UW Master of Aerospace Engineering
The University of Washington’s Master of Aerospace Engineering is a multidisciplinary professional graduate degree for recent graduates as well as working professionals. The MAE emphasizes the applied skills and experience needed in industry and is completed part-time in three years. Learn more at http://www.aa.washington.edu/admissions/mae.html Video Transcript: [Anthony] The University of Washington is situated in the heart of the largest density of aerospace industries, of course dominated by Boeing, but then there are so many other industries here. SpaceX is coming to town. Blue Origin, Andrews Space, Aerojet, just to name a few. Recently we started this master's in aerospace engineering, which is catered to people who work in industry. [Ed] So this program is our professional program. It's at the graduate level, but it's about preparing people to understand the advanced research and apply it, rather than a research program, which is about teaching you to do the original research. [Kaleigh] So the program is three years. There are some people that do the one year option, and they take off time off from work and they do it one year, but most of us are doing in three years. [Anthony] Our classes are offered in the evenings, usually. The timing is chosen so that it allows people who may want to travel to campus to travel as well. [Ed] You can come to class in person, which is certainly something we encourage. A lot of people enjoy it, but you can't always do it. You might be sent on a trip for business. You don't have to fall behind. You can log in, and you can watch the lecture live as a webcast, or if you're in a different time zone, or if your shift doesn't accommodate, you can watch the archive. [Kaleigh] Also, I'm a visual learner so I have to watch things a couple of times. So I’ll go to a lecture and stay here at UW, but also I’ll go home and re-watch the lecture. [Anthony] The curriculum has been a very traditional aerospace curriculum. [Ed] You can choose a specialty in the area of controls; structures, meaning sort of metallic structures; composite structures; or fluids, which also includes propulsion. And so students will choose their specialty. They'll take five classes in their area of specialty, plus three classes outside their area of specialty. [Kaleigh] All the knowledge that I'm getting in my area of interest, control engineering, I mean that, that's great. That will help me go on to do what I want to do. Maybe work on, you know, aerial vehicles, autonomous aerial vehicles or drones or submarines. [Ed] One of the key things, I think, to emphasize about this program is that it is a fully fledged part of our graduate program. Our faculty teach these classes. In some cases we might bring in an expert from industry to teach a class on aircraft noise, for example, but that person's going to be working with a senior member of our faculty. [Kaleigh] The professors here at UW have been great. I've been really pleased with the program so far and how they have interacted with us. [Anthony] If you have a master's from the University of Washington aero department you’re well prepared to enter industry and also have a very, very good career. [Kaleigh] Having an advanced degree has a lot of benefits for us as engineers. It can lead to promotions. It can lead to better job growth. You could become a lead engineer faster. [Ed] We're, you know, a leader in the field not just regionally, not nationally, internationally. We're attracting students from all around the world. We're attracting faculty from all around the world. People want come here and work, partially because we have connections to, you know, the long history of aerospace in Seattle. But also because we have connections to the future of aerospace, the places that we're going, the new frontiers.

UW Master of Science in Civil Engineering
The nationally ranked University of Washington Master of Science in Civil Engineering is a non-thesis program for those who wish to gain advanced training in one of six specialty areas of civil and environmental engineering. In this video, faculty and alumni discuss how the program can help you take your career to the next level. Learn more at http://www.ce.washington.edu/prospective/grads/masters.html. Video Transcript: [Pedro] Civil engineering is a very broad field that in general terms addresses the infrastructure and all the environment where we put this infrastructure. Because of this, this broad characteristic, we have six different fields of expertise: structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology and hydrodynamics, and then transportation and construction. [Carmen] Getting a master's degree was definitely beneficial to me because I felt that during my undergrad I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted to in transportation, which was my field of interest. [Jennifer] For me it put – especially in the construction engineering and management program – it put a lot of theory into action. It also gives you a leg up on those that just have a bachelor’s degree. [Pedro] Many companies at the moment of hiring, they ask or they request that the students have a master's degree. [Greg] Generally we set the program up so that you can do it in four quarters, and exactly how long that takes calendar depends on the student and what their, kind of, flexibility is. It's very, very common for people to do that in 12 months, so a calendar year. [Jennifer] The program for me was very flexible so that I could take roughly at one class a quarter and was able to fit it in with my work as well as have the support of the adviser during that whole process. [Pedro] Currently we are in the top 20 undergraduate and graduate programs in the country. What makes this reputation is not only the quality of our students, but in particular the quality of our faculty that has been very good in the past and is excellent today. [Carmen] I really liked the instruction that we had in the program. We had pretty small class sizes, probably like 15 to 20 people. So it was a really close-knit group of students, and we actually took a lot of the same classes together anyways. And being in this room with a bunch of smart people from across the nation, and there were some international students as well. [Greg] We also have very good ties to local industries and things like that, and agencies, so people will definitely have opportunities to not just sit in a classroom basically and have that be their only exposure to the discipline. [Pedro] Seattle is growing, and business and industry is booming. We have large companies like Boeing, Microsoft, Amazon that require infrastructure. [Greg] We're actually a hotbed, if you will, of civil engineering. And so again, when you're here there's a program, but you're also in this environment where there’s just lots of interesting things going on. [Pedro] I think this is a great time, not only to pursue civil engineering, because our population is growing to levels that we haven't seen before. The need for a new infrastructure is incredible, and on top of that, the current developments in terms of what we can do today is at a level that has not been seen before, making it a very exciting moment for civil engineering.

Why the University of Washington Global Executive MBA program
There are many excellent MBA programs in the United States – so, why choose a Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) at the Foster School of Business? In this video, three GEMBA students explain what drew them to Seattle, the University of Washington, and this particular MBA program. Suyeon Kim (Korea) chose GEMBA because of the excellent faculty, and GEMBAs location in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. As Suyeon says, Seattle is a city where you are surrounded by creativity and innovation, from well-known tech titans to smaller, more progressive startup companies. Senthil Prabhu Palaniswamy (India) chose GEMBA because of the 1 year, full-time schedule, which is a schedule beneficial to mid-career professionals, so they may return to the workforce sooner. Senthil Prabhu was also particularly drawn to the curriculum’s emphasis on leadership. Finally, UW and Foster School’s excellent reputation all over the world was an important factor in his decision to study with GEMBA. Takashi Goto (Japan) chose GEMBA because of the limited time commitment involved in obtaining the degree, which, as he says, is important when you can only be away from your company for a short time. Takashi also enjoyed GEMBA’s small class size, which enables students to participate more in class, receive more individual attention from staff and faculty, and develop closer relationships with classmates. Finally, Takashi chose GEMBA because of its location in Seattle, which is a great place to raise a family.

University of Washington
Just touring around U of W. The University of Washington, founded in 1861, is a public research university in Seattle, Washington, United States. Also known as Washington and locally as The U or UW (usually pronounced "U-Dub"), it is the largest university in the northwestern United States and the oldest public university on the west coast. The UW maintains three locations, with its flagship campus in Seattle's University District and branch campuses in Tacoma and Bothell. Its operating budget for fiscal year 2005 was $3.1 billion.[3] The university is known as a Public Ivy, an American term for state-funded institutions of higher learning that "provide an Ivy League collegiate experience at a public school price." Many of the UW's programs are ranked in the top ten by U.S. News and World Report including #1 rankings for both the UW School of Medicine (primary care) and nursing school.[20] UW's rank for medical research has recently moved up from seventh in 2007 (along with Stanford) to sixth in 2008.[21] UW Medicine received $573.2 million in grants from National Institutes of Health in the fiscal year of 2006, second highest among all universities in the US. By 2006, UW School of Medicine has overall been ranked #1 for 14 consecutive years by U.S. News. UW is also the only medical school in the nation that ranked in the top 10 for all eight specialties.[22] The UW School of Nursing has been ranked #1 in the nation since 1984, when the first survey of nursing schools was conducted. However, U.S News & World Report only began ranking nursing schools in 1993, ever since which UW has also always been #1.[23] In addition, its graduate program in social work is ranked third by U.S. News and World Report along with Columbia University, the University of Chicago and the University of California-Berkeley.[24] The UW also boasts third ranked graduate programs in both audiology and speech-language pathology,[25][26] and a third ranked specialist program in the fine art of ceramics.[27] The School of Public Health and Community Medicine is as well ranked third by US News.[28] The UW's bioengineering department was ranked fourth and the computer science program ranked 7th. The specialist field of nuclear physics also ranked 2nd in the country.[29] The graduate school of education was also ranked 8th in the nation.[30] while the school of engineering tied for 21st alongside Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and Northwestern University[31] in the U.S. News and World Report rankings. The undergraduate and graduate business schools ranked 18th and 29th, respectively. The UW School of Law has consistently ranked 27th out of a field of 180 American Bar Association accredited law schools. The UW also holds a #1 specialist ranking for its graduate program in law librarianship[32] In the 2008 rankings of "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News and World Report, the UW tied for 42nd among doctoral universities and tied for 11th among public doctoral universities. History: The city of Seattle was one of several settlements in the mid to late 19th century vying for primacy in the newly formed Washington Territory. In 1854, territorial governor Isaac Stevens recommended the establishment of a university in Washington. Several prominent Seattle-area residents, chief among them Methodist preacher Daniel Bagley, saw the siting of this University as a chance to add to the city's prestige. They were able to convince early founder of Seattle and member of the territorial legislature Arthur A. Denny of the importance of Seattle winning the school. The legislature initially chartered two universities, one in Seattle and one in Lewis County, but later repealed its decision in favor of a single university in Lewis County, provided locally donated land could be found. When no site emerged, the legislature, encouraged by Denny, relocated the university to Seattle in 1858.
