China rather than oppose China." China's Premier Wen Jiabao has been in Sweden signing a number of energy deals during his European tour. The Great Day of Annihilation http://www.facebook.com/thegreatdayofannihilation

Wireless Energy Coom In 2030 - Japanese Scientists Transmit Electricity Wirelessly Through the Air

What seemed utopic more than 40 years ago is about to become reality: the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency JAXA especially is hell-bent on harvesting solar energy from space by 2030. Researchers from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) managed to transfer 1.8 kilowatts of power via microwaves to a specific receiver located at a distance of 170 feet (55 meters). You may think that it’s not such an impressive distance, and the delivered energy was only enough to power an electric kettle, but the experiment opens up new prospects for alternative energy research. In particular, similar technology could be utilized for collecting solar energy in space and delivering it to Earth. In fact, this is how the International Space Station is powered – it converts sunlight into electric current with the help of solar cells placed on its solar array wings. The Japanese Science and Economy and Trade Ministry are currently pushing the project, set to launch in 2030. Just last month they put together the Institute for Unmanned Space Experiment Free Flyer (USEF) consortium consisting of several high-tech giants such as Mitsubishi Electric, NEC, Fujitsu and Sharp. Given that Japan has few energy resources of its own and therefore relies heavily on oil imports, it is no surprise that the country has long been a leader when it comes to solar and other renewable energies. It seems that after more than a century, someone eventually managed to come close to Nikola Tesla’s breakthrough in transferring wireless electric power. Japanese scientists for the first time succeeded in transmitting electricity wirelessly through the air. In any case, I strongly believe that the world community will soon realize that alternative sources of energy are the only way for humanity to survive. While definitely different than Tesla’s idea of FREE energy, if the SSPS is finally implemented, we would have a permanent supply of wireless electric power regardless of the time of the day and the weather conditions.

Australia and Indonesia: Energy, Resources, and Security at the Fulcrum of the Indo-Pacific

01:27:27
In the past decade Australia has emerged as a resource superpower. It is the world's leading exporter of iron ore and will soon be one of world's leading exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG). A recent PwC report indicates that by 2050, Indonesia - which is already the largest and most populous economy in Southeast Asia - will become the world's fourth largest economy. President Joko Widodo visited Canberra in February and this week Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is in Jakarta to participate in the Indian Ocean Rim Association Summit. Together these two nations occupy the fulcrum of the Indo-Pacific, and their policies and politics will help set the pace for a dynamic region. Please join us for a panel of experts to discuss the energy, resource, security and diplomatic issues they will face in the coming years.
The Future of Renewables: Moving Towards a Cleaner Energy Mix (Updated Cut)

Hydrogen Energy resource Turbines and Free of charge HHO Dried out Cellular Plans Part 1

10:26
http://www.hydrowaterpower.com/ http://www.hydrowaterpower.com/hydrogenOrder.htm When you've got determined to test out hydrogen energy resource and would choose to make a energy resource short-cut Hydrogen Creator, I would suggest the HHO Dry Cellular pattern. The existing water4gas HHO generator pattern was extracted because of the benefits earlier, as well as hydrogen power generators called damp cellular material are poor towards the new HHO dried out mobile phone pattern. Below are a few explanation why the brand new InHHO dried out mobile phoneIn sets can beat the old water4gas and damp mobile phone models. The existing damp mobile phone models acquired a lot of current loss round the edges of your opera clothing. This implies that perhaps the presented present had not been attaining the clothing the place that the electrolysis procedure comes about, and that means you was required to provide far more current in order to develop the specified degree of HHO gas. You don't need this present damage when using HHO dried out pattern. With the new HHO dried out mobile phone pattern, the electrical present is centered on the dried out mobile phone clothing, this is one way the dried out mobile phone makes far more hydrogen energy resource by using fewer online pokies HHO drycell will likely be tweaked with four or five fairly neutral clothing, encased in many bad and good opera clothing. http://www.hydrowaterpower.com/ http://www.hydrowaterpower.com/HHO-Water-Fuel-Articles.htm
