Gold and Oil are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to commodities. In this video David Jones explains what the three main groups are and what factors influence them the most. Energy, precious metals and agricultural products are what make the world function. They are its lifeblood and vital organs. Because of this importance they are actually traded often with futures, so that there is a guarantee that they will be there when needed. From politics and weather to disease and speculation, commodities are among the most volatile instruments in the financial world. Their specifics are governed by a wide range of variables and understanding what drives their prices up and down is one of the hardest challenges that traders face. Among the other more popular commodities we have silver, natural gas, wheat, orange juice, cattle. The list is actually quite long and the factors that change their price too. Whether it’s interest rates in the U.S., oil production in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, or a insect invasion in Southeast Asia, it’s definitely an exciting world to trade in. At Trading 212 we provide an execution only service. This video should not be construed as investment advice. Investments can fall and rise. Capital at risk. CFDs are higher risk because of leverage.

But materials of daily use are also great investment options. Some examples are commodities like cotton, wheat, and copper. Commodities play a key role in spurring economic growth. They connect countries through trade and commerce. Like stocks, commodities trade as investment instruments at commodities markets around the world. In fact, these markets complete trades worth billions of dollars each day. Commodities market traders come from diverse backgrounds. They can be farmers who want to protect themselves from falling food grain prices, or brokerage houses who want to make big profits for their clients. They may also be business owners who use commodities as production inputs. They trade in commodity futures to protect themselves from an increase in the price of their input commodities. Whatever your interest may be – risk minimization or profit maximisation – the commodity futures market can cater to it. Commodity Futures also have some structural attributes that make them an important component of an investor’s portfolios. One of these attributes is that they let you take bigger positions than your means allow. Taking bigger positions means that investing the same amount in commodities can earn you higher returns than investing it in a conventional investment option. In India, commodity trading is relatively new. The country’s two biggest commodity exchanges only came up in 2003. But individuals and institutions are fast realising the benefits of commodities trading. An increasing number of investors are now setting aside a portion of their investment portfolio for commodities trading. At present, commodities can be traded on three national-level exchanges in the country: Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (MCX), National Commodity and Derivative Exchange (NCDEX) and National Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd (NMCE). There are also 21 smaller exchanges that offer commodities trading at the regional level. The annual turnover of India’s five leading commodities exchanges stands at over Rs. 65 lakh crore.

Futures Market Explained
Farmers use various tools to control the many risks in agriculture. Watching the weather influences when they plant or harvest. Buying crop insurance and selecting farm bill safety net programs helps protect them from crop devastation. But they can also manage some of the threat posed by volatile market prices by participating in the futures market. Farmers can get a feel for how that works if they play Commodity Classic, an online teaching tool that uses fictitious bushels of grain in a fake futures market. But here at Harvest Public Media, we wanted to better understand how the futures market helps both producers and users of a major commodity, such as corn. And how the benefits trickle down to regular food consumers. Here’s what we learned.

What is COMMODITIES EXCHANGE? What does COMMODITIES EXCHANGE mean? COMMODITIES EXCHANGE meaning - COMMODITIES EXCHANGE definition - COMMODITIES EXCHANGE explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A commodities exchange is an exchange where various commodities and derivatives products are traded. Most commodity markets across the world trade in agricultural products and other raw materials (like wheat, barley, sugar, maize, cotton, cocoa, coffee, milk products, pork bellies, oil, metals, etc.) and contracts based on them. These contracts can include spot prices, forwards, futures and options on futures. Other sophisticated products may include interest rates, environmental instruments, swaps, or ocean freight contracts. Commodities exchanges usually trade futures contracts on commodities, such as trading contracts to receive something, say corn, in a certain month. A farmer raising corn can sell a future contract on his corn, which will not be harvested for several months, and guarantee the price he will be paid when he delivers; a breakfast cereal producer buys the contract now and guarantees the price will not go up when it is delivered. This protects the farmer from price drops and the buyer from price rises. Speculators and investors also buy and sell the futures contracts in attempt to make a profit and provide liquidity to the system. However, due to the financial leverage provided to traders by the exchange, commodity futures traders face a substantial risk.

What is Commodity Trading?
Commodities are the basic building blocks of the global economy, and as such are hugely important. Commodities refer to primary goods such as wheat, gold or oil, and are traded on dedicated exchanges around the world. They are often influential components of the financial markets, so understanding how they are priced, and how they are traded, is extremely important. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watch more educational videos - http://bit.ly/EducationPlaylist Try our Demo Platform - http://bit.ly/IGDemoAccount ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wikipedia: A commodity market is a market that trades in primary rather than manufactured products. Soft commodities are agricultural products such as wheat, coffee, cocoa and sugar. Hard commodities are mined, such as gold, rubber and oil. Investors access about 50 major commodity markets worldwide with purely financial transactions increasingly outnumbering physical trades in which goods are delivered. Futures contracts are the oldest way of investing in commodities. Futures are secured by physical assets. Commodity markets can include physical trading and derivatives trading using spot prices, forwards, futures, and options on futures. Farmers have used a simple form of derivative trading in the commodity market for centuries for price risk management. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: The comments in this video are intended by IG Asia Pte Ltd for general circulation. How to Select a Commodity for Trading | HINDI
To select a commodity for trading is the first and most basic step for any trader. It is very difficult to finalize a commodity as most of the traders lack knowledge of the same. Selection of a commodity for trading should be a logical process. The trader should find out actively traded commodity with high volatility. Secondly, the traders should stay away from agri commodities if they don't know the nitty-gritty of the same. The most actively traded commodity is Crude Oil in the energy sector. In the base metal category, copper is the final shortlist. In the case of agri commodity, cotton is traded with high volume both internationally and in India. The list may change. Price Volatility - The Coffee Market
This revision video looks at some of the causes of price volatility in the international coffee market. Market prices tend to be volatile when demand and supply are inelastic in response to price changes in the short run and when there are unexpected fluctuations in the conditions of demand and supply. Coffee is the 117th most traded product in the global economy and the 948th most complex product according to the Product Complexity Index. But the importance of coffee is hard to understate. Coffee is grown in more than 60 countries and raw and processed coffee beans are the most traded commodity in the world after oil. 25 million families worldwide make a living from coffee production although the bulk of profits flow not to producers but to businesses who roast the beans and turn it into higher value-added products. Brazil is by far the largest global producer, followed by Vietnam and Colombia.

Commodities and Commodity Markets | Market to Market Classroom
A commodity is a raw product. Examples of commodities include grains, like corn, wheat and soybeans; livestock like cattle and hogs; metals like gold and silver, and energy sources like crude oil and natural gas. This raw product is typically sold, and then processed and/or packaged in some way to ultimately be sold by a retailer to a consumer. To make it easier to buy and sell these raw goods, the quality of the commodity must be uniform from all producers. So all the bushels of corn, all the bales of cotton, and all the barrels of crude oil are essentially the same, regardless of who produced them. A commodity market is a place where you can buy, sell, or trade these raw products. Market to Market Classroom connects you with stories about the science, technology, culture, and business of agriculture from the nation's longest-running agribusiness television program. Trading Coffee Options
http://www.options-trading-education.com/24192/trading-coffee-options/ Keywords: trading coffee options, futures options, commodity futures Trading Coffee Options By www.Options-Trading-Education.com The second most highly traded commodity in the world next to crude oil is coffee. Trading coffee options can be profitable but requires a unique skill set. Investopedia writes about the perks of trading coffee options. “Soft commodities,” which include cotton, cocoa, coffee, and sugar, are appearing in portfolios as an alternate class of trading assets. Though many other agricultural produce like orange juice, sugar, and cotton enjoy the benefit of subsidies at the regional, national, and international levels, facilitating their trade, coffee production and export do not enjoy the same number of subsidizations for international trade. So while it is the world’s favorite drink, coffee is challenging to trade and price. Coffee futures have been in existence since 1882 on the New York Cocoa Exchange. The present day center for futures and options trading for coffee contracts is the ICE Futures US exchange. While other popular options (that have stocks or indices as the underlying) allow the option buyer to (theoretically) purchase the underlying stock, coffee options have coffee futures as their underlying. Exercising an in-the-money (ITM) coffee call/put option leads the buyer to a long/short coffee futures contract, which he can then square off at market price or rollover as desired. Coffee prices are driven by supply and demand. The drought in Brazil drove prices up as Brazil produces forty percent of the Arabica coffee in the world. Trading coffee options often has to do with being a Central and South American weather forecaster. Drought in Brazil Brazil has been experiencing a devastating drought. It has not been this dry in the largest country in South America for nearly 100 years. National Geographic provides insight. In São Paulo, Brazil, which is suffering its worst drought in almost a century, Maria de Fátima dos Santos has lived for days at a time with no water, relying on what she had carefully hoarded in bottles. But in the Bolivian Amazon, about 1,800 miles (2,897 kilometers) away, Nicolás Cartagena recalls the day almost a year ago when floodwaters rose to the thatched rooftops of Indian communities, destroying crops and washing away homes. The drought in South America's biggest city and the flooding in the Amazon are being triggered by the same wind-driven weather phenomenon that scientists say is probably a harbinger for more extreme water shortages and flooding across the continent. No one fully understands this boom-and-bust cycle, but meteorologist José Marengo says it has been triggered by a sprawling high-pressure system that settled stubbornly over southeastern Brazil. That region is usually at the end of a long loop of moisture-bearing trade winds. Last year, however, this system went awry. The same weather that has endangered livelihoods and lives in Sao Paulo reduced the coffee crop in Brazil last year by about ten million bags (154 pounds each) driving up prices. When trading coffee options on coffee futures one can look ahead a few months or a year. As the weather cycles back around and the coffee crop returns to normal those who purchase calls in trading coffee options may prosper. Options on Futures Contracts The Options Guide explains how futures options work. A futures option, or option on futures, is an option contract in which the underlying is a single futures contract. The buyer of a futures option contract has the right (but not the obligation) to assume a particular futures position at a specified price (the strike price) any time before the option expires. The futures option seller must assume the opposite futures position when the buyer exercises this right. Trading coffee options is really trading options on coffee futures. Now that prices are high due to the drought in Brazil one might expect to see lower prices in the future when the rains return. Those who expect this to happen will probably buy puts on coffee futures to benefit from a fall in prices and those who expect things to get worse will probably buy calls. http://youtu.be/hIyRSQkxH5M

The pros and cons of trading futures
The pros and cons of trading futures is the topic of conversation on this video today. Trading futures is what I specialise in and started learning when I was just 18 years old. I, now do believe that futures is one of the best markets to trade. However, I don’t wish to paint a picture of unicorns and rainbows. People do need understand that the as with any market there are both good and bad things that can happen, so let’s get started. One of the first pros of trading futures I find is that you can get started very easily with very low barriers of entry. You can start an account with just $1000 which is much lower than other marketplaces. There is also a lot less manipulation in the markets, comparted to places like the Forex market. That doesn’t mean to say there is not any manipulation, but it is a lot more of a level playing field. This is great for beginners as it allows you trade in a regulated market, meaning you have less chance of being stung due to unfair conduct. The E-mini S&P 500 is the highest traded market by professional retail traders. Retail traders are people like you and me, sitting at home trading in front of our computers. Now, moving on to the cons in our pros and cons of trading futures discussion. With trading futures, it is a little easier to make more money, however with that in mind it means you are able to lose just as much money. Because the leverage is a lot higher, it is a bit riskier if you don’t know what you are doing. There are ways to make sure you are on top of your game, using stop losses, high probability strategies to make sure your winners are bigger than your losers. These are some quick points on the pros and cons of trading futures, there aren’t a lot of cons as it is easy to get started and it has a more level playing field. However, you need to make sure you have a good strategy and be on top of your game to make sure you don’t get stung in this large market. Word of the Day: Commodity Exchange Act (CEA)
As Jon Corzine gets grilled on Capitol Hill for MF Global's collapse and the missing possibly $1.2 billion in client money, we break down Commodity Exchange Act, because in it are the rules that said if MF Global used customer cash, it was breaking the law. The CEA is a federal act passed in 1936 by the U.S. Government (replacing the Grain Futures Act of 1922). The Act provides federal regulation of all commodities and futures trading activities and requires all futures and commodity options to be traded on organized exchanges. In 1974, the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) was created as a result of the Commodity Exchange Act, and in 1982 the National Futures Association (NFA) was created by CFTC.

Volatile Commodities Trading
http://profitabletradingtips.com/trading-investing/volatile-commodities-trading Volatile Commodities Trading By www.ProfitableTradingTips.com Today's volatile commodities trading can lead to profits if traders follow fundamentals and trade with trading cues such as Candlestick analysis signals. Gold futures were going up and now they are going down. Industrial commodities are in retreat as global recession threatens again. The dollar is strengthening as Forex investors seek safe haven in the US dollar which in turn makes every dollar denominated commodity cheaper. Stocks have fallen as well as traders concern themselves with the prospect of Europe not really fixing its debt dilemma and leading the world back into negative growth. Amid all of this mess traders will do well to remind themselves that volatile commodities trading can be profitable commodity trading. The value of trading commodities, stocks, options, futures, and foreign currencies as opposed to long term buy and hold investing is that there is profit to be made when equities go down as well as when they go up in price. Reading the Signs As the world anticipates another dip to the recession stock prices are down, the US Dollar is rising, and volatile commodities trading is trending to the down side. How in commodities trading can one profit in this environment? Is it time to sit on the sidelines, trade commodity futures options, only sell commodities? All might be possibilities but the most important part of trading commodities in today's environment is to have a clear view of market sentiment. Using Candlestick charts, traders have successfully traded commodities going back centuries to when there were Samurai in Japan. Rice traders recognized price patterns and learned that they could buy or sell rice based upon recognizable Candlestick patterns. Today traders buy commodities futures or sell commodities futures based upon the same Candlestick pattern formations that traders have long used. Gold and silver futures are trading more like commodities these days than like safe havens for wealth. Both precious metals hit their highest levels a couple of years ago and have steadily fallen as the dollar has strengthened. The driving force behind the rise of these metals, especially gold, has been the belief that the dollar and Euro were headed for the abyss. As the dollar strengthened many traders have moved in, assessed the markets with the technical analysis insight provided by Candlestick charting and profited by selling gold or silver futures or selling short on gold exchange traded funds. Although volatile markets can be chaotic they can also be profitable. Successful traders can approach volatile commodities trading very objectively with statistically based Candlestick charting techniques. Volatile Oil Prices, or Not? As oil futures fall traders concern themselves with the unrest in the Middle East and the Ukraine as well as a stronger dollar. Fundamentals are always discounted by the market but in times of volatile commodities trading traders must rely more strongly on the unbiased assessment provided by Japanese Candlestick charting in successfully anticipating commodity price changes. Candlesticks help traders see new market trends early and anticipate market reversal before being caught in a market correction. As in the days of ancient Japan when rice traders profited by following Candlestick signals traders of today can use advanced technical trading to avoid being caught up in market psychology and objectively trade during periods of volatile commodities trading. http://youtu.be/zMFnRvzSgFc

What is an ETF? | Definition of ETF (Exchange Traded Funds) | Introduction to ETFs
What is an ETF? Well, it’s a mutual fund too. It’s a pooled investment vehicle that offers diversified exposure to a particular area of the market. It can invest in stocks, bonds, commodities, currencies, options or a blend of assets. Investors buy shares, which represent a proportional interest in the pooled assets. It’s a mutual fund in every aspect … except one. And that’s a big one, which is hinted at in its very name: exchange-traded funds.
